Correctly sealing these cables as they enter explosive atmosphere electrical equipment is an essential safety requirement the world over. Traditional barrier type cable glands employing clay based sealing compounds have been used in our industry for many years to provide effective explosion protection. However, there are a number of issues associated with this method. CMP Products have identified crucial risks associated with and developed an innovative and revolutionary sealing solution for barrier gland that delivers increased reliability, RapidEx. RapidEx is a liquid pour, fast curing, liquid resin seal that installs in seconds and cures within minutes. Its unique formula begins with a low viscosity liquid that pours into the cable interstices, completely surrounding the cable conductors and displacing the air from the cable gland’s sealing chamber. This eliminates the human error risks associated with clay compounds as, instead of being manually compressed down, using this liquid resin to naturally flow around all the cable conductors ensures a perfect seal. This enhanced accuracy of application allows for a more reliable sealing solution. Every barrier gland product supplied by CMP with RapidEx liquid pour resin has an internal flame proof joint, enabling the cable to be easily disconnected and the assembly inspected. This arrangement is certified to both the IEC installation system (Ex d), in accordance with IEC 60079-1, and the CEC/NEC installation systems (Class 1 Division 1 & 2).
