Is Covid dying off or is it here to stay? Corona virus is nowadays a global matter. One way to go against it is with covid measures. We are here to tell you which are the covid measurements, how do they affect our children everyday activities at school and last but not least how to protect ourselves from covid.

By Sarah Neveu, Linelle dufner, Selina Smital, Ester Zivkovic ,Jules Callens, Markella Parousi, Marios Halili, Helen Drolia and Erika Campos, Alba Villalt and

Estefania Vera France When we have a positive case at a French school, he or she is confined for seven days. All people who have been in contact with him or her recently have to see if they are vaccinated and when they have a negative test they can go back to school. But when they are not vaccinated they are confined for seven day same as positve case. The contact case have to make a test at the day of the contact, two days after the contact and four days after the contact, and it’s very recommended to make a test in the seven days after the contact. At school we have to wear a mask all the day . At the canteen the students can pull out the mask but they have to respect a safety distance of 1 metre between them. Before and after every class we use hand sanitizer. Greece Most of the covid measures are the same as the ones in France. When we have a positive case, the person

who has covid must stay in quarantine for five days. (Extra info is that before Christmas we used to stay at home for ten days.) Also, all the people who had contacted with the person who has covid, have to test themslves for their safety. The vaccinated students are doing two or three self tests per week. Although the non vaccinated students have to do two rapid tests and three self tests so as to be accepted at class. Another thing is that we must wear masks even during breaks and keep windows open at class even if it is too cold. Germany Most of our Covid measures are very similar to yours. What we have to do in addition we need to test ourselves three times a week at school. When somebody is positive they need to quarantine. We also wear our masks during the whole schooltime even in sport lessons. In my 2

We have more or less got used to wearing masks class nearly half of them are in quarantine at the moment because the numbers here are quite high but not many of the cases have to go to hospital - Omikron seems to be milder. When we stay at home because we have a cold we need to bring a negative antigen self test the next day. When somebody is Covid positive they have to go in quarantine for ten days. All the people who had contact with this person also have to do a rapid test.

Team School Spain There are 6 principal measures that all Spanish citizen has to follow. Here are called the 6M because of their names in Spanish. The first is wearing a mask; in Spain is obligatory in closed areas, but is not on the street or in outside places. In schools is different, its obligatory to wear it all the time, the only moment you can put off your mask if you have to eat in the break

Free transport for students? Here we’ll discuss whether free transport for students is a good idea or not.

By Razvan, Olga, Jaylin, Luis and Rümeysa, 18.02.2022 Free transport is a great idea which should be a thing in as many countries as possible. There are many factors which can make it more difficult for this to become true. As for example, should everyone benefit from this? Under what circumstances? Where? We will discuss about all these topics in the following paragraphs. Situations countries

in

everyone lives far away to where they need to go. Free public transport is a great idea and possibly motivating for some to go to school and learn. The government should try their best and give us as many opportunities as they can, because we are the future of our countries. Rümeysa

different

Razvan In Germany the transport for students is already free, but only under certain circumstances. The most important one is that there should be a minimum distance between their home and school, around 2 kilometers. It makes sense, because why would someone take the bus if they live 10 minutes away on foot? I, for example, live 40 minutes away and have to take the train just like many other students. Our school discounts the entire price of the train tickets. I ,of course, agree with the idea of not paying to go to school, but it should also come with priviliges. Not everyone can afford to pay everyday in order to get to school and don't own a car either, but not

Another reason to make public transport free is that it is less harmful to the environment. If we use public transport when we are young, there is a high probability that we will use it when we are older. That means we do not have to drive everywhere. Here by we degrade our environment less. Jaylin and Luis

In Spain public transportation such as buses for students is usually free. But for example the train is only discounted by 40%, but I think that if someone is a student who lives far away from school or whose parents cannot take them from having to go to work, they should not have to pay to go to school and learn, especially if you go to a private school, which is usually 4

expensive. It would benefit everyone, and especially the parents who are financially struggling already, it would be great to know their child can go to school independently. Razvan In my opinion, transport should be free for everyone who lives far away and can't arrive on their own to school on time, regardless of their parents' income. Of course, someone has to pay for the transport costs.I have come with an idea, where people could wether agree or disagree: Free transport should be earned. By that I mean, why should children who are not respectful, do not behave in school and do not learn get free public transport? There are other students who really give their best and understand the true importance of eduaction for our lives. There should be a minimum average of the student's grades in order to move freely.

