La Comunidad ROI es una comunidad global de innovadores judíos creada por Lynn Schusterman. La comunidad ROI conecta a jóvenes dinámicos y creativos, lo que les permite traducir sus ideas en trabajo innovador que transformará el futuro de la vida judía en el mundo. ROI Community is a global community of Jewish innovators created by Lynn Schusterman. ROI Community connects dynamic and creative young Jews with each other, enabling them to translate their ideas into innovative work that will transform the future of Jewish life around the world. ROI Community nurtures member initiatives and provides professional development and networking opportunities, as well as support through ROI Micro Grants. Across the globe, amazing young Jews are connecting through the ROI Community. Through intensive gatherings such as the annual ROI Summit, regional gatherings and local events, ROI makes these connections possible. Our History, Present and Future ROI Community began in 2005 as a partnership between Taglit-Birthright Israel and the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation. ROI Community is solely supported by Lynn Schusterman and operates independently as an organization within the Schusterman philanthropic network. Carta de los Coordinadores Queridos Participantes, Bienvenidos al Encuentro Iberoamericano de ROI! El extraordinario grupo de personas que se están reuniendo en Argentina para el Encuentro Iberoamericano de ROI está constituido por individuos sobresalientes de 17 comunidades de Iberoamérica e Israel. Ustedes forman un grupo integral que está logrando, de manera exitosa, animar y revivir nuevas expresiones de vida judía en Iberoamérica y más allá. El objetivo de este encuentro es el de apoyar su activismo, ofreciéndoles talleres profesionales y la oportunidad de hacer networking con otros participantes. En el encuentro también tendrán la oportunidad de recibir retroalimentación sobre sus proyectos por parte de los otros participantes y del equipo profesional y aportar su experiencia en beneficio de todos los nuevos miembros de la comunidad ROI. Esperamos que al final de este programa, regresen a sus comunidades con más experiencia y muchas herramientas para realizar su trabajo de manera más profesional. Biografía:

Aarón Sztarkman ha participado en movimientos juveniles, y proyectos universitarios y comunitarios desde los 10 años. Tiene 20 años de dedicarse a la música a medio tiempo. Actualmente, es presidente del comité de Tikkun Olam de la Comunidad Israelita de El Salvador, el cual ayuda a escuelas públicas con infraestructura y necesidades diversas.

Trabajo Innovador:

Actualmente, Aarón está iniciando una banda de música judía junto a otros compañeros músicos. El objetivo de esta banda es dar a conocer la música judía en todas sus facetas (pop, rock y folk israelí, Jasídica, Yiddish, Ladina, litúrgica, etc), así como transmitir un mensaje de convivencia y paz a través de la Hasbara, participando en festivales, presentaciones en áreas públicas, fiestas judías, etc. La meta de la banda de Aarón es poder llevar este mensaje y dar a conocer esta faceta de la cultura judía en los países del área. Su meta es poder participar en diferentes congresos, festivales y eventos judíos donde la música judía pueda inspirar y llevar un mensaje de convivencia y paz a los participantes. 10

Biography:

Aaron Sztarkman has been involved in Jewish youth movements and college and community projects since the age of 10. He has dedicated 20 years of his life to music. Currently, Aaron is the Chairman of Tikkun Olam projects for the Jewish Community in El Salvador. His role is to help public schools with infrastructure and other needs.

Innovative Work:

Aaron is starting a new band of Jewish music to bring Jewish music in all its facets (pop, rock, Israeli folk, Hasidic, Yiddish, Ladino, liturgical, and more) to the larger El Salvadorian community. They intend to perform at different conferences, festivals and Jewish events where Jewish music can act as an inspiration and bring messages of coexistence and peace to all who attend.

Biografía:

Nació el 5 de enero de 1988. Estudió desde pequeño en el Instituto Dr Jaim Weizman, único colegio judío de Costa Rica. Es una persona muy activa, y muy social. Desde pequeño activó en Hanoar Hatzioni de Costa Rica, y asistió a todos los campamentos y majonim Intercontinentales. Fue parte de la hanaga del Majane dos veces teniendo la oportunidad de ser Rosh Majane una vez. En encuentros Intercontinentales, participó dos veces en Costa Rica, una en Guatemala, una en México y una en Argentina. Además asistió al Shnat Hajshara de Hanoar Hatzioni en el año 2006. Estuvo en el Programa Megamot, y trabajó en un kibutz, también tuvo la oportunidad de realizar trabajo social en la época de la Guerra del Líbano. Addy está a punto de graduarse de administración y mercadeo de la Universidad Latina para integrarse de lleno como gerente de mercadeo en una empresa familiar.

Trabajo Innovador:

Addy es uno de los líderes principales de Beit Scopus, además de ser muy creativo y espontáneo, ayuda y organiza la mayoría de actividades que se realizan en esta institución. Beit Scopus nace en el 2009 y desde entonces Addy es un miembro activo. Beit Scopus tiene como objetivo principal reunir a los jóvenes universitarios que no tienen un marco social para relacionarse. Ahí se realizan actividades recreacionales, de Hasbara, y de celebración de festividades judías.

Biography:

Addy Schifter was born in 1988. From an early age he studied at the Dr. Chaim Weizman Institute, the only Jewish school of Costa Rica. Since childhood, he has been active in Hanoar Hatzioni in Costa Rica, and he attended all intercontinental camps and machonim. He has been involved in organizing summer camps twice and he once served as Rosh Machane (main coordinator for camp). Addy has participated in international meetings in Guatemala, Costa Rica, Mexico and Argentina. In 2006, he attended the Shnat Hachshara (Gap Year program) of Hanoar Hatzioni in Israel where he was part of the Megamot program. During his program, Addy worked on a kibbutz and he provided volunteer services during the Lebanon War. Addy is finishing his bachelor’s degree in administration and marketing from the Universidad Latina and he is ready to start working full time as Marketing Manager in a family company.

Innovative Work:

Addy is one of the main leaders of Beit Scopus, where he helps organize the majority of activities carried out by this institution. Beit Scopus was founded in 2009 and Addy has been an active member since its inception. Amongst its objectives, Beit Scopus aims to bring together university students who would otherwise lack a Jewish social framework. They organize recreational activities, hasbara and the celebration of Jewish holidays.

Biografía:

Alan es Ingeniero Civil graduado en la Universidad Católica Andrés Bello en Caracas. Desde joven, ha participado activamente en diferentes grupos comunitarios, entre los que se destacan la dirección del proyecto MASA Israel Journey en Venezuela, el movimiento juvenil Noar Le Noar, en el cual ejerció como Madrij, Rosh y Guizbar, y director de la escuela de madrijim. Además ha estado involucrado en diversas actividades en el área de Hasbara y liderazgo juvenil. Alan también participo activamente representando a su universidad siendo tesorero de su delegación en el Harvard Model United Nations durante cuatro años. Actualmente trabaja en la Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF) y orienta su carrera hacia la construcción sostenible, certificación LEED® e implementación de estrategias de sostenibilidad corporativa. Entre sus hobbies, le gusta jugar tenis, pescar y la gastronomía.

Trabajo Innovador:

Venezuela

Actualmente, Alan se encuentra terminando su puesto como director y representante del proyecto MASA Israel Journey para Venezuela, y de dirigir la escuela de madrijim del movimiento juvenil Noar Le Noar. Sus proyecciones a futuro en relación a trabajo comunitario están orientadas hacia retomar nuevamente el tema de la Hasbara y ejecutar nuevos proyectos en Venezuela. En su país se ha intentado numerosas veces tener proyectos exitosos en materia de Hasbara sin lograrse los resultados esperados. Dentro de las aspiraciones de Alan en los próximos años están el poder levantar una estructura efectiva para ejercer la Hasbara en la sociedad Venezolana, a través de redes fijas de esclarecimiento, trabajo preventivo y un posicionamiento de imagen exitoso de Israel y sus acciones dentro de un escenario político cuesta arriba en materia política, económica y de seguridad.

Biography:

Alan Levy is a civil engineer who graduated from the Universidad Catolica Andrés Bello in Caracas. Since he was very young, Alan has been an active participant in various community groups, among them as manager of MASA Israel Journey in Venezuela, a counselor and ultimately head of the youth movement Noar Le Noar, and a manager of a school of madrichim for Noar Le Noar. He has also been involved in various activities in the area of hasbara and youth leadership. For four years, Alan represented his university as treasurer of his delegation in the Harvard Model United Nations. Alan currently works in the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) where he has focused his career on sustainable building certification (LEED) and the implementation of corporate sustainability strategies. His hobbies include tennis, fishing and gastronomy.

Innovative Work:

Alan is currently finishing his position as director and representative of MASA Israel Journey for Venezuela and manager of the school of madrichim for Noar Le Noar. In the near future, Alan wants to direct his community work towards the subject of hasbara and the execution of new projects in Venezuela. There have been numerous attempts to launch successful hasbara projects in his home country but the projects have not succeeded in achieving the desired results. Alan aspires to create an effective structure for hasbara in the Venezuelan society to defend Israel’s image and actions over the coming years.

Alberto Tawachi Dirección General, Tars Group

Biografía:

Alberto Tawachi es un joven empresario que nació y reside en la ciudad de Panamá. Su principal actividad es la dirección de una compañía de asesoría e inversión inmobiliaria el cual ha logrado la unión de capital local y extranjero para el desarrollo de proyectos importantes como el Centro Comercial Metromall. También es director de Technomedia, empresa dedicada al desarrollo de páginas web con contenido sobre actividades en Panamá. Alberto también es uno de los fundadores y actual presidente del Harvard Club of Panamá, el cual organiza actividades para egresados de Harvard en Panamá. En su tiempo libre, Alberto colabora y asesora a líderes políticos sobre estrategia y políticas públicas, y los instruye sobre diversos temas relacionados con el judaísmo, como por ejemplo historia, cultura y actualidad. Alberto posee una licenciatura en Relaciones Internacionales y una maestría en Políticas Publicas.

Trabajo Innovador:

Panama

Alberto se desempeña como presidente del Harvard Club of Panamá cuyo principal objetivo es desarrollar actividades para egresados de la Universidad de Harvard tales como desayunos y conferencias con líderes académicos, políticos y empresarios. Otra misión del club es la asistencia a expertos que vienen a realizar investigación en Panamá. Dos de las actividades más innovadoras del Club son los concursos de ensayos en inglés y español para alumnos de escuelas secundarias y la asesoría a líderes políticos sobre temas de actualidad. Alberto se ha ganado la confianza de varios líderes políticos a quienes ayudó con temas de procuración de fondos y de administración pública. Alberto es también miembro de un grupo de siete jóvenes judíos, formado este año tras la reunión anual del American Jewish Comittee en Washington, ellos tienen como objetivo conseguir el apoyo de los políticos panameños y mantener una imagen favorable de Israel y la comunidad judía panameña.

Biography:

Alberto Tawachi is a young entrepreneur who was born and resides in the city of Panama. Alberto manages a consulting and real estate investment company that successfully merges local and foreign capital for the development of important projects such as the Metromall shopping center. He is also director of Technomedia, a company dedicated to the development of web pages with content about activities in Panama. In addition, Alberto is one of the founders and current President of the Harvard Club of Panama, which organizes activities for graduates of Harvard in Panama. In his spare time, Alberto collaborates and provides advice to political leaders on strategy and public policy and instructs them on various topics related to Judaism, such as history and culture. Alberto has a bachelor’s degree in international relations and a master’s degree in public policy.

Innovative Work:

Alberto serves as President of the Harvard Club of Panama. The Club’s primary objective is to develop activities for graduates of Harvard University, such as breakfasts and conferences with academics, politicians and business leaders. Another mission of the Club is to assist experts who come to Panama to pursue research. Two of the Club’s most innovative activities are contests for high school students it runs in English and in Spanish and it advises political leaders on topical issues. Alberto has earned the trust of several political leaders whom he helped through fundraising and other public services. Alberto is also a member of a group of seven young Jews, formed this year after the annual meeting of the American Jewish Committee in Washington, whose mission is to secure the support of Panamanian policymakers and maintain a favorable image of Israel and the Panamanian Jewish community.

Biografía:

Alice es politóloga de de la Universidad de Los Andes con opción en derecho público administrativo, tiene un diplomado en Oriente Medio Contemporáneo de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Estuvo involucrada en la política local de Colombia como candidata a las elecciones locales de 2007. Trabajó en el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Colombia en el área de Asuntos Multilaterales y Políticos. Desde 2008 ha trabajado en el Departamento Nacional de Planeación en el área de Justicia, Seguridad y Gobierno. El trabajo de Alice consiste en la realización de las políticas que rigen la inversión pública. Alice ha estado involucrada en la comunidad judía en muchos proyectos, incluyendo el proyecto de Hasbara en la Oficina de Relaciones Humanas de la Confederación de Comunidades Judías de Colombia. También ha estado involucrada en la organización de los Juegos Nacionales Maccabi por 4 años y escribe regularmente columnas en el periódico de la comunidad judía.

Trabajo Innovador:

El trabajo de Alice en la comunidad consiste en reunir información que le permite comparar y compartir experiencias exitosas en otras comunidades y hacer que funcione en la de ella. La mayor meta de la comunidad es hacer de cada judío en Colombia a un embajador. Es por eso que han desarrollado un curso de Hasbara para jóvenes judíos que permita ampliar sus conceptos y sus habilidades tácticas contra el antisemitismo y el sentimiento anti israelí y también para desarrollar las cualidades retóricas como herramienta útil de defensa. Para esto Alice ayuda a reunir expertos de distintas áreas para que ayuden con estos temas, y hasta ahora tienen alrededor de 60 jóvenes que participan en cada sesión.

Biography:

Alice Berggrun majored in politics at the Universidad de Los Andes and a minor in administrative law. She also has a degree in Middle East studies from the National University of Colombia. In 2007, Alice ran for a seat on her local city council in Colombia. She worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the area of political and multilateral affairs. Since 2008, she has worked in the National Department of Planning in the area of justice, security and governance. Alice’s work focuses on implementing public investment policies. Alice is an active member of her Jewish community. She is involved in a hasbara project at the Office of Human Relations for the Confederation of Jewish Communities of Colombia and, for four years, Alice has been involved with the national Maccabi Games. Alice regularly writes columns for the local Jewish newspaper.

Innovative Work:

Alice’s work in the Jewish community includes gathering information about successful experiences from other communities to see if they can be applied to her own community. The ultimate goal of the community is to make every Jew in Colombia an ambassador. To that end, they have developed a course in Israel advocacy for Jewish youth that helps them hone their reasoning, debating and rhetoric skills to better fight against anti-Semitism and anti-Israeli sentiment and to use as a tool to advocate and defend their ideas. Alice assists in bringing together experts from different fields to help with these issues. So far, the project boasts around 60 young people who participate in each session.

Biografía:

Bárbara nació en Buenos Aires, Argentina, en 1980. Luego de graduarse como Licenciada en Ciencias de la Educación, cursó sus estudios de maestría en Derechos Humanos. Ha sido Fellow de PresenTense 2011 y participa del programa Nuevas Generaciones del Congreso Judío Latinoamericano. Actualmente se desempeña como CoDirectora de Encontrarse en la Diversidad, programa de educación en diálogo intercultural desde una perspectiva de derechos humanos dirigido a jóvenes de entre 14 y 25 años comprometidos con la construcción de una sociedad más justa. Trabaja además como Coordinadora Distrital del Programa Escuelas del Bicentenario, dependiente del Gobierno de la Provincia de Buenos Aires. A lo largo de los tres últimos años ha sido parte de la Comisión de Programas de Limud Argentina. En 2010 ha trabajado como asesora de la Dirección General de Minorías y sus Garantías en la Subsecretaría de Derechos Humanos del Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

Trabajo Innovador:

Encontrarse en la diversidad organiza desde el año 2007 encuentros en varios formatos que brindan el marco para conocer los mecanismos de la exclusión y de la desigualdad dentro de nuestra sociedad, así como también los procedimientos más adecuados para lograr un espacio plural, de aceptación e inclusión, donde las diferencias enriquezcan y potencien, siendo la diversidad comprendida como un valor. Espectáculos, mesas de debate, panelistas de primer nivel, ayudan a pensar sobre campos como el de los medios de comunicación, la educación, el deporte y la política en su cruce con la diversidad. El 6 de octubre del 2010 se realizó la cuarta edición de la jornada anual que contó con la participación de más de 1300 jóvenes provenientes de escuelas secundarias públicas y privadas, institutos terciarios, diferentes niveles socioeconómicos y credos. En el año 2011 se lanzó un nuevo programa, “Encontrarse en la diversidad en tu escuela”.

