1.0 Introductions 1.1 General Introduction

W

elcome to this our first published version of the 2014 Roger Albert Clark Rally event guide. Subsequent updates will also be available via our main website at www.rogeralbertclarkrally.org.

This event guide has been created to assist all competitors, officials, spectators with their planning for the 11th running of the Roger Albert Clark Rally. It has been designed to give all prospective participants an overview of all the individual events, which make up the Roger Albert Clark Rally 2014. Additionally it will give information, which is not contained within the various supplementary regulations, although it is advised that this guide is read in conjunction with these supplementary regulations. It should assist with planning travel to and from the event, on event accommodation, route information and details of facilities at our headquarters locations. In 2014 the Roger Albert Clark Rally will comprise of; Roger Albert Clark Rally [Historic]: National “A” permit event which is our premier event consisting of historic entrants across the spectrum of historic cars. This event will be run across 3 days, starting at the Seaburn Centre in Sunderland on the 28th November will finish back there on Sunday 30th November 2014. Roger Albert Clark Rally [Open]: National “A” permit event for all vehicles not covered by historic regulations. This rally runs to exactly the same format and over the same route as the historic event. Peregrine Print: This national “B” permit event will run over Saturday’s special stages in Hamsterley Forest and the spectator stages at Herrington Park. The start and finish of this event will also be at the Seaburn Centre as described in the paragraph above. At this time it is anticipated that these competitors will run ahead of the main field of cars. The mileage for this event will be announced shortly The Roger Albert Clark Clubman’s Rally: This successful national “B” rally will be run behind the main field of competitors for the run through Sunday’s special stages in the borders of Scotland and the Kielder complex. This has been a very successful event in the past and we hope to attract a good entry again this year. The mileage for this event will be announced shortly Finally please remember that this document is meant as a guide only and that details contained herein are correct at the time of publication. n behalf of the Roger Albert Clark Rally Motor Club and De Lacy Motor Club I have the greatest of pleasure in welcoming you to this year’s Roger Albert Clark Rally. Whether you are a prospective competitor, official, spectator or a media representative, I am very pleased to invite you to join with us. This year I am especially pleased to announce that we are working with Sunderland City Council via there commercial arm, Sunderland Live. My team and I have been working closely with them since the latter part of last year. I have been encouraged by their enthusiasm for the event and I am delighted that we can deliver yet another first class event for them. I also want to take this opportunity to mention our main commercial partners and thank them for their continuing support. Therefore I would like to give my thanks to, VK Energy, Peregrine Printing, Dunlop and Pirelli, along with all our logistics suppliers, Lookers of Sheffield, TH White [Royal Wooton Bassett], Aireshelta, and Swift Motor Caravans. I am also grateful to all the landowners and public bodies along the route without whose help this rally would ever happen at all. It makes me very proud that this event has now grown into such a firm favourite amongst competitors. I and my team are honoured by the fact that Motorsport News recently referred to the Roger Albert Clark Rally as “a true classic�. I hope that once again we can hold onto this accolade. Because of our co-operation with Sunderland Live, I have been able to move away from Yorkshire where we have started for a number of years now. This means a reinvention for the rally and I have been able to include much more in the way of stage mileage. The move north has enabled me to open up forestry roads which have not been used in years and this follows my continued promise to deliver new mileage year on year. Once again I have kept the event to three days to make it more cost effective for you the competitor. I maintain my promise to you, that the reduction in road mileage will have no effect on the competitive nature of this endurance event. With the help of Sunderland Live I have been able to include a superb spectator special stage at Herrington Park. As is traditional with the rally, this stage will be run in the dark on Friday evening before we travel to Hamsterley for a couple of stages. Then we will return to Sunderland, The Seaburn Centre, via Herrington Park. Saturday sees lots of action with the majority of the stages today. A return to Herrington Park and Hamsterley is followed by another spectator stage at Croft, from where we plunge into the southern side of the Kielder complex. A remote service halt at Longtown takes us into Kershope forest before our return leg to Sunderland. For Sunday the rally will be visiting stages not used for years. We will be visiting Redesdale Forest, Harwood Forest and we also make a welcome return to Ogre Hill. This year because of the help of Sunderland City Council we have been able to have a compact route with minimum disruption and ease of accommodation booking, I am deeply indebted to them for this. Once again I hope that you find this guide useful when planning your Roger Albert Clark Rally. For those of you returning I look forward to reacquainting our friendship and for those of you joining us for the first time I look forward to meeting you. 2.1 Event Detail – Roger Albert Clark Rally [Overview] 2.1 Event Overview*

T

his year 2014 sees the Roger Albert Clark Rally move away from the familiar format of the last few years. In November 2014 the rally will start and finish in the City of Sunderland.

