Lanesboro Street, Roscommon Treasured memories of Margaret, beloved mother and friend Who died on 31st July 2006 R.I.P (9th Anniversary) Also in memory of her late husband Martin
The Lord saw you getting tired And a cure was not to be, So He put his arms around you And whispered “Come with me.” Your dearest friend, and our darling mum Had just earlier passed away, Each day we saw how much you missed her And when God called, you couldn’t stay. If tears could make a staircase And heartaches make a lane, We’d walk the path to Heaven And bring ye home again. A golden heart stopped beating, Your beautiful smile at rest. God broke our hearts again to prove He always takes the best. It’s lonesome here without you both, We miss you so each day. Our lives just aren’t the same Ever since ye went away. When days are sad and lonely And everything goes wrong, We hear you gently whisper, “Cheer up and carry on.” Each time we see your picture, You seem to smile and say, “Don’t cry, I’m here with your mum, We’ll all meet again someday.” Our family chain is broken And nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again. You dwell among the angels now And you deserve a well earned rest, You are forever in our thoughts, Dad, you were simply the best!
Lovingly remembered by his family – Micheal, Martina, Daniel & Rose, also by his dear brother-in-law, Thomas and his dear sisters-in-law, Elizabeth, Jeanette and Patricia; cousins, extended family, wonderful neighbours and friends. Dad’s First Anniversary Mass will be on Sunday, 26th July, 2015 in the Sacred Heart Church, Ballinagare at 11.00am.

Medical card must include full financial costs of cancer – Naughten The fact that cancer sufferers face an additional €10,000 in costs associated with the disease must be taken into consideration by the medical card section of the Health Service Executive, Independent TD Denis Naughten has said. He called for all adults diagnosed with cancer to be given medical cards. A study, led by the National Cancer Registry, has shown that three quarters of those with breast or lung cancer had direct out of pocket medical expenses averaging €1,491. The study also shows that 90 per cent of cancer sufferers had other cancer related costs of up to €7,559, with 60 per cent pointing out that other household bills also went up. At present, a person diagnosed with cancer must verify these expenses to have them considered as part of their medical card assessment, but in many cases these expenses only arise during the treatment itself. Deputy Naughten said: “Every time I have a person diagnosed with cancer contact me about a medical card, I sympathise with them about the battle which they then face, to secure a medical card. “For many diagnosed with cancer, they are of the belief that the HSE deliberately seeks additional information in the hope that the applicant is too sick to respond and will instead just throw in the towel. “What is frustrating is the fact that there seems to be a lack of understanding of just how sick someone can get when they are on treatment for cancer. Instead we have the medical card section seeking information which we are told is accessible to them via the Revenue Commissioners and Social Welfare. “In light of the significant step forward by Health Minister Leo Varadkar recently in giving all children with cancer a medical card, I’m asking him to now do the same for adults diagnosed with cancer. “If this is not possible in the short term, at a very minimum the Minister must ensure that the medical card section takes the additional costs of cancer, averaging at €10,000, into account when assessing someone for a medical card.”

Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice (right) has called on the Government to introduce emergency legislation to stop former taoisigh, ministers and top civil servants receiving their controversial pension increases. It emerged recently that, under the Lansdowne Road Agreement, prominent former politicians are to pocket significant top-ups. Former Taoiseach Brian Cowen’s pension will rise from €134,000 to €136,000 a year over the next three years, while Bertie Ahern, also an ex-Taoiseach, will receive a similar rise. Speaking in the Dáil during Leaders’ Questions last Thursday, Deputy Fitzmaurice voiced his strong opposition to the increases. He said: “People on low incomes are struggling to send their children to third-level college. We have problems with the health service and we have banks closing in on families who cannot pay their mortgages. “Yet we have ex-ministers and taoisigh who are €130,000 of a pension looking out the window and smiling at Ireland and now they are being offered a couple of grand extra per year of an increase. “It’s a disgrace what is going on.” Deputy Fitzmaurice engaged in a heated argument over the matter with Tánaiste Joan Burton, who suggested that the recipients refuse to accept the increases. Deputy Fitzmaurice dismissed this as “nonsense”. Calling for emergency legislation to scrap the increases, he said: “Will this Government legislate to stop this carry on and when will you bring legislation before the House?”
