She was honored for her dedication to making theater available to a diverse national audience as well as developing young classical actors. Ivey originated the lead role in Driving Miss Daisy and, in addition to dozens of other shows on and off Broadway, she has appeared in Present Laughter, Hamlet, the original Sunday in the Park with George, Henry IV, The Rivals, and Butley.
