1982 Needle-throwing on the campsite This year we have Dream City – back in 1982 they had The Alternative City – a city where you could make your own pottery, throw ‘bombs’ at Reagan and last but not least throw hypodermic needles at a dart board in a classical 80s anti-drugs campaign.

Cobain, and the fight above all fights 1992 was a good year for Danish football and also a good year for grunge. At Roskilde Festival there were plenty of both in 1992. The headliner was Nirvana but Kurt had to share the attention with Flemming Poulsen, John Faxe and Peter Schmeichel. This prompted Kurt Cobain to say ”congratulations on the sport competition you just won” during Nirvana’s concert at Orange Stage. Somewhat annoyed according to legend. Cheers! If you wanted to know more about the programme back in 1992, you could call a 24-hour phone service for 9.95 DKK a minute. 757.000 beers were sold that year, which was the record hitherto.

ROSKILDE RETRO

Tam-tams well played In 1982 on Friday night at half past eight U2 took over Orange Stage overlooking the largest ever audience of the festival at the time. When ‘Get off my ground’ issued from the loudspeakers Bono jumped into a camera crane and hovered 15 meters above the crowd. In the Roskilde Festival newspaper it was noted in the review that this brand new Irish band was ‘sparkling and energetic’. The drummer was distinguished for ‘playing the tam-tams well’ and the guitar player The Edge was praised for his ‘impressive melodious guitar playing’.