Friday will see the traditional night time runs but this year they will include the spectator stage at Herrington Park and the forestry stages in Hamsterley. Saturday sees a return to Herrington Park this time in the daylight, and then to Croft, which this year celebrates 50 years as a race circuit. The rally then heads back north into Hamsterley and then makes its way to the depths of the forest of the borders with stages in Kielder, Kershope and Ash Park, before a service halt at Longtown. There will then be a reversal of the stages as cars head back to the overnight halt at the Seaburn Centre. The second day of the rally will be the toughest of the event with over 90 miles [144kms]. As always this rally will be a thorough test of ability, stamina and endurance across, what is for this year, three days. Will this year see a successful back to back win or will the Roger Albert Clark Rally see yet another new winner, there are plenty of drivers out there with the credentials to do this. The total mileage [kilometres] for this year’s event is: Stage Mileage:

Friday: -The rally will be based at the Seaburn Sports Centre for the Friday and early part of Saturday. The event is scheduled to commence at 18:00hrs and will plunge into darkness with a spectator stage at Herrington Park. Special stages in Hamsterley follow before a return to Herrington and then to the overnight halt at the Seaburn Centre. Saturday: - With an early start at 08:00hrs Saturday will be a busy day with a return to Herrington Park for the benefit of those spectators who couldn’t be there on Friday evening. The rally heads south for the traditional run around Croft race circuit. The special stages for the remainder of the day take competitors out through Shepherdshield, Kershope Ash Park to Longtown remote service before they tackle the run back to the overnight halt at Sunderland. At total of 92 special stage miles for the day Sunday: - Is a busy day with some 60 miles [96kms] of forest special stages in Harwood, Ogre Hill, Redesdale and Falstone, with much of the mileage new to the Roger Albert Clark Rally. Finish: - After a gruelling day in the stages of the Scottish Borders, the final time control and ceremonial finish will be back at the Seaburn Centre where the competitors will be greeted back by civil dignitaries from Sunderland City Council. Prizegiving: -The prizegiving for the Roger Albert Clark Rally 2014 will also be held at the Seaburn Centre which will be transformed for the prizegiving. This will take place at approximately 19:30hrs but as always this is subject to the exigencies of the event.

Over the three days of this year’s rally, it is expected that the organisers will put together a range of events for competitors to attempt, but here are the details of two so far. The predominant rally is of course the headline event, the Roger Albert Clark Rally 2014.

3.2 Location Map Seaburn Centre Sunderland

T

his diagram shows the location of the Seaburn Centre, Sunderland, which will be rally Headquarters for the Roger Albert Clark Rally 2014. The building is within easy reach of a number of guest houses and hotels, including those in the City Centre. A number of restaurants and takeaway outlets are also close by.

3.3 Location Map Herrington Country Park Sunderland

T

his year we are lucky to be able to offer a first class spectator experience at Herrington Country Park. This will be run in the dark on the Friday evening and will be run again on Saturday morning in order to offer two different experiences. The map below is not a definitive special stage map, but merely a guide to show the relationship between Rally Headquarters and the Herrington Country Park complex. The special stage itself will include a run around a natural amphitheatre from where the spectator will be able to see a considerable amount of the stage as it unfolds.

4.0 Headquarters Information Seaburn Centre 4.1 The Seaburn Centre

I

n 2014 the Roger Albert Clark Rally will be based at the Seaburn Centre, Sunderland. This building is a thriving sports centre in the small seaside area of Seaburn only a couple of miles from Sunderland City Centre. A wide sandy beach borders the North Sea just across the road from the centre; it is surrounded by a recently upgraded boulevard style frontage. Because it is a large sports centre, the organisers are once again able to offer scrutineering and documentation under one roof. The sports hall will be used for scrutineering, with documentation located upstairs in the building. There are many local amenities close by in the form of places to eat, drink and reside. A large modern Morrison’s supermarket is situated next to the centre. A list of all local facilities is included later in this document. The service park is situated to the rear of the Seaburn Centre and as is therefore not subject to the vagaries of the North Sea. Due to recent and possibly ongoing construction work in and around the site, the site will most likely be subject to a one way traffic system imposed for the duration of the rally. The start arch will be situated to the rear of the building and will see a ceremonial start on the Friday 28th November with members from Sunderland City Council flagging away the competitors. They will also be on hand for the finish back here on Sunday 30th November, which will be followed by the traditional prizegiving.

