Next year's Rotary theme unveiled

The new 2023-24 Rotary Theme has been announced and we couldn't be more excited The theme is "Create Hope in the World" and, as Rotarians, we do that every single day

Rotary International President-Elect R. Gordon R. McInally, a member of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry, West Lothian, Scotland, revealed his presidential theme during the Rotary International Assembly in Orlando on Jan 9

His top initiative will be prioritizing mental health, building peace through virtual exchanges, and empowering girls

Be the change for someone today Be their hope!

For the complete story (and to see a video of his announcement), go to Rotary International’s website by clicking here

Club Foundation Chairman John Bodenburg presented Paul Harris Fellow Awards to four club members who continue to donate to The Rotary Foundation. Thank you for supporting our club and TRF.

Attend a club social: Watch the sunset from Siesta Key Beach

You won't want to miss one of our club's fun annual traditions, a social gathering on Siesta Key

Member Karin McLoughlin and her husband, Hermann Boettcher, and member Paul Hoenle and his wife, Ursula Heitmann, are inviting all members of our club and their guests to the event at 4 p m Jan 28 at Karin's home, 25 Sandy Hook Road, Siesta Key

Everyone should bring either a main dish, dessert, salad or something else Wine, beer and water will be provided. They also will have enough chairs and blankets to seat 50 people. Karin advises organizing carpools to help with parking.

There is no charge to attend, but the hosts ask that you register on DACdb so they can get an accurate count of guests attending. Click here for the link to register. For questions, email Lang Wooddy, the club's Social Committee chairman, at lang66@comcast.net.

Are you familiar with our club's Small Group Meals Program?

Our club offers an ongoing way to get to know other Rotarians in a meaningful way and include spouses or partners so they can also appreciate the value of being involved in Rotary. A sign-up sheet to be a host, guest or both will be distributed at our club meetings. As a host, you decide how many guests (four to six is common) for any type of meal that fits your entertaining style. Suggested guidelines for a Small Group Meal and a guest invitation template will be sent to all hosts. As a guest, you give the host $25 per person or a check made out to the Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch. This money goes into our club’s discretionary fund. If you have questions please contact Dorothy Bodenburg, Small Group Meals coordinator, at 941-714-0971 or Dorothy@Bodenburg.com

VOLUNTEER TO HELP RENOVATE HOMES TO GIVE TO DESERVING VETERANS

The interior of Unit 63, Our Next Mission's current project at Pescara Lakes in Bradenton, is 99% complete It's been a tremendous job by everyone Rotarians Terry Byce, Dan Conway and Russ Sexton worked several days this past week

Our master exterior vinyl expert under the supervision of his wife framed the unit with corner pieces, starter strips and window frames Now it is ready to be wrapped with the big (and easy) pieces of vinyl Don't miss out on an opportunity to help Our Next Mission finish this project

Two veterans have made applications for this unit They both need housing Help us help them

We are working Monday, Tuesday and Thursday the week of Jan 16 at Pescara Lake, 570 57th Ave W , Bradenton

We need help identifying prospective veterans for the refurbished homes A candidate is an “at-risk” veteran – over 55, honorable discharge, possibly disabled, struggling to find a home, low-income limited family support – who has at least an annual income of $25K-$35K per year with a good credit score The homes are gifted to the veterans by ONM The management company does a credit review and

background check for the lease and ONM verifies their veterans status Unit 63 will be finished by Feb 1 and ready for an occupant We also have a unit in Colony Cove in Ellenton that could be ready as early as March 1 and we have a third unit near Pescara Lakes west of U S 41

Check with your friends, neighbors and work associates to see if anyone meets the criteria If you have a candidate, let me know and ONM will interview him or her

Thanks (and looking forward to seeing you at the work site),
