FOLIO ARCHI
DUBETTIER ROMAIN
As an aspiring architect, I am eager to apply my academic knowledge to a real world setting through an architecture internship. I am looking forward to learn from experienced professionals, gain practical experience in the field, and contribute my creative ideas to meaningful projects. Throughout my studies, I have developed a strong foundation in architectural design principles, including spatial organization, building materials, construction techniques, and sustainability, qualities that I now would like to apply to a firm.

RADIO LIBERTY
Rehabilitation of an abandoned military base on the coast of Spain
Teacher : Daniel Bossard and Merixell Vaqhuere
Year : 2022
Location : Pals, Spain
CONCEPTUAL APPROACH
The Radio Liberty military base is located in Pals, near Barcelona.
At less than 200m from the sea, and surrounded by a beautiful and preserved natural park, this area is strategically placed and has attracted a lot of real estate investors.
Radio Liberty was mostly used in the 50s and was abandoned at the end of the Cold war. The buildings stayed the same, and were only used by intruders and partyers.
After visiting the site, the approach we decided to develope was the one of the rehabilitation, since the buildings are in great shape, but also due to the historical heritage of a place like this.
THE PASSERELLE
The idea of a passerelle that would link the different buildings together came with the idea of a minimum soil impact.
Indeed, there is a true ecosystem that occured during the years where the site was unoccupied, and the vegetation has taken over the place.
This promenade would be made out of steel and wood, to assure a light structure, to keep the openness of the panorama.
The site would host different programs : coworking space, cold war museum, Residence for staffs and migrants, assembly room and cantina.
FOUR DEPARTMENTS
The middle one is the main hub of the project because he is part of the principal department, media awareness. It is what the association is mainly doing right know, blog website, newsteller.. The room in the middle hosts a radio/podcast show where expert could be invited to talk about their domaine of expertise and then spread awereness.
At the top of the building, there is the flora and fauna protection department, which would focus on developing solutions to protect the threatened plans on the dune as well as taking into consideration the new plants that developed on the site during this inoccupied years.
In order to be able to make some tests, the circle here hosts a circular ramp that allows to go down as well as go up on the roof to reach a greenhouse.
On the other side, we find the historical heritage preservation which is linked to a cold war museum.
On the opposite site, there is the last department, Organization of practical activites, such as organizing exposition in the museum or organize site visite of tue natural park with local guides to help new visitors understand the fragile ecosystem they are stepping on.
To gather all the energy created by the hosted within the circle. This creates a double out is this circular Those four departments can then collaborate development of radio liberty as well heritage.
four departments, the common room is double height. The only way of going in or circular ramp
collaborate together to ensure the sustainable well as protect and spread his historical heritage.
2 VEGETAL WALTZ
Taking part in the initiative “Campus pieton”
Teacher : Paula Viganò
Year : 2022
Location : EPFL, Lausanne
CONCEPTUAL APPROACH
The EPFL campus welcomes every day more than 10,000 actors, who make the site live, but whose comings and goings must be coordinated efficiently in order to connect the 4 corners of the campus in the easiest way possible. Due to the numerous laboratories and restaurant spaces, the road network is important on the campus. Nevertheless, the growing population of the campus and the development of new technologies force us to question the t
t
ransformation of these asphalt spaces. The pedestrian campus initiative was born from this questioning, with different workshops gathering actors from all faculties.
This is when we had the opportunity to work on the Avenue Piccard, one of the most used avenues on campus every day, and to propose a radical transformation of the avenue, in order to participate in making the campus of tomorrow.

RED TOMATOES
Conception of a facade for a contest of a school proposal.
Teacher : Yves Dreier, Eik Frenzel
Year : 2022
Location : EPFL, Lausanne
CONCEPTUAL APPROACH
As part of the Building Technology course, we were asked to design a façade for a school project in Matran, Switzerland.
We were asked to realize a section and an elevation at 1/20th, but also to analyze the natural lighting, as well as the general structure of the building, while taking into account
other aspects such as aesthetics and coherence with the architectural concept.
The goal was to have a strong and coherent project, without losing the conceptual idea behind it, in order to create something consistent at all scales.
DEAL WITH VARIOUS FACTORS
The windows have been fragmented (using the cladding of the facade). This allowed the creation of transom windows and tilt-andturn windows, with fixed vertical sunshades in front of the latter to secure them.
The splitting of the openings as well as the installation of fixed solar shading can have an impact on the natural light supply in the classroom. A daylight factor analysis should be performed.
The choice was made to keep the wood structure and the wood paneling on the ceiling to maintain a warm appearance. Only the light partitions were modified with plasterboard partitions because they have a better thermal density. The canvas blind could be kept to keep the desired expression of the facade.
Keeping the wooden structure was a challenge for today’s requirements in terms of overheating as well as structural composition. Nevertheless, it was important to maintain it, in order to be as close as possible with local swiss village architecture but also the soul of the project.

I-LAND(S)
Three islands, three marks in the landscape, one ballade
Teacher : Dieter Dietz, ALICE lab
Year : 2021
Location : Lake Leman, Geneva
CONCEPTUAL APPROACH
This project has been realized by thirteen people of the ALICE studio , during the final workshop of 1st year during may 2020. The conception, as well as the planification of the construction, prefabrication of certain pieces, has been realized at EPFL. The construction took place in Geneva.
We imagined a island as part of our end-of-year project. Its ambition is to reconstitute an ecosystem favourable to the well-being of birds on the waters of Lake Geneva. The banks
are invaded by humans, especially during the summer, our project aims to make the first step towards a better cohabitation between the fauna, the flora, and the Man.
Far from being an isolated intention, The I-Land is part of a larger scale approach, as much by its ecological approach, where the architecture would not be only for the Man, but also by its participation in the exhibition Open-House, a multidisciplinary open-air cultural event that showcases various projects of art, architecture or design.
3 DOTS...
Thought in the form of a circular island, plants and their roots come to create shelters necessary to the reproduction of the fauna. A braiding surrounding the island isolating it both visually and physically from the outside world.
...IN THE LANDSCAPE
The two other islands have been designed for pedestrians, offering them a break on their journey, by proposing a place to seat, contemplate, and breath.
The islands have been designed entirely in wood (and rocks for the weight) in order to make the construction simple, cheap but also to blend the project in the surroundings.
CONFLUENCE
A project for a new neighborhood in the periphery of Avignon
Teacher : Emmanuel Rey
Year : 2021/2022
Location : Avignon, France
CONCEPTUAL APPROACH
Located on the banks of the Rhone River, Avignon is a city in southern France.
Enclosed behind the imposing ramparts of its city, Avignon gives way to spaces of low density as soon as one passes its gates. Articulated around two main axes, the project aims to densify the green spaces surrounding the Place Saint-Lazare, highlighting the confluence between the two flows.
The project takes place on an giant parking lot of 94000 m². Mostly composed of a mineral soil, the field is abandoned alsmost completely.
Confluence offers a new way of envisaging this place, by proposing a new neighborhood, offering spacious ways to live, as well as active public space, two steps from the Rhone.
GENERAL CARACTERISTICS
The two identified flows take place on one hand along the Place Saint Lazare, and on the other hand following the path of the Rhône. In order to highlight these two streams, the project aims to bring vegetation within the Place Saint Lazard, while densifying the already existing one of the Rhone banks.
It is at the confluence of these two flows, that our built form takes place, which comes on the one hand to recognize the Rhone thanks to its curved form, and on the other hand the city, with its straight ends.
The built complex creates two parks with different qualities: landscaped and urban.