This will be held inside the Seaburn Centre which will be transformed with the addition of a stage for the proceedings. Situated only a couple of miles from the vibrant City Centre we are ideally placed for accommodation and all the city centre amenities.

4.2 Getting to the Seaburn Centre Sunderland is a major conurbation in the North east of England and it is easily reached via a major road network. Sunderland is situated approximately 10 miles [16kms] east of junction 62 of the A1M. Similarly it is situated within easy reach of the main international ferry terminal at Newcastle Upon Tyne, which is of interest to our European competitors who can travel from mainland Europe and arrive at Rally Headquarters with the minimum of road mileage in the UK. 4.2.1 Ferry services Ferry services to Hull and Newcastle conveniently link the North East with Holland, Belgium, Germany and France. P & O Ferries operate overnight services to Hull from Rotterdam and Zeebrugge, offering excellent links onto the motorway network. DFDS Seaways operates regular services to Newcastle from Amsterdam. The ferry terminal is located just outside Newcastle city centre, with access onto the major road networks. 4.2.3 Helicopters No arrangements have yet been made with our start location re the flying in of helicopters. 5.0 Prize Giving – Seaburn Centre

T

he prizegiving for the Roger Albert Clark Rally 2014 will take place inside the transformed Seaburn Centre. Everyone is welcome to attend this event which over the years has been a most enjoyable end of event party. It has been usual for the rally manager Colin Heppenstall to make his

announcements for the following years event and do not expect this to be any different with what is expected to be a very exciting announcement.

6.0 Media Accreditation 6.1 General Information

D

e Lacy Motor Club Ltd the organiser of the Roger Albert Clark Rally is pleased to offer fully accredited media facilities on the 2014 running of the event in November.

Spectator attendance on the rally runs into many thousands every year and last year’s event was covered extensively in all forms of local, National and International media, so come and join us for this year’s event and see what the buzz is about. 6.1.2 Application Process

A

ll applications for accreditation should be received by midnight on Friday 24th October 2014. The necessary forms will be available for download from the ‘Media’ section of the event website. Any applications received after this date will not be considered. For ease of administration, no acknowledgements will be sent out until after the closing date for applications. All new applications must be accompanied by details of the relevant media outlet, a signed letter from the editor confirming that coverage of the 2014 RAC Rally or associated events will be provided and/or evidence of previous similar coverage of the event. Up to a maximum of three representatives per organisation will be considered for accreditation and a separate form should be submitted for each person to be accredited. No exceptions will made to any of any of the above criteria. 6.1.3 Signing on Details

igning on will be at the Media Desk located within the Headquarters building at the Seaburn Centre , please watch the official event website for full details of the location. The signing on desk will be open between the hours of 13:00 and 16:00 on Friday 28th November. There will be no further signing on facilities due to the geographical nature of this year’s event. Individuals will be issued with a numbered Roger Albert Clark Media tabard, which must be worn at all times when engaged on media duties. [Please note that the organisers take no responsibility for any injury caused in the course of such activity]. These will be issued against a cash deposit of £50 or €60, this will be returned upon safe return of the tabard at the end of the event, see item 6.1.5.

6.1.4 Terms and Conditions

A

s a condition of granting media accreditation the organisers reserve the right to contact accredited media personnel to have sight of articles and photographs submitted for publication. With suitable permission and attribution the Roger Albert Clark Rally will then have the right to republish submissions on the event website and in marketing materials for future running of the rally. Numbered tabards must be worn at all times during your media activities on the Roger Albert Clark Rally see also item 6.1.3 6.1.5 Return of Tabards

A

ll Roger Albert Clark Rally media tabards must be returned to the media help desk at the event finish. This will be at the Seaburn Centre prior to the prizegiving. Exact details of the location and opening times will be advised nearer to the event. Deposits will only be refunded against returned tabards.