Team Debate Olga Here in Greece, students travel for free by using the bus, but that is not because we are provided free transport. In the town I live, there is no such thing as a conductor so everyone can easily go where they want without paying. However, in other suburbs of Athens which are more organized, there are conductors and people are not allowed to travel illegally.

In France , the school bus fare is really cheap, you just have to pay twenty euros a year to have a bus card valid for 1 year ( you can also use in the trams) If you lose this card you have to pay it back, when the controllers pass on the bus if you do not have your card you will be fined Monyca

Should cars be banned from all city centres an be replaced by public transport? Razvan I personally think that this question could be quite controversial for some. We could not just take away somebody's property and ban it, but instead we could motivate people to use public transport and make it be their

first choice. There will always be cases where we cannot take the bus or train at the exact time, or we want privacy. Or even go somewhere else where no bus is coming. Olga Concerning this question, I strongly believe that banning cars from city centers would bring a massive difference. Air pollution would be radically reduced and also the city would be more approachable for tourists. In Athens there is a rule which controls the traffic; in dates which are odd number only people whose last car sign number is odd can use some roads. The opposite happens in dates which are odd numbers (0,2,4,6,8) only the people whose car sign number is odd can use these streets. That doesn't really reduce the use of cars, but controls the traffic really well. For example, if the date is 14 february, only people whose car's sign last number is 0,2,4,6 or 8 can drive on these roads. If not they have to find alternatives. Sometimes, though, it is difficult for people to access the subway or the train which makes it almost impossible to travel to the center. These people may have no way of going to work so banning cars wouldn't be the safest option of improving the quality of our lives.

Aghanistan, Ukraine, China Lately, these three countries were mentioned in the news a lot. Here is some background information about what is going on. By Natalia Di Cesare, Arshia Khoshgah, Yasna Asadian, Ömer Polat, Zoe Zapounidi, Basile Lécuyer, Kamelya Lgach, Safa Charea, Fatimah Aladhami, Hamza Si Abdallah, - Andriani Manolakou 8.02.22 Talibans in Afghanistan Who are Talibans: The Taliban is the political-religious movement which governed Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001 and since 15 August till today. They took the lead after a civil war and then they occupied the 90% of the total landscapes. Their theocratic regime is blamed for their harsh enforcement of their interpretation of the Islamic Sharia law, which results in their brutal treatment of many Afghans and especially women. The Taliban and the United States began meeting in 2018, with the help of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and the United Arab Emirates, the only countries to have a diplomatic relationship with both parties. The discussions focused on the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, although the United States also sought to reconcile the Taliban and the central government. Discussions were eventually held with the central government in 2019, which led in July to an agreement on

general principles for future negotiations, but the Taliban’s representatives remained focused on first reaching a deal with the United States. They reportedly came to an agreement in principle in September, but discussions were disrupted after an attack by the Taliban killed a U.S. service member. A deal with the United States was signed in late February 2020. In exchange for a full withdrawal of U.S. troops over a 14-month period, the Taliban agreed to end its attacks on U.S. forces and prevent al-Qaeda, the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL; also called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria [ISIS]), and their affiliates from operating in Afghanistan. The deal also included an agreement to begin talks with the central government within 10 days, but negotiations were delayed until September because of the central government’s reluctance to carry out a prisoner swap promised to the Taliban by the 6

United States. Little progress was made during the negotiations, which lasted into 2021. Nevertheless, in April the United States reiterated its commitment to complete its withdrawal, although the deadline for withdrawal was delayed from May to September. As its confrontations with U.S. forces came to an end and the completion of the U.S. withdrawal drew near, an emboldened Taliban rapidly took control of dozens of districts in May–June and closed in on several provincial capitals. The group appeared to lack the manpower and firepower to hold its gains against the larger and betterequipped armed forces of the central government, but the latter’s lack of coordination and lack of responsiveness to