Biography:

Barbara Reich was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1980. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in the science of education, she received her master’s degree in human rights. She was a PresenTense fellow in 2011 and she currently participates in the New Generations program of the Latin American Jewish Congress. Barbara is codirector of Encontrarse en la Diversidad, an educational program committed to building a more just society that centers on intercultural dialogue and human rights for young people between the ages of 14 to 25. Barbara works as the coordinator of the bicentennial school program of the government of the province of Buenos Aires. For the past three years, she has been active in the Argentina Limud programming committee. In 2010, she worked as Advisor to the Directorate-General for Minorities and Guarantees in the Under-Secretary for human rights of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires.

Innovative Work:

Encontrarse en la diversidad was established in 2007 and has functioned in various formats to provide the framework for examining the mechanisms of exclusion and inequality in our society and to develop ways to achieve a more pluralistic society where differences enrich and enhance and where diversity is appreciated as a value. Through performances and discussion panels, the organization brings to the forefront issues such as communication, media, education, sports and politics and how they intersect with diversity. In October of 2010, the fourth annual conference took place with over 1,300 youth from public and private secondary schools and tertiary institutes participating who represented different socioeconomic levels and beliefs. A new program called “Find diversity in your school” was launched in 2011.

Desde niño Brian fue parte de un grupo de actuación. Actualmente se encuentra estudiando la licenciatura en Estudios Socioculturales en la Universidad de La Habana. Ha recibido algunos premios literarios y siempre ha sido un miembro activo de la comunidad a la que pertenece, colaborando en todos los proyectos en los que ha podido brindar su talento y su fuerza. Cuando Brian se convirtió en líder de la Organización Juvenil, su nivel de compromiso con la comunidad aumento, desarrollando ideas novedosas para fortalecer a su comunidad junto al tzevet con el que trabaja. A Brian le gusta mucho leer y realizar audiovisuales. Ha estado en varios grupos de teatro por lo que es un aficionado a la actuación. En estos momentos está estudiando liturgia de forma autodidacta y con la guía de la directiva de su comunidad, por lo que asume roles de tipo religioso. Le gusta compartir con sus amigos y crear nuevos proyectos dentro de su tzevet.

Además de ser madrij de la Organización Juvenil y ser miembro del grupo de Servicios Religiosos, Brian trabaja en el Centro Deportivo Recreativo José Miller Fredman que tienen en la comunidad. Brian está encargado de organizar los eventos que en él se realizan en el Centro Deportivo y es el principal responsable del cuidado del mismo. Como parte del Tzevet de madrijim de la Organización Juvenil está a cargo del área recreativa y se encarga de realizar proyectos que incentiven a sus miembros, como por ejemplo, campeonatos deportivos, cursos de papel maché, concursos de literatura y organización de eventos culturales en general.

Biography:

As a boy, Brian Montoto was part of a group of performing artists. He is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in sociocultural studies at the University of Havana where he was the recipient of literary awards and where has been an active member of the Jewish community. When Brian became a leader in a youth movement, his level of commitment to the community increased and, together with his staff, he began developing new ideas to strengthen the community. Brian loves reading and developing audiovisual projects. He has been in several theatre groups as an amateur performer. Currently, he is teaching himself liturgy with the guidance of the community board of directors. Brian enjoys spending time with his friends and creating new projects with the other youth movement staff.

Innovative Work:

Among his responsibilities as a youth movement madrich, Brian is in charge of recreational activities. For example, he oversees activities such as sports championships, paper maché courses, literature contests and cultural events. Brian is also a member of the religious services group and he works at the José Miller Fredman Sports Center of the Jewish community where he is responsible for organizing and operating all Center events, including activities like the the ones listed above.

Carolina ha sido voluntaria en Hillel de Río de Janeiro durante los últimos 4 años. Ha estado involucrada en la recaudación de fondos para la institución además de haber participado en otros pequeños proyectos. Actualmente se desempeña como parte del personal de dos proyectos muy interesantes. El primero de ellos se llama “Coexistencia” y el otro es “Yad Vaed”.

Trabajo Innovador:

El proyecto “Coexistencia” conduce los debates sobre la discriminación, los prejuicios y la responsabilidad social para estudiantes de escuelas en Río de Janeiro. A fin de establecer un canal de diálogo entre los participantes, el programa utiliza a monitores para llevar a cabo actividades educativas en el aula a través de dinámicas de grupo, juegos y conversaciones. El programa utiliza imágenes de artistas internacionales sobre el tema, que han sido exhibidas en el Museo “On the Seam” en Jerusalem. Antes de entrar a las aulas, los monitores son entrenados y facultados por el Hillel. El programa ya ha asistido a más de 2.000 estudiantes. El proyecto “Coexistencia” siempre se trabaja para mejorar, a través del intercambio de experiencias dentro y fuera de las aulas y poniéndose en contacto con nuevas escuelas y comunidades para mostrar el proyecto y tener la oportunidad de incidir en ellas.

Biography:

Carolina Lifchitz has been a volunteer at Hillel Rio for the past four years where she has been involved with fundraising, along with other projects. She is currently participating as a staff member for two very interesting projects. The first one is called Coexistence and the other one is Yad Vaed.

Innovative Work:

The Coexistence project runs educational programs on issues such as discrimination, prejudice and social responsibility for students in schools throughout Rio. In order to instigate dialogue between participants, the program uses facilitators to conduct educational activities in the classroom through group dynamic exercises, games and conversations. The program also utilizes artwork by internationally acclaimed artists, which were exhibited at the On the Seam museum in Jerusalem. Before going into the classroom, the facilitators are trained and empowered by Hillel Rio. The program has now reached over 2,000 students. Coexistence is always working to improve its work and its impact. The Coexistence project reviews feedback from experiences inside and outside of the classroom and it reaches out to new schools and communities that might be interested in participating.

Daniel es un joven que al que siempre la ha gustado participar dentro de la comunidad judía local. Ha sido miembro de diversos movimientos juveniles como janij, madrij y mazkir. Estudió hasta la edad de 18 años en la escuela Eliezer Steinberg, el colegio judío de Río de Janeiro. Se graduó en diseño gráfico, siempre utiliza sus conocimientos para ayudar a instituciones comunitarias y ha colaborado en eventos comunitarios importantes. En 2007 hizo Aliá y vivió durante dos años en Israel. Mientras vivió en Israel, fue invitado para acompañar a grupos que iban a prepararse para la Marcha de la Vida e hizo el servicio militar en el ejército de Defensa de Israel. Después de regresar a Brasil se involucró en la industria del diseño y actualmente trabaja como diseñador de Hillel en Rio de Janeiro. Desde pequeño es miembro de una pequeña sinagoga vinculada a Jabad donde hizo bar mitzvah y asiste todos los shabat.

Trabajo Innovador:

Actualmente Daniel trabaja como diseñador de Río Hillel. Dentro de la institución, es responsable de todas las comunicaciones con los participantes y también está a cargo de la creación de la identidad institucional y el material publicitario de la institución. Actualmente están innovando en la forma de comunicación y le están dando énfasis a los medios de comunicación social (facebook, twitter, flickr, etc.). Daniel está buscando formas creativas de innovar en la comunicación con los jóvenes que participan en Hillel. Además de su trabajo en Hillel, Daniel y un colega están montando una pequeña oficina de diseño. El objetivo es atender a clientes individuales y ser intermediarios de pequeñas empresas. La red comunitaria le permite conseguir clientes y proporcionar diversos servicios e ideas globales para las empresas que actualmente están dirigidas por personas de la comunidad judía.

Biography:

Daniel Konskier is a young Jewish activist. Growing up in Brazil, he was a member of various youth movements as a chanich, madrich and mazkir. He attended the Eliezer Steinberg School, the Jewish school of Rio de Janeiro, through high school. He received a bachelor’s degree in graphic design. In 2007, he made aliyah and lived in Israel for two years. During this time, he was invited to accompany visiting groups to Israel that were preparing for March of the Living. He also served in the Israel Defense Forces. After returning to Brazil, he was involved in the design industry and he currently works as a designer at Hillel in Rio de Janeiro. Since childhood, Daniel has been a member of a small Chabad synagogue where he celebrated his Bar Mitzvah. He attends services every Shabbat.

Innovative Work:

Daniel is working as a designer for Hillel Rio. Within the institution, he is responsible for all communication with participants and is also in charge of creating the institutional identity and its publicity materials. Currently, his innovation centers on communication with an emphasis on social media (such as Facebook, Twitter and Flickr). Daniel is looking for creative ways to innovate and improve Hillel’s communication with young people. In addition to his work at Hillel, Daniel and a colleague are starting a small design business to serve individual clients and to become intermediaries for small businesses. The community network allows him to find potential clients and to provide various services and offer novel ideas for companies managed by members of the Jewish community.

Denise Dalva Coordinadora, Mifgash Uruguay

Biografía:

Denise es Licenciada en Comunicación Social y se ha desempeñado en diferentes organizaciones nacionales e internacionales tanto fuera como dentro de la comunidad judía. Durante estos años de experiencia profesional descubrió que se siente especialmente a gusto participando y activando en organizaciones comunitarias o con una causa social como lo hizo en Hillel, Fundación Logros y DESEM jóvenes Emprendedores. Estas actividades le brindaron gran realización personal y profesional. Su educación formal fue por fuera del ámbito judío. A partir de los 22 años comenzó a participar por motivación propia en diferentes espacios de la comunidad: Hillel, Comunidad Israelita del Uruguay, Movimiento de Rikudim, Comunidad Yavne, y a vincularse progresivamente con distintos sectores de su comunidad. Gracias a las diferentes actividades realizadas y a su capacidad de tender redes y motivar a otros, Denise se ha ganado un lugar de liderazgo en la comunidad judía de Uruguay.

Trabajo Innovador:

Mifgash es un espacio de encuentro para jóvenes solteros judíos de entre 28 y 40 años, concebido para combatir la asimilación creado por Denise. Varios jóvenes mayores de 30 años aún están solteros y ansían un marco judío y actividades para su edad. Mifgash surge a mediados de 2009. Denise tenía varios amigos y conocidos solteros y le pareció importante generar un espacio para que se conocieran y compartieran actividades con otros judíos de su edad. Conversando con una pareja de shlijim de la kehilá Yavne nació el proyecto de realizar encuentros con foco social que a la vez incorporan un contenido judaico. Para realizar las actividades Denise cuenta con apoyo económico de la comunidad Yavne. Desde que se inició el proyecto ya se formaron 4 parejas. La primera se casó hace un mes y las otras 3 parejas tienen planes de futuro para los próximos meses.

Biography:

Denise Dalva earned a degree in social communication and has served in different national and international organizations both within and outside the Jewish community. During these years of professional experience, she discovered that she feels especially comfortable participating in and running community-based organizations with a social cause, such as her work with the Hillel Foundation and DESEM young entrepreneurs. These activities gave her great personal and professional fulfillment. She received her formal education outside of the Jewish community. At age 22, she began to participate by her own motivation in different areas of the Jewish community: Hillel, the Jewish community of Uruguay, Rikudim movement, Yavne community, and through this she gradually linked to various sectors of the community. Thanks to the different activities carried out and her ability to build networks and motivate others, Denise has earned a place of leadership in the Jewish community of Uruguay.

Innovative Work:

Mifgash is a meeting place for young Jewish singles, ages 28 to 40, created by Denise in 2009 to fight against assimilation. Several young people over the age of 30 are still single and desperately want a Jewish framework and activities. Mifgash came about because Denise had several single friends and it seemed important to create a space for them to meet and share activities with other Jews of their age range. After speaking with some shlichim from the Yavne community, the project to create spaces with a social bend that incorporate Judaic content at the same time was born. To carry out the activities, Denise received financial support from the Yavne community. Mifgash already boasts four matchings since the project began. The first couple married a month ago and the three other couples will follow suit in the coming months.

Dina tiene 29 años, es una joven judía Mexicana orgullosa de serlo, apasionada y comprometida. Al terminar la escuela se fue a Israel donde pasó 4 meses en dos Kibutzim y otros dos meses en un curso del ejército llamado Marva. Durante la Universidad organizó las jornadas judaicas donde pudo compartir su religión y cultura con todos los estudiantes a través de bailes, gastronomía, conferencias, películas y una rifa de un viaje a Israel. En 2007 Dina fundó Deport-es para Compartir, un programa educativo y cívico que enseña a la niñez sobre valores e importantes asuntos globales a través de juegos y deportes. Hoy, más de 32,500 niñas y niños han aprendido a través de esta metodología única. Dina fue seleccionada por la International Youth Foundation como YouthAction Net Fellow en 2009. Dina es una fellow de Ashoka y está invitada a participar en el proceso para ser miembro del World Jewish Diplomatic Corps.

Deport-es para Compartir es un programa educativo y cívico que busca generar conciencia en la niñez y juventud acerca de los 8 objetivos de Desarrollo del Milenio de la ONU a través de juegos vivenciales que involucran actividad física. El programa promueve valores transversales como el trabajo en equipo, el juego limpio, el respeto, la tolerancia y la equidad de género. Basado en un modelo que busca compartir conocimientos e identidades, Deportes para Compartir promueve en cada grupo con el que se trabaja la creación de “contenedores creativos” diseñados por la niñez y juventud de cada comunidad, los cuales son intercambiados con otras comunidades de distintos contextos que también han vivido el programa. Los participantes son invitados a llenar los contenedores con objetos hechos por ellos mismos, que ejemplifican y representan sus culturas, quiénes son, cuáles son sus sueños, y lo que han aprendido en relación a los Objetivos del Milenio.

Dina Buchbinder is 29 years old. She is proud to be a young and passionate Mexican Jew. After high school she lived in Israel during which she spent four months on two kibbutzim and another two months in the Marvah army program. During college, she organized Jewish Journeys, a program for students to showcase Jewish life through dance, food, conferences, movies and a raffle to win a trip to Israel. In 2007, Dina founded Deport-es para Compartir (a play on words meaning ‘sports to share’ and at the same time, sports are for sharing), a civic and educational program that teaches children about values and important global issues through games and sports. Over 32,500 girls and boys have participated in this unique program. In 2009, Dina was selected by the International Youth Foundation as a Youth Action Net Fellow. Dina is an Ashoka fellow and she has been invited to be a member of the World Jewish Diplomatic Corps.

Innovative Work:

Deport-es para Compartir is a civic and educational program that seeks to raise awareness among children and youth about the UN’s 8 Millennium Development Goals through experiential games and athletic activities. The program promotes values such as teamwork, fair play, respect, tolerance and gender equality. Based on a model of cultural exchange, each participating group creates “creative containers” that the children fill with objects that represent their culture, individual lives and personal dreams. These containers are then exchanged with other communities to promote cross-cultural dialogue and knowledge.

Ditta es consultora en el área de investigación, política pública, educación y capacitación. Se desempeña como coordinadora de la red de Universidades de los Países Bajos. Además es consultora de la dirección de juventud y deporte del Consejo Europeo. Tiene una maestría en relaciones internacionales de la Escuela Internacional de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales de la Universidad de Ámsterdam, y una licenciatura en Relaciones Internacionales y Economía de la Universidad de Economía de Praga. Desde 2007 vive en Brasil y trabaja en la Universidad de la Juventud como coordinadora general. Además está involucrada en la comunidad judía en el área de danzas israelíes, trabajando en la interpretación temática de la comunidad judía de Brasil.

