Will you be at our holiday dinner party on Dec. 8? Expect fun! Registration is open on DACdb for the club's annual holiday party the evening of Dec. 8 at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club. (There will be no noon meeting that day.) The dinner cost is $62 per person, and there are four meal options to choose from during the registration process. Social time with hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar will be begin at 5:30, and dinner will be served at 7. It's optional, but you might want to participate in the lively White Elephant gift exchange. Ask Steve Kelle what he ended up taking home last year. Could it make a surprise return this year?

John Bodenburg, a Lakewood Ranch Rotarian since April 2017, is serving this year as our club's Rotary Foundation Chair. John wants to start spreading good information about how the Foundation works and its relationship to District 6960 and our club. Look for monthly TRF updates here from John.

KNOW YOUR FOUNDATION When you receive your first Paul Harris pin, we give you a certificate showing that you are a Paul Harris Fellow. Every time you donate an additional $1,000, you receive the next level Paul Harris pin. The second donation can be over any length of time. If, however, you are donating $1,000 each year to The Rotary Foundation, you should consider joining the Paul Harris Society. This means that you agree to donate $1,000 to the Foundation each year. For agreeing to do that, and be a member of the Paul Harris Society, you are recognized with a blue and gold chevron that attaches to your Paul Harris pin. The benefit to the Foundation is they can now count on your kind donation each year. The picture at right shows a Paul Harris +3 pin with the Paul Harris Society Chevron.

Our club is on top of the leaderboard Rotary District 6960 is in the middle of the Annual Fund contest, which began July 1 and ends Dec. 31. Take a look at which club is currently first in the standings! We are proud of our generous members. Money sent to the Annual Fund fuels our local District grant program, with 47.5 cents of every dollar given to the fund returning to our District in three years. That money is called District Designated Funds (DDF) and is used to support grant projects. The top six clubs will each earn $1,000 toward a District grant to be completed in the second half of this Rotary year.

Club Foundation Chairman John Bodenburg, right, presented three Paul Harris Fellow Awards at the Nov. 17 meeting. President Carmen Spagnola, left, also poses with Patty Ivey, Dr. Al Taricco and Chuck Glazer. Thank you all for your continued generous support of The Rotary Foundation!

President Carmen Spagnola inducted Steve Gottlieb into our club on Nov. 17. Steve, above left, was sponsored by his friend, Frank Harris, right, who will also be Steve's mentor. Steve's classification is Retired Medical Supplies; he was a Rotarian for 18 years in New York. Steve and his wife, Sue, live in Sarasota. Welcome!

VOLUNTEER TO HELP RENOVATE HOMES TO GIVE TO DESERVING VETERANS Our Next Mission completed all of the hurricane repairs in the past couple of weeks for units ONM has renovated over the past few years. The leadership team met earlier with the CEO of Habitat for Humanity, which is getting two or three homes returned to them. One needs extensive repairs, but the other two need painting, cleaning, flooring and some cabinetry work. The estimated time frame is 30 to 45 days on these. ONM offered to help. The owner gave ONM a home on Lot 63 in Pescara Lakes, 570 57th Ave. W., Bradenton, where ONM has worked the past few years. The home suffered some hurricane damage, but has "solid bones" and will become a veteran's new home. Rotarians Terry Byce and Russ Sexton helped out last week. Volunteers have replaced the flooring. Starting Nov. 28, painting begins on interior ceiling and walls. On Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, we will finish framing the bathroom and begin installing doors and the air conditioning.

If you would enjoy working on the projects and engaging in fellowship, please join us. Every skill level is needed and appreciated! If you would like to participate in these efforts – onsite work or ramp installation – contact Lakewood Ranch Rotarian Terry Byce (terry.byce@verizon.net or 703627-7765) or Greg Kisella (text 850-585-1698 or gkiselaonm@gmail.com). Bob Feller, who spoke to our club in June, is still actively involved. To learn more about ONM, visit the website by clicking here.

The Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch will again be collecting wrapped shoeboxes to donate to Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee to distribute to seniors in our community. We will collect boxes until Dec. 15, either at our Holiday Party on Dec 8 or our luncheon meeting on Dec 15. Please review instructions below and on the next page. – Sybil Porter