Team International the insurgency allowed the Taliban to overrun the country within months. By mid-August the central government had collapsed and the Taliban had captured nearly all of the country, including Kabul. With the Taliban seemingly eager to win legitimacy both domestically and internationally, many observers hoped to see a more pliant and conciliatory regime than the one the Taliban had run before. Early indications, however, showed little resolve for change: in September it filled its transitional government with hard-liners, reopened schools only for boys, and reinstituted brutal criminal punishments. Ukraine & Russia

Ukrainian leaders want to go into NATO/OTAN but Vladimir Poutine doesn't agree because if Ukraine goes into OTAN it will be protected. Some basic Recap on the matter: The ukranian russian conflict involves the regions of crimea and east Ukraine, the Donbass region. Russia annexed the crimean

peninsula in 2014 with the excuse of defending the majority russian population in crime and the establishment of a separatist state in eastern Ukraine. All of this took place while the Revolution of Dignity was taking place, in which the civillian population couped the - as they said - Russian alligned (controlled) Presidency. A more nationalist, Ukrainianspeaking population in western parts of the country has generally supported greater integration with Europe, while a mostly Russian-speaking community in the east has favored closer ties with Russia. Russia's interests in Ukraine: Russia has deep cultural, economic, and political bonds with Ukraine, and in many ways Ukraine is central to Russia’s identity and vision for itself in the world. But why was crimea annexed by Russia? The crimean peninsula was a economic powerhouse for ukraine at the time, but not only that. It serves as a strategic military base that can control all of the Black sea What motivated Russia's moves on Ukraine? Some Experts say, that it was a reaction against NATO's post Cold War enlargement, which Russia has viewed with increasing alarm. In 2004, 7

NATO added seven members, its fifth expansion and largest one to date, including the former Soviet Baltic republics Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Four years later, when NATO declared its intent to bring Ukraine and Georgia into the fold at some point in the future, Russia made clear a redline had been crossed. Followed by this we return to the present day. Present Day: Russia is building up his military presence in Belarus, Crimea and within range of the borders to East Ukraine. Deploying nearly 80% of his western Brigades. Russia hopes to detere Ukraine from joining NATO and a bid to remove all NATO Troops from Eastern Europe. It is an indirect ultimatum against the USA. Russia also denies any allegetions on provocating Ukraine, and the nature of it's troops deployments near the border, it also denies any allegations of invading Eastern Ukraine. Vladimir Poutine attacked the east of Ukraine with missiles. Now V. Poutine attack Kiev and aim civils places. The population is terrorised by V. Poutine. The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, commended people between 18 and 60 years to protect their country.

Olympic Games in China

Like the Tokyo Olympics last year covid-19 has given these games a different complexion they are taking a place inside a closed loop system keeping competitors and staff away from the general public athletes must get tested for covid-19 daily and there are no foreign fans with only a small hand picked domestic audience allowed to attend , some of the worlds best winter athletes are unable to compete after testing positive .

For the first time this year, 2022, the Winter Olympic Games in China, Beijing are happening. They are the first Olympic Games ever that are very environmentally friendly, as they use 100% renewable electricity. Beijing became the first country to have hosted both the Winter and Summer Olympics. Most of the sports are on the snow, like ice skating, skiing, snowboarding and ice hockey. Because of snow needing, to make these sports happen, they are the first games to use 100% artificial snow too. This has helped them as the machines can make enough snow for all the sports that is needed. In general, Chinese are pioneers as they use new ways to make their games happen!

Can we be glad that the world's best athletes are gathering to show their incredible skills on snow and ice? What if we know that, to do that, those athletes have to go to an authoritarian country where, while they're skating 8

Football There are a number of references to traditional, ancient, or prehistoric ball games played in many different parts of the world. Football started at English public schools during the 19th century. The expansion and cultural influence of the British Empire allowed these rules of football to spread to areas outside of the controlled Empire. In 1888, The Football League started in England, becoming the first of many professional football associations. During the 20th century, various kinds of football grew to become some of the most popular games in the world.