Trabajo Innovador:

El trabajo de Ditta se desarrolla en el ámbito del conocimiento de la sociedad con un enfoque en el segmento de la población juvenil. En los últimos años la curiosidad de Ditta la llevó a la decisión de contribuir al desarrollo de políticas de juventud y otras políticas sectoriales relacionadas al contexto de Brasil. Inicialmente este trabajo se inspiró en la fuerza de los movimientos políticos y sociales de América Latina lo que motivó a Ditta a trasladarse a Brasil. En los últimos años, ha trabajado en varios Estados miembros de la Federación, incluyendo Río de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Pernambuco, Ceará, Pará y Amazonas entre otros. El aspecto innovador del trabajo de Ditta se centra en el desarrollo y la adaptación de metodologías apropiadas para el trabajo en conjunto entre los administradores públicos, los representantes de la sociedad civil organizada y los movimientos sociales para mejorar la vida de los jóvenes brasileños.

Ditta Dolejsiova is a consultant in the areas of research, public policy and education. She works on issues related to youth, gender, human rights, citizenship, social inclusion, conflict, transformation, environment, sustainability and social development. She serves as coordinator for a network of universities in the Netherlands. She is also a consultant for youth and sports as a member of the board of directors of the European Council. She has a master’s degree in international relations from the international school of humanities and social sciences of the University of Amsterdam and a bachelor’s degree in international relations and economics from the University of Economics in Prague. Since 2007, Ditta has lived in Brazil and she works at the University of Youth as its general coordinator. She is also active in the Jewish community, particularly through Israeli folk dance.

Innovative Work:

Ditta’s work centers on knowledge of society with a focus on youth. In recent years, Ditta’s curiosity led her to the decision to contribute to the development of youth policies and other sector policies within the context of Brazil. Initially, this work was inspired by the strength of the political and social movements in Latin America, which prompted Ditta to move to Brazil. In recent years, she has worked in several member states of the Federation, including Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Pernambuco, Ceará, Pará and the Amazonas. The innovative aspect of her work focuses on the development and adaptation of appropriate methodologies for teamwork among public administrators and representatives of organized civil society and social movements in order to improve the lives of young Brazilians.

Erik es boliviano de origen. Actualmente, trabaja de manera independiente como consultor para distintas agencias de cooperación internacional dentro del territorio Boliviano en diversas áreas relacionadas al Desarrollo EconómicoSocial Local. Proviene de una comunidad en vías de extinción, constituida por no más de 180 personas en La Paz, Bolivia, lo cual dificulta llevar adelante una vida judía. Sin embargo, como miembro activo de la comunidad intenta continuar con sus tradiciones y mantener cierto tipo de unidad dentro de la comunidad. Bolivia es un país que no cuenta con relaciones diplomáticas con Israel y, para empeorar la situación, cuenta con relaciones diplomáticas muy sólidas con la República Bolivariana de Venezuela y la República Islámica de Irán. El interés de Erik consiste en establecer relaciones estratégicas dentro de las esferas públicas y privadas, para poder mantener una presencia judía dentro del territorio boliviano y por supuesto a nivel regional, asistiendo a la continuidad del judaísmo.

Actualmente, Erik representa a un par de organizaciones cuyo interés consiste en contribuir con el desarrollo social y económico en Bolivia. Por ejemplo, la ejecución de programas innovadores como el intercambio de experiencias entre municipios bolivianos y municipios canadienses permite la creación de una hermandad entre niveles locales y de base entre países y su gente. El intercambio cultural es vital para constituir y construir una sociedad basada en el marco del respeto, la tolerancia y la equidad. Debido a la distancia y la falta de conocimiento sobre Israel, este es visto y catalogado como un Estado opresor que opera bajo la Ley de la Represión. La falta de conocimiento sobre la verdadera naturaleza del Estado de Israel constituye los cimientos para esparcir los estigmas sociales, la intolerancia y la discriminación. Sin embargo, a través de alianzas entre grupos de comercio, de educación y ayuda humanitaria, se puede lograr educar e informar a la gente.

Biography:

Erik Meir was born in Bolivia. He works as an independent consultant for various international agencies within the Bolivian territory in several areas related to the local socialeconomic development. He comes from an endangered Jewish community, made up of no more than 180 members in La Paz, Bolivia, which makes it difficult to live and experience Jewish life. However, as an active member of the community he seeks to continue the traditions and to maintain some kind of unity within the community. Bolivia is a country that does not have diplomatic relations with Israel and worse, it has very strong diplomatic relations with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Erik would like to establish strategic relations in the public and private spheres to maintain a Jewish presence within the territory of Bolivia and also at the regional level to assure the continuity of Judaism.

Innovative Work:

Erik is currently involved in a couple of organizations that contribute to Bolivia’s social and economic development, including an innovative cultural exchange program between Bolivian and Canadian municipalities. These types of exchanges foster brotherhood at both the local and international levels by building bridges between countries and their people. Cultural exchange is vital to establishing and building a society based on respect, tolerance and equality. Israel, because of its distance and because there is a lack of knowledge about it, is considered an oppressive State that operates under repressive laws. This lack of knowledge about the true nature of the State of Israel brings about intolerance and discrimination. However, through alliances between groups and educational and humanitarian aid, people can be educated and informed.

Evelyn Goldfinger es licenciada en Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales. Es artista, dramaturga, directora e investigadora teatral. Evelyn coordina y dirige un elenco solidario de jóvenes voluntarios en Hillel Argentina desde 2003, que hace presentaciones teatrales ante niños de escasos recursos. Evelyn realizó una pasantía en el teatro ídish Folksbiene de Nueva York. A su regreso escribió “El Baúl de la Bobe”, una obra para enseñarle a las nuevas generaciones acerca de la lengua y cultura ídish. Evelyn es la creadora y directora de El Toratrón, un elenco de teatro educacional judaico que presenta obras interactivas sobre Jaguim e historias de la Torá. El Toratrón obtuvo un ROI Grant y realizó una obra sobre Israel a pedido de la Embajada de Israel en Argentina. Evelyn se ha desempeñado como asistente de dirección, actriz y cantante de varios espectáculos. Obtuvo el prestigioso premio Juan Cervera a la investigación sobre teatro para niños y jóvenes y fue invitada a presentar sus trabajos en Australia, Italia y Dinamarca.

Trabajo Innovador:

En el año 2007 Evelyn desarrolló El Toratrón. Este proyecto vuelve a la vida a los personajes y enseñanzas bíblicas frente a los ojos del público al tiempo que lo invita a zambullirse en la historia de la Torá, la Biblia hebrea, y su Legado. Cada show de El Toratrón es una propuesta original con una excelente calidad artística, que siguiendo muy de cerca los pasajes de la Torá e interpretaciones bíblicas, devela la magia de la Torá sembrando el interés y la curiosidad, de una forma original, divertida, al tiempo que profunda y participativa. En un mundo donde los chicos interactúan a través de Internet y donde lo banal cobra protagonismo, resulta todo un desafío enseñar Torá. El desafío es de transmitir el legado judío de una forma interactiva y accesible. La audiencia son niños de 3 a 10 años, sus familias y educadores.

Biography:

Evelyn Goldfinger has a degree in humanities and social sciences. She is an artist, playwright, director and theatrical researcher. Since 2003, Evelyn has coordinated and overseen a cast of young volunteers in Hillel Argentina who perform theatrical presentations to economically disadvantaged children. Evelyn did an internship at the IdishFolksbiene’s theater in New York. After returning to Argentina, she wrote El Baúl de la Bobe to teach new generations about the Yiddish language and culture. Evelyn is the creator and Director of the El Toratron, a Judaic educational theatre that features interactive works about Jewish holidays and stories from the Torah. The El Toratron obtained a grant from ROI and performed a play about Israel for the Israeli Embassy in Argentina. Evelyn won the prestigious Juan Cervera prize on theater research for children and youth and she was invited to present her work in Australia, Italy and Denmark.

Innovative Work:

In 2007, Evelyn developed the El Toratron project. This project brings to life Biblical characters, teachings and legacy to the public. Each show presents an original idea that follows passages from the Torah and its interpretations, unveiling the magic of the Torah and sowing interest and curiosity, in an original and funny manner, because of its deep and participatory approach. In a world where children interact over the Internet and where the banal takes center stage, it is a challenge to teach Torah. La misión del proyecto Jewpreneur es acercar a judíos de diversos lugares a través de una plataforma WEB de microcréditos que permita conectar a aquellas personas con intenciones de llevar a la realidad sus proyectos con otras que estén dispuestas a colaborar con su causa. El proyecto combina la efectividad de las micro-finanzas con el potencial y el alcance que brinda Internet. Beneficiará a quienes tengan un plan de negocios o un proyecto que les permita generar un ingreso extra de dinero o simplemente los ayude a salir de una situación económica delicada. El proyecto apunta a personas que, por su situación particular, se encuentran fuera del circuito formal de préstamos bancarios, a jóvenes en sus 20s que están comenzando, a adultos desempleados en sus 40s y 50s o a madres solteras. Es una idea innovadora en Argentina pues apunta a cambiar el paradigma tradicional del asistencialismo.

Ezequiel Sporn is a business manager living in Argentina who has overseen projects throughout Latin America. He currently works as a regional manager of operations for an insurance company where his main job is to implement projects that improve the profitability of the Group and impact positively on the lives of its employees. Active in the Jewish community, Ezequiel is a member of “New Generations” of the Latin American Jewish Congress. He also assists and blogs for various institutions via communication 2.0 projects to support the Jewish community and Israel. Ezequiel lives in Buenos Aires with his wife, Barbara, and awaits the arrival of their first child in December.

Innovative Work:

The mission of Ezequiel’s Jewpreneur project is to bring together Jews from various places through a microcredit WEB platform that matches projects – those who are in need of funding for their projects with people who are interested in seeing such projects be realized or who are interested in collaboration. Jewpreneur takes the unlimited scope and reach of the Internet to optimize and further the advantages of microfinance. This project will benefit those who have a business plan or a project that they intend to use to earn extra income or simply help them out of a delicate economic situation. The project aims to assist those who fall outside the formal circuit of bank loans, such as young people in their 20s who are beginning their careers, unemployed people in their 40s and 50s or single mothers. It is an innovative idea in Argentina because it aims to change the traditional paradigm of social assistance.

Fabi, tiene 29 años, nacida en Río de Janeiro, hija de padre judío y madre no judía, siempre estudió en colegio judío, pues aunque su madre no es judía, siempre insistió en que sus hijos tuvieran una educación judía. Fue miembro de Habonim Dror de los 10 a los 17 años. Se graduó en marketing y moda, y actualmente trabaja en el mundo de la moda. Fabi estuvo apartada de las actividades comunitarias por mucho tiempo porque no se sentía identificada con lo que estaba ocurriendo con los jóvenes de su edad, pero a partir de 2008 decidió involucrarse con Hillel y con el proyecto de “Niños en Movimiento”. Actualmente Fabi es la voluntaria más veterana del proyecto. En 2010 Fabi participó en Yad Vaed. Ella se siente muy orgullosa de poder ser parte de proyectos tan exitosos y de haber rescatado el judaísmo que existe dentro de ella que estuvo dormido por varios años.

Trabajo Innovador:

Fabiana es parte de Hillel en Rio de Janeiro desde comienzos del año 2008 y actualmente es una de las coordinadoras del programa “Niños en Movimiento”. Este es un proyecto de educación no formal que se lleva a cabo con niños de 6 a 14 años en la zona de Copacabana. Los domingos, cada dos semanas, se desarrollan actividades cuyo objetivo es jugar y aprender. Una vez por semestre todos los voluntarios se reúnen durante un fin de semana para trazar los objetivos del semestre, los temas a tratar con los niños, los módulos (por ejemplo: cultura, ciudadanía, salud, ecología, etc.), y el calendario de actividades. El proyecto cuenta ya con más de 20 voluntarios activos, el doble lo que había hace un año. “Niños en Movimiento” se considera un referente dentro de Hillel debido al gran éxito que ha tenido y al constante crecimiento del mismo.

Fabi Kaczelnik is 29 years old. She was born in Rio de Janeiro to a Jewish father and a non-Jewish mother. She always studied in a Jewish school because even though her mother is not Jewish, she always insisted that their children receive a Jewish education. Fabi was a member of Habonim Dror from ages 10 to 17. She graduated in marketing and fashion and currently works in the fashion industry. Fabi was disconnected from the Jewish community for a long time because she did not identify with her Jewish peers, but in 2008 she decided to get involved with Hillel and the project, Children in Motion. Fabi is currently the most veteran volunteer of this project. In 2010, she participated in the Yad Vaed project and she is very proud of being part of such successful projects and for having reclaimed her Judaism that was dormant for so many years.

Innovative Work:

Fabiana has been active in Hillel in Rio de Janeiro since the beginning of 2008 and is currently one of the coordinators of the Children in Motion program. This is an informal educational project for children ages 6 to 14 in Copacabana. Activities are run every second Sunday with the objective of playing and learning. Every semester all volunteers meet over the weekend to chart the objectives of the whole semester, define the topics to be discussed with the children and specify the topics (for example, culture, citizenship, health, ecology). The project already has more than 20 active volunteers, that’s double than the number it had a year earlier. Children in Motion is considered a benchmark in Hillel due to its great success and continued growth.

La idea del proyecto de Gabriel es lograr el contacto con jóvenes árabes y musulmanes e invitarlos a cenar con la intención es crear vínculos humanos, para dar un “rostro humano” al conflicto, creando lazos humanos, que permitan la mejora del diálogo futuro sobre las cuestiones que nos preocupan. Las reuniones consisten en una cena en alguna casa pidiéndoles a los invitados que traigan la comida típica mediterránea. El resultado de esta experiencia ha sido increíble ya que se genera la mayor y más poderosa experiencia, que es el “contacto humano”. A veces, en lugar de desarrollar estrategias complejas, es mejor volver a las raíces... encontrarse, mirarse, escuchar... Estratégicamente, Gabriel y su equipo de trabajo creen que es una buena idea dejar los temas ásperos y difíciles de abordar para cuando ya se hayan desarrollado lazos de respeto y hermandad. La paz la hacen los hombres... uno por uno.

Gabriel Buznick is an Argentine lawyer with experience in diplomacy and business. His areas of specialization include capital markets, finance, banking and the financial sector. He works with national and international government agencies and considers himself an expert in teamwork and situation analysis. Creativity, determination and decision making are his greatest strengths. With regard to his Jewish experience, he has always played an active role in the life of the Jewish Argentine community, convinced that education and committed activism, together with the establishment of strong ties with other communities in the world, are the key to prospering Jewish communities and the preservation of Jewish identity.

Innovative Work:

Gabriel’s project brings young Arabs and Jews together for meals to forge human ties, give a “human face” to the conflict and create human bonds to ultimately bring about successful dialogue between Jews and Arabs. The dinners rotate among people’s homes where participants bring Mediterranean cuisine dishes. The result of this experience has been incredible; it has generated the largest and most powerful experience: human contact. Sometimes, rather than develop complex strategies, it is better to return to the roots: find each other, look at each other, and listen to each other. Strategically, the project uses an approach that leaves the tough and difficult issues until after bonds of respect and brotherhood have been developed. Peace is made by men, one by one.

Johanne Altalef nació el 26 de marzo de 1990 en la Ciudad de Guatemala. Desde pequeña, fue al colegio judío Gan Hillel. En el 2008, Johanne se graduó del colegio, y se fue a Israel al programa de Hajshará. Estuvo en Israel durante ocho meses, y esta experiencia ha sido una de las mejores de su vida. Fue una experiencia inolvidable, llena de buenos recuerdos, amigos y momentos. En el 2010, Johanne entró a la Facultad de Arquitectura y Diseño, en la carrera de Diseño Gráfico en Publicidad y Comunicación en la Universidad del Istmo. Actualmente está terminando su segundo año de carrera universitaria.

