Do You Need To Replace or Repair Your Windows?

Windows are undisputedly the most important feature of a building. They give the house an outlook, they keep the weather out, they keep intruders out and they let sunlight in. Due to the extensive 24 hours job they perform, windows are likely to need repair and maintenance at one time or another. The first thing to decide would be what kind of windows would best suit your purpose? For example, if you are ordering for a bank or some high security building, you’d probably go for one with tough frames and tougher glass. If you are designing a guest house or a tourist resort, your best option is to look for artistic eye catching window frames with colored glass. So basically, the purpose decides what you’ll be buying. Next is the window installation phase. Most people hire contractors for the job; however, it is always handy (not to mention easy on your wallet) to be a carpenter at home. Installing a window is not difficult. All you will need is the right measurements, your glass, your window frame, and a few tools available at any local hardware store. Windows require a lot of care. They are constantly fighting hot and cold weather. Sometimes, the weather or accidents may damage windows. The damage can either be to the frame or the glass. The most common type of window problem is about broken or cracked window glasses. Glass repair is actually pretty simple. Take your glass measurements to a hardware store and purchase just the right type and size of glass for your window frame. Get glazing pins and putty from the hardware store and fix the glass in. If the frame is damaged (usually wooden frames get rotten or metal frames get rusted), you can cut out the rotten portion with a saw, fill it in with wood putty and let it dry for 6 to 8 hours. Paint the frame anew to get a brand new look for your window. If your window is beyond repair and there is no chance of recovering it, window replacement is your only choice. Often, you do not need to replace the entire window. Simply replace the damaged parts by new items. Check with your window manufacturers for window replacement hardware. The best way to keep windows looking fresh and pleasant is by painting window frames once or twice a year. If the glass develops a crack, repair it without delay. Window glass cracks are known to grow at incredible rates. A smaller crack is easier to repair than a bigger one, which may require total glass replacement.