The Mirror Of Our Countries Day after day our countries continue to surprise us with everything that happens. Here, you can read the news that have startled the residents the most. by Helen Stasinopoulou, Oliver Aguilera, Kasiani Kouretsi, Evaggelia Thodou, Verena Jost, Lily Gangi 22.02.22 The students of four countries have worked together and combined their knowledge on what has happened recently in their countries to make everyone aware of the latest local news. Volcanic eruptions, snowing, child abuse in churches and... have unsettled everyone living in these four countries. The time has come to address those incidents and make the truth known. Spain: The volcano of La Palma The last subaerial eruption in Spain, was located in La Palma too, was the 1971 Teneguía eruption, which killed a nearby photographer with its fumes. The eruption caused some property damage to roads, crops, and homes. The last eruption in the Canaries was the 2011-2012

eruption of El Herro, submarine volcano.

a

The current eruption started at 14:13 local time on 19 September 2021 in an area called "Cabeza de Vaca", of Montaña Rajada. Around 300 people from the local area were evacuated shortly after the eruption, and then a further 700 people (including 500 tourists) were evacuated from the Los Llanos de Aridane coastal region in case the lava flowed to the sea and cut off the main access roads. The alert level was raised to its highest level due to the eruption. On the fourth day, according to the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands, the volcano entered a more explosive phase, expelling less volcanic gas. The first two months, the eruption was assigned a rating on the Volcanic Explosivity 10

Index (VEI) of VEI 2 (on a scale of 8). On 20 November 2021, then, it raised from VEI 2 to VEI 3. Though in modern eruptions where it can be measured, eruption column height is often seen as a more accurate measure, in this case the change was based on the 10 million cubic metres of ejected material measure alone. The VEI rating was increased despite no change in the eruptive mechanism or explosiveness.

Greece dresses in white After so much time of desiring snow and not getting it, the last couple of years the Greeks finally got what they wished for all along. Kids and adults got to go out and play and have fun with this beautiful white gift that we got from nature.

Team Local However, this year nature gave us a little more than what we hoped for. In January 2022, the bad weather showed its teeth and claws to every citizen. All of us had to circulate with protective chains on the tires of our vehicles. We weren’t able to withstand the cold, with a temperature under 0°C. Schools and workplaces closed down and online lessons as well as online work took place. People in their cars had to interrupt their route in order to go back and get some protective chains for their tires, because it wasn’t safe without them. Lots and lots of people had to stay inside their cars for so many hours on the road without moving, because the snow had taken over the entire highway and driving was impossible. But it wasn’t only staying inside the car for some people. A woman went to labor right there in the car and a man had a heart attack while being trapped on the road. All the stranded people were of course compensated. This experience has been a roller coaster of joy and horror for everyone involved and it is going to stay in their minds for a very, very long time.

Germany: Church criticized

Catholic

In Germany Many people are leaving the Roman Catholic Church because there has been a report about child abuse in the past decades by an independent group of investigators and even the retired Pope Benedict was criticized because apparently he didn't do enough to prevent this in his time as our bishop here in Munich. Many people have left the Church already and a lot of them have lost the faith in the institution because they don`t want to be in a Church where such things happen. Our local Church has sent letters to all Christians in our village. The is a strong call throughot Germany for a reformation of the Catholic Church. Some want to let priests get married, others want the Church to be more open to homosexual relationships and many want to have equal rights for women.

The change to sustainability Using wind power for sustainable energy and fighting against water pollution are two important steps for the ecological change By Gerhard, Areti, Lilia and Sophia - 18.02.2022 Slowly but surely it becomes clear for everyone: We will have to change to a sustainable way of life. Two topics that are discussed a lot at the moment are wind power and water pollution Controversy about wind power In Bavaria there is a big discussion about wind power because the law says the distance between a house and a windmill should have 10 times the height of the windmills. Politicians in Berlin want to modify this regional law so that the distance can be less and that mor windmills can be built in our region. Today there are 1138 Windmills in Bavaria. And this number is supposed to increase with the new law. Most windmills in Germany can be found in the north of Germany because there are the North Sea and the Baltic Sea with more wind than in the South of the country. How does a wind turbine work?

the propeller-like blades of a turbine around a rotor, which spins a generator, which creates electricity. Pros and cons of wind power Although wind power is really beneficial, it also has multiple drawbacks. Let's start with the pros. Firstly, this kind of energy is renewable and a clean source of energy. For example, lots of fossil fuels could be saved by using wind power. Secondly, its operation cost is very low. Lastly, wind power is a job creator. Imagine thousands of vacancies being offered to thousands of people. Now, the cons. First of all, lots of trees need to be cut off because turbines need a lot of space. Secondly, they are very noisy and cause noise pollution and disturb people from their job. Also, they create visual pollution because they "destroy" the landscape. This is not aesthetically pleasant. Furthermore, they is a threat to wildlife. Lastly, we must point out that the flow of the wind is unpredictable, so we cannot rely on it.