Johanne se considera una persona creativa, que le gusta transmitir conceptos e ideas por medio de actividades diferentes y únicas. Además de haber trabajado en Macabi, actualmente Johanne trabaja como tutora de español para estudiantes estadounidenses de diversas universidades. Por medio de “skype dates”, logra ayudar a estos estudiantes con su español, y a la vez, conocer nuevas personas, culturas y pensamientos. Para Johanne este es un trabajo realmente gratificante, ya que ayuda a otros y a la vez siente que estas otras personas la ayudan a ella a crecer y conocer más.

Johanne Altalef was born in 1990 in Guatemala. Since childhood, she attended Gan Hillel Jewish Day School. In 2008, Johanne graduated from school and went to Israel for eight months to participate in the Hachshara program. These eight months proved to be the best of her life. It was an unforgettable experience full of good memories, friends and special moments. In 2010, Johanne began studying at the University of the Isthmus to receive a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, advertising and communication from the architecture and design department. She is currently finishing her sophomore year.

Innovative Work:

Johanne is a creative person who likes to communicate concepts and ideas through unique and different activities. In addition to her work at Maccabi, Johanne currently works as a Spanish tutor for American students from various universities. Through Skype, she is able to help these students with their Spanish and at the same time, meet new people and connect to different cultures and ideas. For Johanne, this is really rewarding work since she helps others and learns and grows from them in return.

Later, he founded the David Hamelej Hasidic Musical Orchestra and the MUSICHOUSE music school. Jonathan is a founding member of the Latin Grammys, as well as an associate member of the American Grammys. In 2006, he went down a new path and formed Kuter Production Studios (kuter.com.mx), which produces radical, innovative and avant-garde marketing development production for companies such as HSBC, Sony Music, 7Up!, Pepsi, Televisa and the Red Cross, among others.

MUSIC-HOUSE is an independent music school located at the Maguén David Jewish Community Center. The music school has been offering courses in instrumental instruction, ensembles, bands and DJing to hundreds of students for more than eight years. MUSIC-HOUSE produces cultural events, festivals and concerts impacting hundreds of people every year. Jonathan also founded the David Hamelej Hasidic Musical Orchestra that merges contemporary music with ancestral compositions. En lo que comunidad judía se refiere, hace dos años con otra persona más venimos empujando el proyecto de hacer funcionar Hillel en Paraguay. La colectividad judía en Paraguay es muy pequeña y dispersa, por lo que su labor representa un verdadero desafío, el cual asumió dada la importancia de los fines que la comunidad persigue.

Innovative Work:

Regarding the Paraguayan Jewish community, since 2009, Jonathan, together with a partner, has been pushing for the creation of a Hillel in Paraguay. The Jewish community in Paraguay is very small and dispersed, which is why he faces some real challenges as he works on behalf of the needs of the community.

Joseph nace en la ciudad de Guatemala un 5 de diciembre de 1987. Su carrera musical inicia a la temprana edad de 8 años, cuando compone su primera canción. En noviembre de 2009, entra al estudio “AudioTrack”. Actualmente Joseph está grabando su primer material discográfico.

Joseph lleva siendo un socio activo de la comunidad desde pequeño. Desde janij hasta rosh ken en Macabi Hatzair. Forma parte de JUG, organización de jóvenes universitarios de la comunidad donde se realizan actividades tanto para la comunidad como para los jóvenes que la constituyen. Lleva dos años trabajando en Tarbut, dando clases a dos grupos, pre-curso y curso de madrijim. En la Guatemala hay muchos judíos que no participan en la comunidad. Joseph tiene como metas traer e incentivar a éstas personas a formar parte de la comunidad. Su trabajo es innovador porque el busca atraer a judíos “nuevos” a formar parte de su comunidad por medio de actividades atractivas e innovadoras.

Joseph Tenenbaum was born in Guatemala in 1987. His musical career began at the young age of 8 when he composed his first song. At age 10, he participated in the Festival of the Stars, where he was a finalist. Then, at age 12, he represented Guatemala on the program Songs of Hope in Minnesota, USA, for two months. Joseph graduated from the Colegio Monte Alto and spent seven months in Israel. His emotional separation from family and country inspired him to compose and to express his feelings. Joseph is currently attending the Universidad Francisco Marroquín where he is studying psychology. He intends to specialize in music therapy. His musical education led him to take formal classes of piano and guitar. In November 2009, he joined the AudioTrack music studio. Joseph is currently recording his first album.

Innovative Work:

Joseph has been an active member of his Jewish community from an early age - from chanich all the way to Rosh Ken of Maccabi Hatzair. He is part of CHUG, the organization for young Jewish university students. For the last couple of years he has also worked for Tarbut, teaching pre-course and madrichim training courses. In the Jewish community of Guatemala there are many Jews who are not involved. Joseph’s goals are to encourage those on the outskirts to be part of the community. His work is innovative because he is trying to attract “new” Jews to be part of his community through attractive and innovative activities.

Joy se graduó de HEC-París, clasificada como la mejor Escuela de Negocios en Europa. Antes de terminar sus estudios se fue a Nueva York para trabajar en Dexia donde adquirió conocimientos en finanzas, los cuales decidió aplicar a las organizaciones sin fines de lucro. Mientras estudiaba, Joy creó y gestionó muchos proyectos sociales dirigidos directamente a Israel. Joy también ayudó a desarrollar Acceder, una organización que permite a cualquier judío ayudar a otro judío en cualquier parte del mundo prestándole una pequeña cantidad de dinero y que fue diseñado para llegar a implicar a los jóvenes en la ayuda social judía mundial. Después de estudiar un MBA en la universidad de Tel Aviv, hizo aliá. Joy se encargó de crear y de supervisar el desarrollo del programa Gvahim Young Leaders – dedicado a los estudiantes y graduados que quieren hacer prácticas de alta calidad en Israel.

Trabajo Innovador:

Como parte de sus estudios en HEC, Joy tuvo que hacer una práctica durante el verano con el fin de cumplir con sus obligaciones académicas. Entonces Joy tuvo la idea de organizar una misión humanitaria en Israel para estudiantes. Se reunió con los principales líderes de la Comunidad judía francesa para pedir consejo y para involucrarlos en el proyecto. Después de meses de duro trabajo, contactó a organizaciones como Yad-Sarah, Livnot, KKL, Karen Rashi y les propuso que integrarán a sus estudiantes a la misión durante dos meses. El mayor orgullo de Joy fue lograr obtener fondos suficientes para que el programa y sus actividades fueran gratuitos para los estudiantes. La mitad de la gente trabajó de Jerusalem –que es el centro de ayuda social judía –y la otra mitad fue a trabajar en el norte del país, en las postrimerías de la Guerra del Líbano.

Joy Galam graduated from HEC-Paris, considered the best business school in Europe. Before finishing her studies she moved to New York to work at Dexia, a financial services group, where she acquired knowledge in finance and decided to focus this new knowledge to help nonprofit organizations. As a student, Joy created and organized many Israel-related social projects. She also helped develop Acceder, an organization that enables any Jew to help another Jew anywhere in the world by providing small sums of money. This organization was designed to engage young people in the world of Jewish social aid. After receiving an MBA from the University of Tel Aviv, Joy made aliyah. She was in charge of creating and overseeing the development of the Gvahim Young Leaders program dedicated to students and graduates who are seeking high quality employment in Israel.

Innovative Work:

As part of her studies at HEC, Joy was required to commit some of her summer to a socially responsible project. Joy then had the idea of organizing a humanitarian mission to Israel for students. She met with the leaders of the French Jewish community to seek advice and to involve them in the project. After months of hard work, she contacted organizations such as Yad Sarah, Livnot, KKL and Karen Rashi and proposed that they integrate their students into the mission for two months. The greatest pride for Joy was obtaining sufficient funds to ensure that the program and its activities were free of charge for the students. Half the people worked in Jerusalem, which is a central hub for Jewish social aid, and the other half worked in the North of the country in the aftermath of the Lebanon War.

Julie creció en Suiza. Ha viajado mucho y tuvo la posibilidad de vivir en varios lugares, incluyendo Beijing, Nueva York, Hawaii y Republica Dominicana. Estas experiencias fueron muy importantes para la educación y el desarrollo de Julie. Aprendió a comunicarse con personas de lugares, culturas e idiomas diferentes. Después de obtener su licenciatura en Educación Especial de la Universidad de Ginebra, Julie siguió estudiando Educación Internacional y comunicación entre culturas en New York University donde logró obtener su Maestría. Julie tiene un interés particular por las tradiciones de la comunidad Judía de Etiopia, por lo que su pasión la llevo a Jerusalem en donde realizó una investigación sobre la integración de los etíopes judíos y los cambios de identidad que han sufrido. En el año 2009, Julie decidió irse a vivir a Israel e hizo aliá. Tuvo la oportunidad de unirse al grupo de Tebeka, ayudando a la comunidad etíope de Israel.

Trabajo Innovador:

Después de hacer un voluntariado durante seis meses en República Dominicana, Julie se dio cuenta de que quería dedicar su trabajo a fortalecer a las comunidades marginadas. Desde hace un poco más de un año, Julie está trabajando en Tebeka, un proyecto para la defensa de la igualdad y la justicia de los etíopes israelíes. Tebeka es la única organización que ofrece asistencia jurídica gratuita a la comunidad desde la comunidad: su fundador es el primer israelí de Etiopía en obtener una licenciatura en derecho y sus empleados son en su mayoría etíopes. El rol de Julie en Tebeka es doble: (1) Encontrar formas innovadoras para aumentar la conciencia sobre los desafíos que aún enfrenta la comunidad etíope en la actualidad y (2) recaudar fondos para apoyar la importante labor de la organización; esto incluye la organización de campañas y el reto de convencer a los demás de que ellos también deben preocuparse por esta comunidad.

Biography:

Julie Ariella Wyler grew up in Switzerland. She has traveled much and had the opportunity to live in various places, including Beijing, New York, Hawaii and the Dominican Republic. These experiences were very important for Julie’s education and development. She learned to communicate with people from different places, cultures and languages. After earning her bachelor’s degree in special education from the University of Geneva, Julie received a master’s in international education and cross-cultural communication from New York University. That was where she discovered the compelling narrative of the Ethiopian Jews. Her interest in this community, its traditions and its dream of reaching Jerusalem, led her to focus her research on the integration of Ethiopian Jews in Israel and the identity changes they underwent. Out of a similar yearning for Zion, Julie made aliyah in 2009 and was overjoyed to join Tebeka’s team, helping serve the complex needs of the Ethiopian Israeli community.

Innovative Work:

After volunteering for six months in the Dominican Republic, Julie realized that she wanted to devote herself to empowering marginalized communities. A little more than one year ago, Julie started working at Tebeka, an organization that works to promote equality and justice for Ethiopian Israelis. Tebeka is the only organization that offers free legal assistance to the community from within the community: its founder is the first Ethiopian Israeli to receive a law degree and its employees are mostly Ethiopian. Julie’s role in Tebeka is twofold: to find innovative ways to raise awareness about the challenges still facing the Ethiopian community today and to raise funds to support the important work of the organization.

En su vida profesional Karen trabaja en organizaciones públicas y organizaciones de la sociedad civil, en el área de los derechos humanos principalmente en temas referidos a la salud, discapacidad, infancia e igualdad de género. Para Karen los espacios de intercambio con otras personas de otros países contribuyen a la concreción de proyectos y a la realización de los mismos y sirven como insumo para crear proyectos a nivel regional o para el apoyo de proyectos existentes. Desde muy joven Karen está vinculada con los proyectos de la comunidad judía y trabaja en distintos espacios a nivel social y político que permiten aunar esfuerzos para tratar de mejorar la calidad de vida de muchas personas y hacer de la sociedad en que vivimos una sociedad más justa, tolerante e igualitaria. Ha participado en múltiples seminarios del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Israel y del Congreso Judío Latinoamericano.

Trabajo Innovador:

Karen trabaja en un proyecto que se llama SHOA – Memoria y Legado del Holocausto, que tiene como objetivo acercar a los jóvenes judíos y no judíos a la historia del holocausto y su legado. El proyecto tiene como ejes centrales la reflexión en cuanto a la responsabilidad individual y colectiva, el fomento al respeto de los derechos humanos y a la diversidad, y la lucha contra la discriminación. La metodología consta de una actividad educativa en todos los liceos de Montevideo a estudiantes de entre 15 y 16 años. La respuesta en general ha sido muy positiva tendiendo puentes entre el mundo judío y el no judío, y generando espacios de intercambio que acercan y contribuyen al rompimiento de ciertos estereotipos y prejuicios.

Biography:

In her professional life, Karen Sass works in the area of human rights on issues relating to health, disability, children and gender equality for public and civic organizations. For Karen, having the opportunity to participate in exchanges with people from other countries contributes both to the improvement of current projects and serves as fodder for the creation and realization of new projects. Karen has been involved with Jewish communal projects for a long time. She works on different projects at the social and political levels that work towards improving the quality of life for many people and making society a more tolerant, fair and egalitarian place. Karen has participated in many seminars run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel and the Latin American Jewish Congress.

Innovative Work:

Karen’s project, SHOAH - memory and legacy of the Holocaust, aims to bring young Jews and non-Jews closer to the history of the Holocaust and its legacy. The project’s central goals are: reflection by the individual and collective responsibility, promoting respect for human rights and diversity and fighting discrimination. The methodology consists of an educational activity in all schools in Montevideo for students between the ages of 15 and 16. The response has generally been very positive as the project is building bridges between Jews and non-Jews and generates spaces of exchange to bring people closer together and to contribute to dismantling stereotypes and prejudices.

Leonardo estudió Ingeniería Eléctrica en la Pontificia Universidad Católica do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, y tiene una maestría en Ingeniería de Comunicación por el Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Aplicadas de Toulouse, Francia. Él ha estado trabajando para el mercado inmobiliario desde 2005 en las áreas financieras y comerciales. Hoy en día, trabaja para Fapes-BNDES, uno de los diez mayores fondos de pensiones en Brasil. Como voluntario, trabaja en el Hillel Business Club de Río de Janeiro desde diciembre de 2008, en donde creó y coordinó el proyecto “Ciclo MBA”. Recientemente Leonardo se convirtió en miembro de la Student Board de Hillel Rio. Antes de la Universidad, Leonardo fue madrij en Bnei Akiva de Río de Janeiro entre 2000 y 2002 y estudió en el Colegio Talmud Torá Hertzilia, una escuela judía en Rio de Janeiro. El “Ciclo MBA” de Hillel Rio es un proyecto innovador que se propone crear una red de contactos profesionales entre los jóvenes de la comunidad judía. El proyecto consiste en una serie de conferencias cuyos temas se enfocan en la excelencia de programas de MBA en Brasil y en el resto del mundo. La idea es que cada charla se basa en casos concretos de mercado, lo que estimula a los participantes a debatir y absorber mejor los conceptos presentados. El hecho de que el proyecto es de mediano a largo plazo, facilita la integración de los participantes. Las conferencias se han convertido una oportunidad para que la gente pueda discutir temas de actualidad con colegas e intercambiar experiencias. Además de ser un concepto innovador, el “Ciclo MBA” es un proyecto económicamente sostenible en el que todos los participantes contribuyen con una cantidad económica que cubre por completo los costos del proyecto.

Biography:

Leonardo Shor studied electrical engineering at the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and has a master’s degree in communications engineering from the National Institute of Applied Sciences in Toulouse, France. He has been working in the real estate market since 2005 in the financial and commercial areas. Today, he works for FapesBNDES, one of the ten largest pension funds in Brazil. Since December 2008, Leonardo has volunteered at the Hillel Business Club of Rio de Janeiro where he created and coordinated the project, MBA Cycle. He recently became a member of the Student Board of Hillel Rio. Before attending University, Leonardo was a madrich in Bnei Akiva. He also attended the Talmud Torah Hertzilia School, a Jewish school in Rio de Janeiro. Leonardo is 27 years old, lives in Rio with his parents and is very proud of being Jewish.

