Plumbers turn out for annual Bendigo Charity Golf Day! A report from Master Plumbers member Geoff Moroney

The 2014 annual Bendigo Plumbers Charity Golf Day was held on Friday 3 October at the Neangar Park Golf Club in Bendigo. The weather was near perfect, with a full field of 120 players enjoying the country sunshine. It was great to see so many plumbers turn out for the day and especially wonderful to see the older players who have attended for many years and are now being joined by their sons and mates, making this a multi-generational event. RMC Valves made sure the day got off to a great start by cooking up a huge BBQ breakfast for all the players and they kept the barbie cranking all day to make sure nobody went hungry. It was a fantastic day with some great, good, average and downright terrible golf played by a great variety of players. The day was an Ambrose event and the huge field of players managed to keep up a good pace around the course which allowed everyone to put up their feet in the club house and share the stories about the day’s play over a few drinks.

There were two main golf prizes on the day: The Alf McMeakin Trophy and handicapped event went to Peter McKecknie, Alan Docking, Peter Fawcett and Craig Foster. The Ron Martin Trophy (a new award named in remembrance of Ron, a founding member of the Golf Day 24 years ago) is awarded for the scratch event and was presented to Michael Ball (Association Treasurer), Michael Cooney, Reg Mullens and John Head. Finally the NAGA Award for the worst score on the day went to Steve Skinner, Brett Quazzier and Trevor Hicks. Congratulations to all the winners and players on the day! Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors we were once again able to supply some fantastic prizes for the Monster Raffle and Amazing Auction. This is where most of the money is collected on the day, with everyone in attendance digging deep into their wallets for the Camp Quality cause.

I’m proud to announce that this year we presented Camp Quality with a cheque for $20,000! It’s a far cry from the $200 total that we made at the first event 24 years ago and these funds will go towards paying the costs for a camp for kids and their families in the Bendigo region. We’d like to thank our Elite Sponsor, Reece, who have been a fantastic supporter of the event for many, many years. We’d also like to thank our many Major Sponsors on the day including: Rheem Australia, Pentair Water, RMC Valves, Bosch Hot Water, Zip Industries, Cooke & Dowsett Plumbing, Rogers Industries, Jetmaster and LW Gemmell. A big thank you also to our Intermediate Sponsors: Hauslers/John Deere, National Heating & Cooling, Kleen Heat Gas, Plumbtec Echuca, Water Store Tanks, Greg Archer and Cruze On Mechanics. We’d also like to thank all our Minor Sponsors on the day.