Instead of using electricity to make wind, like a fan, wind turbines use wind in order to produce electricity. Wind turns 12

Fighting water pollution Water pollution occurs when harmful substances contaminate a body of water, degrading water quality and rendering it toxic to humans or the environment. Causes: The main causes are: spills or leaks from oil and chemical containers. Trade effluent going into surface water drains instead of foul water drains, or straight into watercourses. Removing too much water from surface waters and groundwater. Effects: Some of the effects are : breathing ozone and particle pollution can lead to increased asthma attacks, which can result in visits to the

Team Eco emergency rooms and hospital admissions, not to mention missed work and school. Cardiovascular disease: Air pollution can increase the risk of both heart attacks and stroke. Consequences: Some of the many consequences are : Exposure to high levels of air pollution can cause a variety of adverse health outcomes. It increases the risk of respiratory infections, heart disease and lung cancer. Both short and long term exposure to air pollutants have been associated with health impacts. More severe impacts affect people who are already ill. Solutions: Use the minimum amount of detergent and/or bleach when you are washing clothes or dishes. Use only phosphate free soaps and detergents. Minimize the use of pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers. Do not dispose of these chemicals, motor oil, or other automotive fluids into the sanitary sewer or storm sewer systems.

One of the most famous is called ''We Were Liars''. The plot is about a girl that comes from a wealthy family and every summer she spends her holidays on her family's private island with her cousins. Although when she turns 15, she gets into an accident that creates memory gaps. The book narrates the girl's way to pick up the pieces of her life before the accident.

Book review: “They both die at the end” I heard about the book "We were Liars" and it sounds really interesting, unfortunately I haven´t read it yet. But it´s on my list. The last book which I read was "They both die at the end". As the title says it´s about two boys who know that they are going to die. The deathcast calls them and tells them they´are going to die within the next 24 hours. It´s a beautiful book which has all emotions mixed together. Although it´s very sad, if you think about it, it shows a lovely friendship between the main characters. And it also has funny parts which are heart warming.

Team Culture Different cultures Hello everyone, my Name is Karina. I was born and grew up in Germany. My parents come from Kazakhstan and I grew up with a Russian culture. I have never been there but my family likes telling us children something about Kazakhstan. What immediately comes to mind when i think of the differences between the two cultures are the different festivals. Christmas in Germany is celebrated on December 24th and in Kazakhstan on January 7th or the the 8th. Women's Day, which is not celebrated here at all, is celebrated in Kasakhstan where people congratulate each other.

you would get coal. This day is celebrated at 6th of January, while in Germany it´s celebrated on the 6th of December and it isn´t a witch but a big man, called ,, Nikolaus´´. The food is also different, in Germany pork roast with dumpling and red cabbage is quite popular or something sweet ,,Bavarian Cream´´. In Italy on the other hand you can eat pizza, pasta, a lot of seafood, arancini and as a dessert something sweet like ,,Tiramisu´´ or ,,Pasticcini´´

More different cultures Hello my name is Elena I and I was born and I grew up in Germany. My parents come from Italy, from Sicily to be exact. So I grew up learning two languages, German and Italian. The first thing that comes to my mind as a difference between Italy and Germany is the weather, in Italy it's very warm, often sunny and in Germany it can be warm too, but it often rains and it can be very cold. The other difference between Germany and Italy are traditions, e.g. in Germany there is a festival called ,,Oktoberfest´´, the biggest beer festival in the world. A tipical tradition in Italy is ,,La Befana´´, who is witch, who gives you chocolate if you were a well behaved child and if you weren´t well behaved 15