Innovative Work:

The MBA Cycle program of Hillel Rio is an innovative project whose purpose is to establish a network of professional contacts between young people in the Jewish community. The project consists of a series of conferences focused on excellence in MBA programs in Brazil and the rest of the world. The idea is that each conference is based on specific market cases that encourage participants to better discuss and absorb current concepts. The conferences have become a chance for people to discuss topical issues with colleagues and network. In addition to being an innovative concept, the MBA Cycle program is economically sustainable since the participants’ entrance fee covers the costs of the project.

Nació en la Ciudad de México. Desde que su memoria le permite recordar, a ella le gusta entender cómo es que pueden existir cosas tan hermosas como la música o la poesía, que descansan sobre otras tan complejas como los seres humanos y la forma en que se relacionan. Trabaja coordinando proyectos sociales, educativos y culturales para jóvenes, en el Centro Deportivo Israelita, institución que agrupa a la mayor parte de los sectores judíos comunitarios de su país. También escribe sobre adicciones en una organización dedicada a su prevención y tratamiento. Trata de proponer y colaborar en otros proyectos y publicaciones dedicados a la difusión del arte, la reflexión y la cultura. El motivo principal que la motivó a inscribirse a ROI, fue el deseo de conocer y compartir ideas con otros jóvenes del mundo, que estén proponiendo diversas formas de vivir y entender el judaísmo. Querer escuchar, aprender, vincularse y crear.

Trabajo Innovador:

El problema principal que Linda ha detectado es la segregación dentro de los propios sectores de la comunidad judía de México, así como la falta de identificación de los jóvenes con las instituciones judías locales. Desde que comenzó a trabajar en el comité de la Juventud del Centro Deportivo Israelita, adoptó una nueva forma de trabajo: No son los adultos quienes imponen a los jóvenes proyectos ni actividades, sino los jóvenes son quienes se acercan a proponer las ideas que más les apasionan y quieren llevar a cabo, aunque no sepan cómo hacerlo. Estas iniciativas pueden ir desde actividades artísticas hasta ecológicas, sociales, culturales o de cualquier tipo. Linda ha quedado sorprendida del éxito que su proyecto ha logrado alcanzar en tan poco tiempo. Ha podido desarrollar, junto con pequeños grupos de jóvenes, distintos proyectos que siguen en pie y cada vez caminan más sólidamente.

Biography:

Linda Bucay was born in Mexico City. Since as far back as she can remember, she has always loved the way things of beauty, such as music or poetry, influence human beings. She works as a coordinator of social, educational and cultural projects for young people at the Jewish Sports Center in Mexico, an organization that brings together many of the Jewish community sectors of her country. She also writes about issues of addiction for an organization dedicated to its prevention and treatment. She has collaborated on other projects and publications dedicated to the dissemination of art, thought and culture. The guiding principle that motivated her to apply to ROI was the desire to meet and share ideas with other young Jews in the world who are living and understanding Judaism in different ways. She wants to listen, learn, connect and create.

Innovative Work:

Linda has found that one of the main obstacles facing the Mexican Jewish community is the segregation within its own sectors, as well as a lack of identification among young people with local Jewish institutions. Since she began working on the youth committee of the Jewish Sports Center, Linda has adopted a methodology in which adults do not impose on the young people projects or activities, but rather the young people themselves propose ideas that they are passionate about and want to carry out, even if they do not know how to put them into practice. These initiatives run the gamut from artistic activities to ecological, social, cultural and more. Linda has been surprised at the success that her project has achieved in so little time. Together with small groups of young people, she has been able to develop different projects that are not only still standing, but are improving every day.

Loren nació en México, hace 27 años. Desde pequeña es muy inquieta e idealista, ella está segura de que este mundo puede ser mejor. Su familia es judía tradicionalista y a ella esto le enorgullece y al mismo tiempo la hace responsable; pues cree fielmente que su religión la incita y le exige ser mejor y hacer mejor. Por eso, desde pequeña se ha dedicado al trabajo voluntario, con la firme convicción de que es lo que más le gusta y lo que mejor sabe hacer. Tiene una Licenciatura en Historia del arte la cual le ayudó a tener una percepción del mundo más amplia y empática. Loren es fotógrafa y disfruta mucho estando detrás del lente, eso le da la capacidad de admirar la belleza que a veces nos pasa desapercibida. Además, participa en un programa de radio llamado “El Aleph”, donde se abordan temas relacionados con el judaísmo.

En México hay una idea, tanto fuera como dentro de la Comunidad judía, de que los judíos se ayudan sólo entre ellos. Por eso, hace aproximadamente un año, Loren tuvo la idea de investigar si esto era cierto. Para ello, reunió un equipo que comenzó a realizar entrevistas a judíos que trabajan voluntariamente por México. Al día de hoy han realizado 70 entrevistas. De cada entrevista escriben un artículo y están trabajando para sacar un libro donde saldrán publicados estos proyectos, con el fin último de invitar a la gente a que se una a ellos, o creen los suyos propios. El proyecto busca que la comunidad judía de México tome sobre sí la responsabilidad de hacer algo por el país que la ha recibido y dado una buena vida. El proyecto busca mover los corazones y las conciencias y crear un mundo más activo, más justo y más real.

Loren Michan was born in Mexico 27 years ago. Since childhood, she has been very restless and idealistic in her quest to make this world a better place. She comes from a traditional Jewish family and that makes her proud and at the same time makes her accountable because she believes that her religion forces her to be better and do better. Since her youth she has done volunteer work because of a firm conviction that it’s what she likes and what she does best. She has a bachelor’s degree in art history, which helped her develop a wider and more empathetic perception of the world. Loren is a photographer and she enjoys being behind the lens, which gives her the ability to admire the quiet beauty that sometimes slips by unnoticed. She also participates in a radio program called “The Aleph,” which features topics related to Judaism.

Innovative Work:

In Mexico, there is the conception, both outside and within the Jewish community that Mexican Jews only help other Jews. That is why about a year ago Loren had the idea to investigate if this was true. To this end, she put together a team that began to conduct interviews with Jews who work as volunteers in Mexico. So far they have done 70 interviews. For each interview, they write an article and they are working to publish a book presenting all the projects with the ultimate goal of encouraging people to join one of the projects or to create one of their own. The project seeks to convince the Mexican Jewish community to take upon itself the responsibility of doing something for the country, which has given Jews a good life. Mariana nació en Buenos Aires en Agosto de 1977, hija mayor de una joven pareja que se había conocido en Israel, como voluntarios durante la guerra de Iom Kipur. Desde muy pequeña disfrutó del ámbito comunitario. Fue madrija en Macabi, Hacoaj, Plan Tapuz y Taglit, siempre con la idea de transmitir la pasión por la identidad judía. Sus estudios secundarios lo realizó en ORT. Después estudió antropóloga ya que le interesa la diversidad del hombre y las culturas, y a la vez todas las cosas que unen a unos con otros como seres humanos. Le gusta hacer cosas por los demás, por eso fue voluntaria en diversos proyectos, entre ellos en Hillel, donde pudo convertir su pasión en su carrera profesional, desde hace ya 7 años. Hace 10 meses nació su primer hijo, Elian, que la llena de energía y más que nunca la hace pensar en el futuro.

Como directora de Hillel en Buenos Aires dedica su día a día a pensar en oportunidades para los jóvenes. Oportunidades para que puedan desarrollarse como profesionales, como personas y -ligados desde donde cada uno lo elija-con el Judaísmo. Da apoyo a la actual generación de líderes, brindándoles capacitación y apertura a una gran red de contactos profesionales. Apoya en la generación de proyectos de voluntariado donde los jóvenes puedan desarrollar su perfil altruista, con la vista puesta en “Tikkun Olam” y los valores de Tzedek. Este grupo de jóvenes líderes alienta un mayor crecimiento, a través del reclutamiento y la participación de nuevos miembros donde el liderazgo es compartido. Mariana Litvin was born in Buenos Aires in August, 1977. She is the eldest daughter of a couple who met in Israel, where they were volunteers during the Yom Kippur war. Mariana has always enjoyed being part of the Jewish Community. She was a madricha for Maccabi, Hakoach, Tapuz and Taglit, where she eagerly worked to strengthen Jewish identity. Mariana studied high school at ORT and she went on to study anthropology, pursuing her interest in humanity, cultural diversity and all things that are common between and connect human beings. Mariana enjoys doing things for others and that is why she has volunteered for various projects, including at Hillel, where she was able to transform her passion into a career for the past seven years. Ten Months ago her first son, Elian, was born. He fills her with energy and, more than ever before, makes her think about the future.

Innovative Work:

As Director of Hillel in Buenos Aires, Mariana dedicates her day-to-day to thinking about opportunities that will develop young people as professionals and as individuals, and to connecting such development to Judaism. She gives support to the current generation of leaders, providing them with training and with access to a large network of professional contacts. She supports this generation in volunteering for projects so young people can develop their altruistic profile, with an eye for Tikkun Olam and the values of Tzedek. This group of young leaders fosters growth, through the recruitment and inclusion of new members, where leadership is shared. Mariana is convinced that people cannot totally separate their professional lives from their Jewishness, as they experience aspects of both in each realm and this is what she wants to convey to future generations.

Mark Daniel Blanc es cocinero, publicista, bloguero y payaso. Ha vivido en distintas ciudades del mundo estudiando, trabajando y viajando, absorbiendo así nuevos valores y conceptos. Considera que conocer distintos idiomas es fundamental para tender puentes tanto a nivel personal, cultural y empresarial. Mark ha realizado labores diversas en el campo agrícola, administrativo, musical, gastronómico, artístico y gerencial. Mark piensa en el futuro pero siempre consolidando el presente, sin ataduras ni prejuicios, levando como bandera la libertad. Ha constituido su propia empresa encargándose absolutamente de todas las áreas, para poder conocer el negocio en cada rincón y poder llevarlo así al lugar deseado. En la etapa que comprende entre que los jóvenes se desvinculan del movimiento juvenil, y hasta que vuelven al seno comunitario con el matrimonio, existe una brecha crítica en donde no es fácil encontrar un marco comunitario. Es precisamente ese el reto que Mark quiere abordar. Es así que Mark y la institución para la que colabora tratan de ofrecerle a esta juventud espacios cotidianos, con los que se sientan cómodos y que a su vez ofrezcan contenidos que no quieran rechazar a priori. Es así que organizan fiestas de Yom Haatzmaut, y proyectan actividades como cine y cerveza, tratando siempre de ofrecer algún contenido sionista. Mark sigue en la búsqueda constate de propuestas atractivas en innovadoras para que los jóvenes no se alejen de la vida comunitaria y que encuentren alternativas interesantes dentro un marco muy pequeño y muchas veces difícil y complicado.

Mark Daniel Blanc is a chef, publisher, blogger and clown. He has lived in a variety of cities around the world studying, working and traveling, all the while absorbing new values and concepts. He believes that knowing several languages is essential to bridging cultural, business and personal gaps. Mark has worked in the field of agriculture, administration, music, culinary cuisine, arts and management. He started his own business where he oversaw all areas, which enabled him to know every aspect of the business to ultimately take it to the desired level. Mark is a member of the local Zionist Federation where he tries to instigate change at the community level and to support initiatives that contribute to strengthening the younger generation’s values and connection to Eretz Israel.

Innovative Work:

There is a crucial gap between when young Jews graduate from the youth movement and when they marry and re-join the community in which the Jewish communal framework is noticeably absent. It is precisely this gap that has become Mark’s challenge. Mark and the institution for which he works are attempting to offer a comfortable space to these young Jews that also gives them Jewish content that they do not reject a priori. This is done through offering fun activities, like Yom Haatzmaut celebrations and movie and beer nights, that are also subtly infused with Zionist content. Mark remains committed to finding attractive and innovative ways to ensure that young people do not stray from Jewish communal life by offering them interesting alternatives in a very small and often challenging Jewish communal framework.

Bluehealth es la primer empresa Argentina dedicada a brindar soluciones mHealth para la región latinoamericana. ¿Qué es mHealth? Es un nuevo concepto mundial que abarca todo lo relacionado con la medicina y salud pública a través de dispositivos móviles y/o inalámbricos. Existen aplicaciones móviles de todo tipo, desde la entrega de información médica a pacientes, doctores e investigadores hasta la provisión directa de atención médica. Lo más interesante de este proyecto es que tiene su faceta social y que está teniendo alto impacto a nivel mundial en los sectores más pobres. En países en vías de desarrollo en donde el acceso a la salud es muy costoso y los recursos son escasos, el mobile-health es la única alternativa disponible para revertir esa preocupante situación, gracias a que cumple la función de soporte tecnológico de bajo costo y acceso masivo. El objetivo de Matías es poder desarrollar el concepto mHealth en todo Latinoamérica.

Matias Koretzky has always been a dreamer, innovator and entrepreneur. He is a natural born entrepreneur who, since a young age, has developed a wide variety of projects. He created a company that imports technological products that he sold over the Internet, becoming a leader in sales on the Mercado Libre website. Beyond this, Matias is in charge of international relations for the Business Club of the Hillel Foundation in Argentina where he has dedicated his time to reaching out to the best CEOs, economists and entrepreneurs across the country to give talks and participate in events that promote entrepreneurship and networking. Currently, he is founder and CEO of Bluehealth, the first Latin American company dedicated to developing the mHealth concept in the region and a winner of the BAITEC 2011 incubation contest run by the city of Buenos Aires.

Innovative Work:

Bluehealth is the first Argentinian company dedicated to providing mHealth solutions for the Latin American region. What is mHealth? It is a new global concept covering everything related to medicine and public health through mobile or wireless devices. This includes mobile applications that offer everything from the delivery of medical information to patients, doctors and researchers to the direct provision of health care. The interesting thing about this project is that it has social benefits as it will greatly impact the poorest sectors at the global level. In developing countries where access to healthcare is very costly and resources are scarce, mobile-health is a promising solution that can reverse this disturbing reality by offering mass access to health care via technology. Matias aims to develop the mHealth concept across Latin America.

Fue en el secundario que tuvo su primera oportunidad de ir a Israel, acoplándose como invitado al viaje de estudios del Colegio Hebreo, y desde esa experiencia empezó a sentirse verdaderamente responsable de hacer Hasbara y luchar contra la difamación que se hace sistemáticamente contra el pueblo Judío. Ese mismo año pudo asistir a la “Global Young Leaders Conference” en Washington representando a Chile. Desde Abril del 2011 cumple el rol de presidente de la Federación de Estudiantes Judíos en Chile, labor que se vuelve sumamente relevante debido a la ausencia que hubo por muchos años de una institucionalidad que le diera voz y representación a los jóvenes judíos en el país.

Trabajo Innovador:

El principal objetivo de la Federación de Estudiantes Judíos en Chile es activar en el ámbito universitario, desarrollando actividades cuyo fin esencial es la Hasbara, y que van desde foros, charlas y debates, hasta propuestas culturales e iniciativas de acción social. La importancia de esta nueva organización se debe a que es en las universidades donde los jóvenes, futuros profesionales, consolidan sus opiniones y visiones del mundo. Chile es el país con la mayor cantidad de palestinos fuera de los territorios de gaza y cisjordania, de manera que hay muchas iniciativas por parte de su comunidad para tratar de convencer a la población chilena de que Israel es un estado que no cumple con los acuerdos ni los derechos humanos. Es a esta situación a la que se busca responder, para que los palestinos chilenos dejen de convencer al público flotante que su discurso radical refleja la verdad.

Biography:

Maximiliano Grass was born in 1988 in Santiago, Chile. He received his undergraduate degree at the Santiago College and continued his secondary education at Lincoln International Academy. When he was in high school, he had his first chance to visit Israel on a school trip. From that experience he began to feel responsible to do hasbara and to fight against the defamation that is systematically focused against the Jewish people. That same year he was able to attend the Global Young Leaders Conference in Washington as a representative of Chile. Since April 2011, he has served as President of the Federation of Jewish students in Chile, a job which has taken on a more pressing role in the absence of a Jewish institutional framework in Chile that works to support and represent the Jewish youth of the country.

Innovative Work:

The main objective of the Federation of Jewish students in Chile is to activate Jewish youth at the university level, to develop activities whose essential purpose is hasbara, ranging from forums, talks and debates, and to create cultural programming and social action initiatives. The importance of this new organization is that it is based on university campuses where young people, future professionals, begin to form their views and visions of the world. Chile is the country with the greatest number of Palestinians outside the territories of Gaza and the West Bank. As a result there is an outspoken community trying to convince the Chilean population that Israel is a State that does not comply with agreements or human rights. It is in response to this that the Federation of Jewish students was created, that is, to show the general public that the radical views of Chilean Palestinians do not reflect the truth.

Melisa ha sido janijá, madrijá y rosh jinuj en Argentina, así como también madrijá de Taglit-Israel. Participó en la capacitación anual en Israel en el Majón le madrijim para líderes comunitarios. También ha viajado a la “Marcha por la vida” y ha participado en el curso Masbirim para capacitar sobre Shoá. Melisa fue seleccionada para realizar el prestigioso curso destinado a educadores de Latinoamérica sobre esta temática en Yad Vashem. Melisa ha sido honrada con la oportunidad de dictar su propio curso sobre holocausto en varias oportunidades en diversas instituciones educativas de la Argentina.

“Heme aquí” es una escuela de vida para personas con necesidades especiales que busca la integración a través del golf. Durante sus 12 años de trayectoria, se ha podido observar una gran evolución en los alumnos que asisten a la escuela, en sus familias y en las personas comunes que han tenido la posibilidad de conocerlos a través de las actividades integradas. Melisa ocupa el cargo de coordinadora general de la institución. El objetivo novedoso de la organización es considerar a la persona como un todo. Por ende, además de hacer hincapié en el aspecto físico se considera también el aspecto familiar y social. La novedosa metodología de “Heme Aquí”, que incluye la musicoterapia, ejercicios de concentración y coordinación, actividades sociales y torneos integrados, ha sido reproducida en diversas provincias de la Argentina así como también en Chile y Uruguay.

Melissa Mijal Goldfinger was born to a supportive and loving Jewish family in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is the youngest of three sisters, one of whom was born with Down syndrome. Early on her objective, along with her family’s, has been to bring about real social integration for persons with special needs. Melissa has been chanicha, madricha and rosh chinuch in the youth movement in Argentina, as well as a madricha for Taglit-Israel. She participated in the annual training of the Machon Lemadrichim for community leaders. She has also participated in March of the Living and was selected to participate in the prestigious course at Yad Vashem for Latin American educators to teach about the Shoah. Melissa has had the privilege of creating her own Holocaust course and presenting it on several occasions to various educational institutions in Argentina.

Innovative Work:

“Heme aquí” (“Here I Am”) is a school of life for people with special needs that seeks integration through golf. During its 12 years of existence, “Heme aquí” has greatly impacted the students who attended the school, their families and all the people who have had the chance of knowing them through integrated activities. Melisa holds the position of general coordinator of the institution. The new objective of the organization is to consider the person as a whole. Therefore, in addition to emphasizing the physical aspect, now it also takes into account the family and wider community. The innovative methodology of “Heme aquí”, which includes music therapy, exercises in concentration and coordination, social activities and integrated tournaments, has been reproduced in various provinces throughout Argentina, as well as in Chile and Uruguay.

Biography:

Natalie Gourvitch is an Israeli-American social entrepreneur dedicated to improving communication, understanding and relations between individuals and communities. She grew up in New York and since she was little has spent summers in Israel. This experience allowed her to understand the challenges involved in explaining the different realities of both cultures and how cultural differences may constitute an obstacle to mutual understanding. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, politics and economics from the University of Oxford, Natalie lived and traveled throughout South America where she shared many moments with Israelis and backpackers from all over the world, which inspired her to create TrailTalks – a nonprofit organization aimed at improving understanding and relations between Israelis and people of other nationalities. Today, Natalie is the Executive Director of TrailTalks, where she leads overall project strategy and vision.

Innovative Work:

TrailTalks seeks to provide Israeli young people with the skills, knowledge and motivation to communicate and connect more effectively with people from other cultures and to become active participants in the global community. More than 30,000 Israeli youth backpack abroad each year, often at the end of their military service, and they typically stay for months at a time. These journeys become a very important time for them to be independent and develop as people. However, other opportunities, such as connecting to the local culture, are often wasted when Israelis remain in closed Israeli circles. In this way, they become closed to opening themselves up to new cultures and perspectives. Nurit Meresman nació en Argentina, Buenos Aires en Mayo de 1977. Estudió en el Colegio Natan Gesang y en el Instituto Rambam. Al terminar ya sabía que su vocación era la música, el hebreo y el judaísmo. Fue Jazanit en algunas comunidades de Argentina y trabajó como morá de shirá en varios colegios. Se graduó de la Universidad de Buenos Aires como Licenciada en Psicología, carrera que actualmente le ayuda en su práctica diaria tanto en la escuela como en la comunidad. Recibió su título de Morá en el Instituto Abarbanel del Seminario Rabínico Latinoamericano. Hace poco más de ocho años reside en Panamá, donde se casó y tuvo dos hermosos hijos. Allí es morá del Colegio Isaac Rabin y Jazanit en la Sinagoga Kol Sheerith Israel. Tiene a su cargo el curso de Talmud Torá, el coro comunitario y las tefilot.

En el Colegio Isaac Rabin Nurit tiene a su cargo los cursos de judaísmo de secundaria, es un desafío ya que algunos de los alumnos no son de la colectividad judía. Es interesante poder transmitir el judaísmo tanto a niños judíos como a los que no lo son. En la Sinagoga Kol Sheerith Israel, tiene a su cargo el curso de Talmud Torá para todos aquellos niños y niñas que están en edad de Bar y Bat Mitzvá. Tiene también un proyecto con un pequeño grupo de adultos que participan cada semana en los rezos, especialmente en la lectura de la Torá. Nurit también tiene a su cargo el coro comunitario. Es un grupo de gente de la comunidad que se encarga de la mayoría de los rezos de los Iamim Noraim. Nurit piensa que su trabajo es innovador, ya que en esta comunidad pequeña de Panamá, es la primera vez que la comunidad participa activamente en tantos proyectos.

Nurit Meresman was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1977. She studied at the Natan Gesang School and the Rambam Institute. After graduation, she knew that music, Hebrew and Judaism were her vocation. Nurit was a chazanit for a few Jewish communities throughout Argentina and worked as a music teacher at several schools. Innovative Work:

Nurit is in charge of the Judaic studies courses for high school students at the Yitzchak Rabin School in Panama. Overseeing these courses is very challenging and interesting because not all of the students are Jewish. At the Kol Sheerith Israel synagogue, Nurit teaches a Talmud Torah course for all the Bar and Bat Mitzvah students. She also helps organize a weekly prayer group with a community of friends where she is responsible for the choir. This same group also runs High Holiday services. Nurit believes that her work is innovative because in a small Jewish community such as Panama’s, it is the first time that so many people in the community are so actively involved in so many projects.

Orly es una mujer de 32 años que estudió la licenciatura en comunicaciones en la Universidad Iberoamericana en la Ciudad de México. Siempre ha estado interesada en ayudar a mejorar la calidad de vida de muchos mexicanos que no han tenido la oportunidad de desarrollarse por falta de oportunidades o herramientas. En un principio trabajó en una agencia de publicidad pero se dio cuenta que no era lo que le satisfacía, luego comenzó a trabajar en el área editorial de distintas empresas y se dio cuenta de que a partir de los libros y las palabras se podían transformar vidas. A Orly le gusta el canto, el teatro, la radio y lleva a cabo estas actividades como forma de recreación. La gusta también estar involucrada en proyectos de beneficencia por lo que participa con el grupo de sobrevivientes del Holocausto en la Ciudad de México. Con ellos comparte una tarde al mes y reúne dinero para los que necesitan ayuda económica. También le gusta compartir tiempo con sus amigos y su familia.

Orly es una persona preocupada por el nivel de vida que tiene gran parte de la población de México por lo que desde septiembre de 2010, junto con dos amigos, está realizando una investigación sobre el quehacer altruista de miembros de la comunidad judía con proyectos de beneficencia hacia la población no judía de México, con el fin de que más personas se integren al trabajo social en beneficio de todos. Se realizará un libro en donde se integre toda esta información para inspirar e invitar a más gente a unirse. El objetivo principal de este trabajo, es involucrar a mas mexicanos en las filas de la ayuda social, pues existe gran rezago e ignorancia sobre los proyectos sociales que actualmente existen en México. Orly piensa que es parte de la responsabilidad humana ayudar a los demás a salir adelante, mejorar sus condiciones de vida y otorgar herramientas a quienes no han tenido las mismas oportunidades.

Orly Cohen is 32 years old. She received a B.A. in communications from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. She has always been interested in helping to improve the quality of life of Mexicans who have not had the opportunity to realize their potential due to lack of opportunities or resources. Initially, she worked in an advertising agency, but she soon realized that it did not satisfy her so she then started working in the editorial department of different companies. Through this work, Orly came to realize that by using books and words she could transform lives. In her spare time, Orly enjoys singing, theatre and radio. She also likes to be involved in charity projects, which is why she is involved with a group of Holocaust survivors in Mexico. She spends one afternoon a month with them and raises money for those who need financial aid. Orly also enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Innovative Work:

Orly is concerned about the low standard of living that grips the majority of the population of Mexico. Beginning in September 2010, together with two friends, she began conducting research on Jewish community projects that assist the non-Jewish population of Mexico, with the hope that more Jews will join social projects to help the needy. A book offering a comprehensive list of these projects is being compiled to inspire and invite more people to join. The main objective of this project is to engage more people to join social active initiatives to counteract the ignorance about social projects that currently exist in Mexico. Orly thinks that it is part of our responsibility as humans to help others succeed, improve their living conditions and give them the tools they need to overcome obstacles to live more meaningful lives.

Pablo siempre ha tenido el apoyo de toda su familia: padres, hermanos, esposa y sus hijos, y él siempre ha sabido mantener el equilibrio entre el voluntarismo y su desarrollo personal y profesional. Siempre ha sabido combinar sus estudios y trabajo profesional con el trabajo social y voluntario. El proyecto innovador más importante en el que ha estado involucrado es la creación de un departamento centralizado de seguridad, prevención e investigación de antisemitismo en la DAIA (Delegación de Asociaciones Israelíes-Argentina). Este departamento unifica toda la información que se recopila en relación con las actividades antisemitas. Actualmente participa en dos proyectos: en primer lugar, es diplomático judío en el Congreso Judío latinoamericano. Por otra parte, está involucrado con la Sra. Nava Rubenzadeh en sus proyectos filantrópicos en el Néguev, en Israel (por ejemplo el Centro de Ciencia para la Juventud Beit Ariel). Pablo Matias Escandarani hails from a non-religious, Sephardic family from Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is happily married and has two beautiful children. He has a degree in business administration and worked for several years as a business consultant. In 2005, he quit his job to develop a new business in the cosmetics and perfumery market. Pablo has a very supportive extended family and he has always known how to maintain the balance between volunteering and his personal and professional development. Pablo likes meeting and interacting with people from diverse origins, traditions, degrees of observance and ideologies. He recently returned from the 2011 Ministry of Foreign Affairs Seminar in Israel.

Innovative Work:

Pablo has always combined his studies and professional work with social action and volunteer work. The most important innovative project in which he has been involved is the creation of a centralized department of security, prevention and research in anti-Semitism in the DAIA (Israeli-Argentinean Associations Delegation). This department consolidates all of the information that is gathered regarding anti-Semitic activities. Beyond that, Pablo is a representative of the Latin American Jewish Congress. He also works with Nava Rubenzadeh on her philanthropic projects in the Negev, Israel, including the Beit Ariel Science Centre for Youth. Renato es licenciado en Pedagogía y licenciado en Filosofía. Como parte de su Maestría en Filosofía de la Ciencia desarrolló una tesis sobre la discusión en torno a la pedagogía como ciencia en la filosofía alemana del siglo XIX. Cuenta con una especialidad en Políticas Culturales y Gestión Cultural. Actualmente cursa el doctorado en Filosofía y está desarrollando la tesis “Traducción y educación en la filosofía de Martin Buber”. Entre sus intereses se encuentran la filosofía del lenguaje, filosofía judía y la historia de la filosofía en general. Recibió una beca para realizar una estancia de investigación en la Universidad Hebrea de Jerusalem. También ha realizado investigaciones relacionadas con el papel de los movimientos juveniles judíos en América. Renato ha sido asesor educativo en distintas instituciones como museos, escuelas, movimientos juveniles y festivales de danza en México y en otros países como Venezuela, Brasil, Argentina, Rusia e Israel.

Trabajo Innovador:

En distintos espacios de la comunidad judía de México, y de otros en América Latina, Renato se ha destacado por sus esfuerzos en buscar el lado humano (filosófico, si se quiere) que es el común denominador de lo que hacemos. Particularmente ha trabajado con los madrijim de las tnuot noar, trabajando en la noción de “educación” que se maneja dentro de este marco de educación no formal. Desde hace varios años ha sido el coordinador educativo del Festival Aviv de Danza Judía, evento central de la comunidad judía de México con participación de más de 1500 bailarines, 50 coreógrafos, 25 instituciones y 4000 espectadores. A través de una expresión artística no sólo el individuo puede llegar a ser mejor, sino el colectivo, pero esto sólo se puede lograr con un trabajo significativo. Tal vez la labor que mas motiva a Renato es justamente el trabajo con el judaísmo de la gente judía no religiosa.

Renato Huarte Cuéllar has degrees in pedagogy and philosophy. For his master’s degree in the philosophy of science, he wrote a thesis on pedagogy in 19th century German philosophy. He specialized in cultural policy and cultural management. Renato is currently pursuing a Ph.D. and his thesis is on, “Translation and education in the philosophy of Martin Buber.” His interests include philosophy of language, Jewish philosophy and the history of philosophy. Renato received a scholarship for a research project at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In addition, he has conducted research on the role of the Jewish youth movements in America. Renato has been an educational adviser for various institutions and events, such as, museums, schools, youth movements and dance festivals in Mexico and in other countries, including Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Russia and Israel.

Innovative Work:

Renato has been commended for his efforts to find the human side (philosophical, if you will), and the common denominator among the Mexican Jewish and other communities in Latin America. He has worked in informal education with madrichim from the youth movements. For several years, Renato has been the educational coordinator of the Aviv Jewish Dance Festival, a main event of the Jewish community in Mexico featuring over 1,500 dancers, 50 choreographers, 25 institutions and 4,000 spectators. Renato believes that both the individual and the collective stand to benefit from artistic expression, but this can only be achieved through meaningful work. Possibly the most motivating for Renato is working with non-religious Jews about Judaism.

Ricardo Szyfer está estudiando el último año de Ingeniería de Sistemas. Es profesor de Estructuras de Datos y Algoritmos en la Universidad ORT Uruguay, donde está estudiando su licenciatura. Fue electo por segunda vez consecutiva como representante estudiantil para el consejo académico de la Facultad de Ingeniería de la Universidad ORT, y fue aceptado en el “PresenTense Global Summer Institute 2011”, para desarrollar el emprendimiento social “Contá Conmigo”. Desde mayo 2010 hasta mayo 2011 trabajo en Domotec LTDA., desarrollando sistemas de Domótica (automatización y control de casas/edificios y oficinas) Sus hobbies son: Esquiar, fútbol, leer, electrónica, etc. Por último, y definitivamente no menos importante, Ricardo es miembro activo del grupo Hillel Tzedek, donde frecuentemente realiza actividades de servicio social e invita a otros miembros de la comunidad a que sean parte de las actividades.

Desde mediados de Junio, cuando comenzó el “PresenTense Global Summer Fellowship” Ricardo está trabajando en el proyecto “Contá Conmigo”. La misión: Contá Conmigo apuesta a una sociedad más solidaria, ofreciendo la oportunidad a todos para colaborar con proyectos de la manera más simple posible. Contá Conmigo ofrecerá una interfaz web que permita tanto a organizaciones como a personas publicar proyectos que de alguna manera ayuden a sus comunidades/ciudades/países. Los proyectos tendrán un presupuesto, cantidad de voluntarios necesarios y un lugar de discusión para que cualquier persona pueda colaborar con estos proyectos y se pueda involucrar con ellos en el nivel que quiera. Ya sea donando, registrándose como voluntario, o contribuyendo con ideas, contactando a la organización o persona con otras personas que puedan ayudar, entre otras. Hoy en día la mayoría de las organizaciones recurre a grupos reducidos de donantes y voluntarios, y este proyecto las habilitará a obtener mucha más exposición.

Biography:

Ricardo Szyfer is in his final year of a Systems Engineering degree. He teaches data structures and algorithms at ORT University in Uruguay, where he is pursuing his degree. He was elected for two consecutive terms to be a student representative of the academic council of the Faculty of Engineering of ORT University. Ricardo was also accepted as a 2011 Global PresenTense Summer Institute Fellow to develop the social entrepreneurship project “Contá Conmigo” (Count with me). From May 2010 to May 2011, he worked for Domotec Ltd. developing domotics systems (automation of home and housework activity). His hobbies include skiing, football, reading, electronics, and more. Last but definitely not least, Ricardo is an active member of the Hillel Tzedek group where he engages in social service activities and outreaches to the larger community to bring in more participants.

Innovative Work:

Since mid-June when he began working as a PresenTense Global Summer Fellow, Ricardo has been engaged with his project, “Contá Conmigo” (Count with me). The mission of Contá Conmigo is to ultimately create a more equitable, mutually supportive society through collaborative business projects. Contá Conmigo will provide a web interface that allows individuals and organizations to publicize their individual projects that in some way help their communities/ cities/countries. Each project displays its budget and the number of volunteers it needs. There is also space for people who are interested in getting involved with the project on a variety of levels to enter dialogue and interact. Whether through donations and funding, offering volunteer services or helping out with ideas, Contá Conmigo provides the forum for individuals and organizations to network and ascertain who can best assist them to make their projects a reality and to expose their ideas to a larger audience.

Roberta trabaja como voluntaria hace 10 años para la seguridad de la comunidad. Su trabajo profesional es a través del CONIB y la principal actividad que realiza es en conjunto con el departamento jurídico y busca sacar a los sitios antisemitas de Internet. A Roberta le interesa mucho estar en contacto con las comunidades judías de otros países, porque solamente así se puede saber qué es lo que sucede a nivel local en cada una de ellas. Los métodos que los dirigentes utilizan cuando hay conflictos o cuando es necesario dirigirse a la sociedad. Además para ella es importante entender las estrategias y la estructura de las comunidades de otras regiones. Para ella un encuentro como el de ROI le proporciona una oportunidad única para comprender mejor a otras comunidades.

Roberta Iavelberg studied social communication at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo. Since 2001, she has volunteered for the Israelite Federation of São Paulo and since 2010, for the New Generations project in Brazil. Since 2009, she has volunteered for the Organized Jewish Youth. In the professional field, Roberta works for the CONIB, a national Jewish organization that is involved with the Department of Safety.

Innovative Work:

For over ten years, Roberta has worked in the area of community security. Her professional work is for CONIB where, in conjunction with the Legal Department, she seeks to remove anti-Semitic websites from the Internet. Roberta wants to stay in contact with Jewish communities in other countries. She feels that only in this way can she get to know what is happening at the local level in each one of them, such as the methods that different community leaders use when there is a conflict or when it is necessary to address the general public. She is also interested in understanding the strategies and the structure of communities in other regions. The ROI gathering provides her with a unique opportunity to better understand other communities.

Ronit nació en Costa Rica en 1990. Desde pequeña asistió al único colegio judío de Costa Rica, el Instituto Weizman. Desde pequeña siempre fue muy activa, participó en Hanoar Hatzioní ayudando en muchas comisiones y con la Hanaga. Siempre fue a todos los majanot que le fueron posibles y también asistió a dos encuentros de Macabi en México y uno en Los Angeles. Además participó en los majonim intercontinentales Argentina, Ecuador y México. Cuando se graduó de quinto año en, el año 2008, fue a Shnat Hajshará. Hizo el programa de Megamot y luego trabajó en el Kibutz Jatzerim. Cuando regresó a Costa Rica colaboró con Hanoar Hatzioni por un año adicional y asistió al seminario de bogrim maniguim de Hanoar Hatzioni en Chile en 2009. Actualmente estudia Diseño del Espacio Interno en la Universidad Veritas y está prontamente a comenzar su tesis de graduación.

Costa Rica

Desde 2009 comenzaron en la comunidad un nuevo programa que se llama Beit Scopus. Este se encarga de atraer a todos los jóvenes universitarios de la comunidad que ya no tienen un marco en común para encontrarse. Desde entonces ha trabajado haciendo diferentes actividades de todo tipo en las que han llegado a tener hasta 120 participantes. Ronit es de las líderes de Beit Scopus y está muy comprometida con la organización. Le gustaría abrir las fronteras del proyecto para tener relación con otros países. Además ella cree que podrían ser ejemplo para otras comunidades que no poseen un marco como este. Además de Beit Scopus, Ronit quiere realizar su tesis proponiendo un espacio educativo en el Museo de Niños de Costa Rica dedicado al Holocausto. Esto lo considera un proyecto personal a trabajar durante este y el próximo año.

Biography:

Ronit Lang was born in Costa Rica in 1990. Since childhood, she attended the only Jewish school in Costa Rica, the Weizman Institute. Active in Jewish life, she has been involved in Hanoar Hatzioni since her youth in various capacities, including sitting on many committees. Ronit attended all youth movement camps and also participated in two Maccabi events in Mexico and one in Los Angeles. She also participated in the intercontinental machonim in Argentina, Ecuador and Mexico. After high school graduation in 2008, Ronit went to Israel for Shnat Hachshara. She participated in the Megamot program and then worked on Kibbutz Chatzirim. When she returned to Costa Rica, she was involved with Hanoar Hatzioni for an additional year and attended bogrim manhiguim of Hanoar Hatzioni in Chile in 2009. She is currently studying interior design at Veritas University and will soon begin working on her thesis.

Innovative Work:

Since 2009, The Costa Rican Jewish community launched a new program called Beit Scopus. This project seeks to attract all young, Jewish university students who would otherwise not be brought together in any organized way. Ronit has been involved with this organization since its inception in different capacities, including running a variety of activities that have drawn up to 120 participants. As one of the leaders of Beit Scopus, Ronit is highly committed to the organization. She would like to push the boundaries of the project even farther to forge relationships with other countries. She also believes that they can serve as an example for other communities that do not have a Jewish organizational framework set in place. In addition to Beit Scopus, Ronit wants to focus her thesis on proposing that the Costa Rican Children’s Museum dedicate some of its educational space to teaching about the Holocaust.

Samuel Dresel tiene 35 años y vive en Montevideo, Uruguay. Trabajó durante casi 10 años en Informática, para luego volcarse al trabajo profesional comunitario. Trabajó en la Kehila como coordinador del grupo de jóvenes universitarios. A la llegada de Hillel a Uruguay, se desempeñó en diferentes áreas como programación y ejecución de actividades, presidente de la unión de universitarios y representación de la institución en diferentes congresos. Fue director ejecutivo de la Comunidad Judía Alemana en Uruguay. Actualmente es miembro del comité organizador del lanzamiento de nuevas generaciones del CJL (Congreso Judío Latinoamericano) en Uruguay. A su vez es creador y director ejecutivo del proyecto Shoá que obtuvo el apoyo del gobierno nacional, de autoridades intelectuales y educativas.

El proyecto Shoa obtuvo el apoyo del gobierno nacional, de autoridades intelectuales y educativas, conformando un equipo interdisciplinario de profesionales para llevarlo adelante. La primera etapa de la exposición interactiva y educativa de 700 metros cuadrados tuvo lugar en 20082009 en una sala de exposición concedida por el gobierno de Uruguay. La exhibición fue visitada por más de 50.000 personas en Montevideo. Este emprendimiento significó un gran desafío para la comunidad uruguaya y marcó un precedente del alcance del activismo joven en la sociedad. El proyecto busca enviar un mensaje educativo, humanista, que permita reflexionar sobre las lecciones del pasado, y trabajar en la construcción de una sociedad más respetuosa de la diversidad y de las instituciones democráticas, contribuyendo a forjar un futuro mejor. Samuel ha creado una franquicia cultural para poder exportar este proyecto, donde venden su Know How y todo lo necesario para el montaje de la muestra en el exterior.

Biography:

Samuel Dresel is 35 years old and lives in Montevideo, Uruguay. He worked for nearly 10 years in computer science before deciding to dedicate his time to community work. He worked in the Jewish community as coordinator of a group of Jewish university students. When Hillel started operations in Uruguay, he was involved in various tasks such as running programs and activities and acting as President of the union of university students and representative of Hillel for different conferences. He was Executive Director of the Germanspeaking Jewish community in Uruguay. He is currently a member of the organizing committee for the launching of new generations of CJL (Latin American Jewish Congress) in Uruguay. At the same time, he is the Creator and Executive Director of the Shoah project, which has earned the support of the government and academic community.

Innovative Work:

The Shoah project is supported by the Uruguayan Government and leading educators and intellectuals who make up the interdisciplinary team of professionals committed to bringing it to fruition. The first stage of the interactive and educational exhibition that fills 700 square meters was held in 2008-2009 in a showroom provided by the Government of Uruguay. The exhibition was visited by over 50,000 people in Montevideo. This venture was a great challenge for the Uruguayan community and set a precedent for young activism in society. The project seeks to send an educational and humanist message to use the lessons of the past to help build a more respectful, democratic and diverse society and to forge a better future. Now a cultural franchise, the project is ready for being mounted and exhibited abroad.

A los pocos meses asumió la dirección del Departamento Internacional y Tzedek de Hillel Uruguay hasta diciembre de 2010. Stephanie Grunvald was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. She was an active member of the Socialist Zionist youth movement Hashomer Hatzair. At the age of 18, she spent almost a year in Israel where she volunteered and learned Hebrew on several kibbutzim. After returning to Uruguay, she worked as a groups and logistics coordinator for international programs for Hillel Uruguay. For a few months she took the helm of the International and Tzedek Department of Hillel Uruguay until December 2010. She is currently involved in the coordination of social programs such as “Leaves of testimony” together with Yad Vashem and Tzedek Hillel. In 2011, she joined the group of New Generations of the Latin American Jewish Congress. Stephanie received a degree in international relations from the University of the Republic and she is a teaching assistant for two undergraduate courses.

Innovative Work:

Stephanie is a regular participant in international conferences where she represents her community and institutions. Her activism in the Latin American Jewish Congress has allowed her to come into contact with important political figures from her country, including former Presidents, senators and journalists with whom she is expected to forge special relationships to benefit the Jewish community. Stephanie wishes to continue to be a link between the Jewish community and the community-at-large. Her work on university campuses is innovative because it offers a new way to look at the Jewish people, Israel, and others areas that have come under attack by leftwing extremists. Her contributions in the areas of international relations and international trade are often novel and important for a future with a better relationship with other communities.

A partir de 2011, Sumiko es estudiante del idioma Inglés en la escuela Abraham Lincoln. Además está estudiando en un curso de superación de locutores del ICRT. Sumiko es estudiante de tercer año de Estudios Socioculturales en la Universidad de La Habana. Del 2008 al 2009 Sumiko realizó estudios en habilitación de locutores y de animación en la locución en el Centro de Estudios de la Radio y la Televisión en la Habana. De 2006 a 2007 fue estudiante de pantomima en la Escuela Nacional de Arte.

Sumiko trabaja actualmente directamente con los jóvenes de la comunidad judía de Cuba, creando proyectos que los ayuden a crecer profesionalmente y que les permitan sentirse identificados y comprometidos con la comunidad. Biography:

Sumiko Ruiz Zayon has been studying English at the Abraham Lincoln School since the beginning of 2011. She is also studying an advance course for broadcasters and announcers at the ICRT. Sumiko is a junior majoring in socio-cultural studies at the University of Havana. Between 2008 and 2009, Sumiko studied a course on voice animation and announcer training at the Radio and Television Studies Center in Havana. In 2006 and 2007, she was a student of Pantomime at the National School of Art.

Innovative Work:

Sumiko currently works with the Jewish youth of Cuba by creating projects to help them grow professionally and to enhance their Jewish identity and commitment to the community. Currently, Sumiko is running a series of training courses for the madrichim with the aim of improving the work they carry out as informal educators. She is also a dancing teacher for the Jewish elderly. This project began recently and is already blossoming.

Nacido en la Argentina en plena recomposición democrática, Uriel desde joven desarrolló diversas inquietudes. Su inquietud permanente sobre el judaísmo hizo que estudiara en el Seminario Rabínico Latinoamericano para luego obtener una Maestría en Diversidad Cultural y Estudios Judaicos. Actualmente se encuentra desarrollando la tesis sobre las fuentes talmúdicas de la filosofía pragmática. Desarrolló su carrera profesional tanto en el ámbito de la Sociedad Civil y las organizaciones no gubernamentales como dentro de la comunidad judía. En el año 2006 creó el Programa Shagriria dedicado a que jóvenes judíos puedan viajar por foros internacionales para acercar el entendimiento de Israel por Latinoamérica. En Mayo de 2011 creó la Fundación Altneuland dedicada a promover desde el arte y la cultura el respeto por la diversidad cultural, y el entendimiento sobre el judaísmo por parte de la sociedad argentina.

Actualmente desde Alnteuland Uriel se encuentra liderando la realización de dos proyectos innovadores: (1) Ritmos Urbanos: que consiste en la creación de un clip musical mediante el envió masivo de videos por la web, en conjunto con Idan Raichel y un músico argentino famoso a confirmar; (2) Babel recorre la Argentina: este proyecto busca llevar una muestra de arte interactivo por toda la argentina, presentando la lectura del relato de Babel del pensador judío Ieshaiahu Leibowicz donde la diversidad de lenguas, no es un castigo, sino una bendición. Desde el 2006 se encuentra liderando el programa Shagriria. A partir de su primera participación en ROI en Israel, en el 2007 y luego en 2010, Uriel pudo fortalecer el desarrollo del programa. En 4 años se pudo pasar de una pequeña iniciativa personal a un programa que formó a más de doscientos jóvenes y que llegó a lugares tan difíciles para presentar Israel como Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia y Ecuador.

Biography:

Uriel Aiskovich was born in Argentina during the democratic recomposition. From a young age he experienced a feeling of restlessness regarding Judaism. This feeling drove him to study at the Latin American Rabbinic Seminar and then to obtain an M.A. in cultural diversity and Judaic studies. He is currently working on a thesis on Talmudic sources of pragmatic philosophy. Uriel developed his career in the field of civil society and non-governmental organizations within the Jewish community. In 2006, he created the Shagriria program dedicated to helping young Jews attend international forums that foster understanding about Israel to Latin America. In May 2011, he created the Altneuland Foundation dedicated to promoting, from an artistic and cultural view, respect for cultural diversity and understanding about Judaism to the Argentine society.

Innovative Work:

Currently, in conjunction with the Alnteuland Foundation, Uriel is leading two innovative projects. Urban Rhythms consists of the creation of a music clip that is sent as a massive video via the Internet. Artists participating in the project include the Israeli musician Idan Raichel and a famous Argentine musician yet to be confirmed. The second project, Babel Travels through Argentina, seeks to bring a sample of interactive art throughout Argentina through the reading of the story of Babel by Jewish thinker, Yeshayahu Leibowitz. Since 2006, Uriel has led the Shagriria program, which he has strengthened through his involvement in the ROI Community. In four years the project has been transformed from a small, personal initiative to a program that has trained more than 200 young people and has been able to present Israel in challenging places such as Cuba, Bolivia, Venezuela and Ecuador.

Viviana tiene años 22 años, está cursando el último semestre de la Licenciatura en Psicología en la Universidad Católica del Uruguay y actualmente es la encargada de programación de Hillel Uruguay. En el año 2007 realizó un año de Hajshará en Israel donde fue elegida para participar del plan en el Majón le Madrijm cuyo cometido es formar líderes comunitarios con el fin que puedan influir en sus comunidades al retornar a las mismas. Durante este programa realizó un programa educativo para su movimiento juvenil judío sionista. Al volver a Uruguay integró la comisión educativa del movimiento juvenil siendo encargada de dos grupos de madrijim. En el año 2011 realizó una pasantía por dos meses en el grupo para personas con discapacidad de la Comunidad Israelita del Uruguay.

Trabajo Innovador:

Hillel Business Club es un proyecto dirigido a jóvenes entre 18 y 30 años que estudian o son egresados de las carreras de Contador Público, Economía y Administración de Empresas, así como a personas que presentan interés por ser emprendedores y por los negocios en general. Es un proyecto que se va a desarrollar a lo largo de todo el año donde se llevarán a cabo diferentes actividades con excelentes y reconocidos profesionales, tanto a nivel nacional como internacional. El objetivo del proyecto es atraer jóvenes judíos desde sus respectivas áreas de interés a efectos de crear un nuevo liderazgo comunitario basado en valores judíos. El papel específico de Viviana es co-liderar la operación del proyecto. Es la primera vez que en Uruguay se realiza este proyecto en forma organizada, sistematizando los procedimientos y manuales de funcionamiento del mismo, para lograr que trascienda.

Biography:

Viviana Cibulis is 22 years old. She is currently completing her final semester for a bachelor’s degree in psychology at the Catholic University of Uruguay. She is also in charge of the programming department at Hillel Uruguay. In 2007, she went to Israel for a year where she was chosen to participate in the Machon Lemadrichim (Institute for Leaders from Abroad) whose mission is to train community leaders so they can influence their home communities upon their return. During this program, Viviana focused on developing an educational program for the Zionist Jewish youth movement in Uruguay. After she returned to Uruguay she integrated the Education Commission of the youth movement that is responsible for two groups of madrichim. In 2011, she interned for two months with a group of people with disabilities from the Israelite community of Uruguay.

Innovative Work:

The Hillel Business Club is a project for young people between the ages of 18 and 30 who are students or who work in the fields of public accounting, economics and business administration, or who are interested in entrepreneurship and business. It is a one-year project in which various activities will be carried out together with local and internationally recognized professionals. The project aims to attract young Jews from their respective areas of interest for the purpose of creating a new community leadership based on Jewish values. Viviana co-leads the operations of the project that for the first time ever is being organized in a systematic way with procedures and manuals of operation to ensure its success.

El Centro Mitrani de atención para la tercera edad en Cuba se encuentra en La Habana, donde la mayoría de los ancianos judíos viven, y se alojará en el Centro Sefardí. Es importante mencionar que la comunidad judía cubana tiene un alto porcentaje de personas mayores con recursos extremadamente limitados. Hay un número limitado de servicios sociales disponibles para ellos, que tienen bajos ingresos debido a su pequeña pensión, y sus redes de apoyo son inexistentes o muy frágiles, dado que muchos de sus hijos e hijas u otros familiares han salido de Cuba, y los que quedan también están luchando por subsistir. Biography:

William Miller has over 12 years of experience implementing short and long-term organizational health and education plans for the Jewish Cuban community. He has also overseen the budget for major community projects and medical and humanitarian programs for select Jewish communities throughout Cuba. Beyond this, he has been responsible for developing relationships with other community-based and inter-religious groups, as well as partnerships with UIA Federations in Canada and the Jewish Agency for Israel, mainly in the area of educational exchange programs. William has been a supervisor for both Birthright Israel and March of the Living trips. He is also the general coordinator for Masa Israel for the Cuban Jewish Community. William was appointed chairman of the Cuban Jewish Community Centennial Committee and served as the chairman of both the first and second National Leadership Training Seminar of the Cuban Jewish Community.

Innovative Work:

The Mitrani Cuban Senior Center will be housed in the Sephardic Center in Havana, Cuba, where the majority of Jewish seniors live. This senior center is an important addition to the Jewish community, which is made up of a high percentage of elderly people with limited resources. These seniors are struggling to survive on very small pensions and limited social services and they are often isolated and alone since many of their children and other relatives have left Cuba. As such, the Mitrani Senior Center will be open to all those from the Jewish community who qualify, as well as to several non-Jewish seniors. Besides providing services to this special population, the center will serve as a reference center for other Jewish communities across Cuba.

También dio forma funcional al proyecto de Bolsa de Trabajo Comunitaria, para que operara de la manera más simple y automatizada posible aprovechando el acceso generalizado a Internet del que gozan la mayoría de solicitantes de empleo en la comunidad y las empresas que pueden proveerlos. Biography:

William Portnoi is an engineer-economist by profession, an innovator by vocation and an artist in his soul. He enjoys solving complex problems creatively and designing practical solutions for today’s technological advancements. Currently, he offers consulting services in marketing for companies and projects that run the spectrum from advertising and real estate to tourism. At the same time, he provides support to various committees of the Jewish community in Peru, such as the development of the community’s job vacancies project and the development of youth activities. William worked for six years in the USA and also spent time in Israel and other countries. These experiences have helped to enrich his appreciation for culture and diversity.

Innovative Work:

William shares many of the concerns of our leaders as he works to support his community. One of the concerns of his Peruvian community is to bring the youth together for networking opportunities. That is why he has organized social and recreational activities for local Jewish youth. William has also helped make the Jewish community’s employment project more streamlined and up-to-date so that both those seeking work and companies looking for employers have an easy, online way to connect with one another. This is a groundbreaking project because it uses initiatives that are new for the local Jewish community. It also enables William to offer practical support to innovative projects that emphasize sustainability and saving resources.

As the Director of Gatherings and Recruitment for ROI, Beto Maya is responsible for summit selection, programming, regional gatherings and more. Born in Mexico City, Beto was very active in the Zionist youth movement, Dor Chadash. After making aliyah in 1993, Beto developed Zionist Education and Leadership programming in many different frameworks. Upon completion of his Bachelor of Education Degree from the Beit Berl College in Informal Education and Israel Studies, Beto worked in the Hagshama Department of the World Zionist Organization. Beto was then sent to Mexico City as a shaliach for the Jewish Agency for Israel and returned to Israel after three years. Before joining the ROI team, Beto was the Education Coordinator of the Herzl Museum. Beto currently resides in Modi’in with Liora (wife), Tamar, Yael and Michal (daughters) and his two dogs Kranky and Pushke. He misses real Mexican food and he truly loves the San Diego Padres.

Before joining ROI, No’a worked on developing partnerships at the Rashi Foundation.

Elissa Krycer is the Community Manager for ROI. Elissa joined the ROI Community in February 2011 as a content writer. Elissa’s role at ROI expanded as she learnt the ropes for the ROI website and with regards to communications in general. Elissa grew up in Australia as an active member of the Zionist youth groups where in 2001 she became the State Director for Bnei Akiva Victoria, and graduated from Monash University with bachelor degrees in law and commerce. In 2006, within days of making aliyah, Elissa started on the tests, stage and bar exams which led her to qualify as an Israeli lawyer. After gaining experience in a commercial Tel Aviv law firm and a Jerusalem-based British law firm, Elissa took the next most logical step - and went into non-profit. Elissa has also worked in international relations at Keren Kayemeth L’Yisrael. Although Elissa led a Taglit-Birthright program back in 2003, she still enjoys the Birthright atmosphere on many Fridays throughout the year as she shops for last minute Shabbat supplies at Jerusalem’s Machane Yehuda market, opposite her home in Nachlaot.

Jimmy es el Director Ejecutivo Nacional de ORT México. Es responsable de definir e implementar la estrategia de la institución y supervisar las operaciones diarias. Está a cargo de desarrollar y ejecutar proyectos educativos con organizaciones gubernamentales y no gubernamentales. Desde 2001 hasta 2004 fue el Coordinador educativo de BITUI, el centro de educación no-formal para jóvenes líderes en México, donde diseñó y desarrolló programas educativos e impartió conferencias y seminarios de capacitación sobre temas relacionados con el liderazgo joven. Jimmy tiene un doctorado en educación (en proceso de titulación) del Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. Su tesis de investigación se centra en la formación de investigadores en programas de posgrado a través de entornos virtuales de aprendizaje. También tiene una Maestría en Ingeniería Biomédica de la Universidad de Tel Aviv, donde su investigación y tesis se centraron en el campo de la bio-electrónica; específicamente en análisis matemático de señales eléctricas del corazón.

Jimmy Salinas is the National Executive Director of ORT Mexico. He is responsible for defining and implementing the strategy of the institution and overseeing its dayto-day operations. He is in charge of developing and executing educational projects with governmental and non-governmental organizations. From 2001 to 2004 he was the educational coordinator of BITUI, the non-Formal Educational Center for Young Leaders in Mexico where he designed and developed educational programs and imparted lectures and training seminars on subjects related to young leadership. Jimmy holds a Ph.D. in education (ABD) from the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. His research thesis focused on the formation of researchers in graduate degree programs by means of virtual learning environments. He also has a master’s degree in biomedical engineering from Tel-Aviv University where his research and dissertation were focused on the bio-electronics field; specifically in the mathematical analysis of electric signals of the heart.

Maxi Grosman was born in Argentina and serves as the General Manager of API, a growing health company specializing in pediatrics, consulting and hospital management. He also serves as Managing Director in Latin America for Paragon Conventions, an official Professional Congress Organizer with over 22 years of experience and more than 50 international conferences per year organized worldwide. Prior to that, he worked at the prestigious Universidad Di Tella for five years as the Executive Director of Alumni Relations and Development.

Anteriormente, Gabriela fue dos veces madrija de Taglit y luego Coordinadora de actividades post viaje, voluntarios y relaciones institucionales en Taglit Argentina. Participó del ROI Summit 2009 donde se sumó a la red y pudo conocer la amplitud de proyectos judíos innovadores. In the past, Gabriela worked for two years as a madricha for Taglit and she then became the Coordinator of the post-trip activities, volunteers and institutional relations for Taglit Argentina. She participated at the ROI Summit in 2009 where she joined the network and got to know the extent of innovative Jewish projects within ROI. Gabriela has also worked at Cisco Systems where she was Associate Director of content and at the European Commission in Barcelona where she worked as Communications Assistant.

Gabriela nació y vive en Buenos Aires, estudió periodismo en TEA y la Universidad Caece y luego un Master de Relaciones Internacionales en la Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona y la Fundación CIDOB. Roberto Arrieta nació en la ciudad de México el 17 de septiembre de 1966. Realizó estudios universitarios en ingeniería en la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México y estudios de teología en la universidad La Salle de la Ciudad de México. Mas tarde realizó su maestría en doctrina social. Es socio fundador de Ayúdame que yo También soy Mexicano, una asociación civil dedicada al tema de la construcción en zonas rurales de México. Roberto cuenta con amplia experiencia en el manejo de proyectos de asistencia social. Se ha dedicado durante más de 20 años a la promoción humana, principalmente en adolescentes y jóvenes y tiene experiencia en trabajo en escuelas en temas de perdón, reconciliación y procesos humanos. Roberto Arrieta was born in Mexico City on September 17, 1966. He studied engineering at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico and continued his studies in theology at the Universidad La Salle in Mexico City where he later received his master’s degree in social doctrine. He is a founding partner of “Ayúdame queyo También soy Mexicano” (“Help Me, I am Also a Mexican”), a civil association committed to creating housing in rural areas of Mexico. Roberto has extensive experience in the management of social services projects. He has dedicated more than 20 years of his life to human promotion, predominantly among adolescents and young people, and he has experience working with schools on topics relating 116 to forgiveness, reconciliation and human processes.

He supports PresenTense as a mentor to their Global Summer Institute fellows and is an active volunteer with the Limmud FSU community. Dan holds graduate certificates in nonprofit management and in fundraising from the University of Pennsylvania.

Taglit-Birthright Argentina

Hillel es la Fundación para la vida judía universitaria más grande del mundo. Su sede central está en Washington y tiene más de 500 centros en campus y ciudades universitarias de EEUU, Canadá, Israel, Latinoamérica y la ex URSS. Cualquier joven judío de entre 18 y 30 años puede participar, porque tiene la visión del pluralismo Judío que involucra a todos los movimientos. Cada trimestre se renueva la agenda de cursos, se organizan eventos sociales (cenas de shabat, fiestas, after office), hay programas de becas y ofertas laborales exclusivas para miembros. Además, todas las semanas hay encuentros planificados por las Áreas de Interés.

Nacido en diciembre de 1999 como respuesta a la preocupación por el alejamiento de los judíos de su comunidad de pertenencia y pérdida del vínculo con Israel, ha logrado en sus primeros 11 años que participen del Proyecto 300.000 jóvenes de 54 países de los 5 continentes. Argentina ha contribuído con 11.000 jóvenes provenientes de Salta al Norte hasta Tierra del Fuego al sur.

ORT ORT es una de las organizaciones no gubernamentales dedicadas a temas de educación y capacitación con actividades, pasadas y presentes, en más de 100 países con operaciones actuales en Israel, la CEI y los Estados Bálticos, América Latina, Europa Occidental, Europa Oriental, América del Norte, África, Asia y el Pacífico. ORT es una organización sin fines de lucro, no política, que cumple con las necesidades de educación y capacitación de la sociedad contemporánea con más de 3,000,000 de graduados en todo el mundo desde su creación. ORT fue fundada en San Petersburgo en la Rusia zarista en 1880 para proporcionar capacitación para el trabajo para la empobrecida población judía de Rusia. Desde entonces, los 118 conocimientos impartidos por ORT han evolucionado junto con los avances tecnológicos.

Taglit-Birthright Argentina

Hillel is the worldâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s largest Foundation for Jewish campus life. Its headquarters are in Washington and it has more than 500 centers in the U.S., Canada, Israel, Latin America and the former USSR. Any Jewish student between 18 to 30-years-old can participate as Hillel fosters a vision of Jewish pluralism that involves all movements. Every semester, schedules are renewed and social events (for example, Shabbat dinners and parties) are organized. There are scholarship programs and job offers exclusive to Hillel members. In addition, weekly meetings are planned by the students relating to many different areas of interest.

Taglit-Birthright Israel was established in 1999 in order to deal with a growing division and disconnect between Jewish people and Israel, as well as their respective communities. In the first 11 years since its inception, Taglit-Birthright has brought 300,000 young people from 54 countries and 5 continents to Israel to participate in Taglit-Birthright program. 11,000 young people from Argentina have come to Israel on Taglit-Birthright; from Salta in the North of Argentina to Tierra del Fuego in the South.

ORT ORT is one of the largest non-governmental education and training organizations in the world with activities in more than 100 countries past and present with current operations in Israel, the CIS and Baltic States, Latin America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, North America, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. ORT is a nonprofit, non-political organization that meets the educational, and manpower training needs of contemporary society with more than 3,000,000 graduates worldwide since its inception. ORT was founded in St Petersburg in Tsarist Russia in 1880 to provide employable skills for Russiaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s impoverished Jewish people. Since that time, the skills taught by ORT have evolved in step with technology.

The premise for Taglit-Birthright is that every young Jew between 18 and 26 years should be able to participate, by way of a gift, in an educational trip to Israel. This would be a legacy from the older generation to the younger generation, with the goal of connecting Jews with their history and roots and thus strengthen their identity and reduce or prevent assimilation. There is no better investment in the Jewish people than that which is given in their young, future leaders. Taglit-Birthright aims to bring 51,000 young people from around the world to Israel on an annual basis, including 1,500 from Argentina alone. In doing so, Taglit-Birthright hopes to achieve its mission.
