SOCIAL EVENTS

The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron has a full and varied programme of social events throughout the year which highlight the friendly nature of our club.

Members of a world-class sporting club expect a world-class social calendar too and the Squadron does not disappoint. These social events provide the chance to catch up with old friends as well as being the perfect opportunity for new faces at the RNZYS to meet many of their fellow members.

The 36 Degrees Brokers Squadron Weekend in February is one of the main social events of the year and the biggest weekend of the summer. It begins with a Night Race to Kawau Island on the Friday night, the Round Kawau Island Race on Saturday and finishes with a crew party ashore on Saturday night featuring LIVE music, BBQ, drinks, prizes and lots more.

With a wonderful location, amazing facilities and some of the friendliest members you are likely to find anywhere, it’s little surprise that there always seems to be something going on here at the Squadron.

Among the wide range of Squadron-hosted events to have been enjoyed in recent times are: Father’s & Mother’s Day Brunch, Kid Christmas Party, 36 Degrees Brokers Golf Day, Speakers Series evenings, Emirates Team New Zealand Functions, Quiz Nights, Rugby Nights, Comedy Club Nights, Parties, Chef Series events, Picnics, Cruising Rallies, Wine Tasting and much, much more.

Boating is a way of life for many Kiwis. On a great day, the fish don’t stop biting and breath-taking sunsets are almost guaranteed. On a really bad day, well, that’s what insurance is for!

Primesure brokers can find you the right specialist marine insurance cover for all types of boats and pleasure craft, so you can enjoy your time on the water.

Common pleasure craft cover:

Comprehensive:

This covers accidental and malicious damage to your boat, fire damage, theft of your boat and its contents, accidents when trailering or in transit, and damage you may cause to someone else’s boat or property.

Third-party:

This covers accidental damage you may cause to someone else’s boat or property, including mooring infrastructures such as pontoons and piles. Many marinas around New Zealand will not allow you to hold a berth without this level of cover.

Storm damage:

If your boat is damaged or sinks during a storm, there are policies that will cover the damage and recovery costs, including fuel removal.

Primesure brokers work with leading pleasure craft insurers to get kiwi boaties the right cover. Talk to us today about your boating needs and we’ll find the right policy; Hook, line and sinker.

Outsourced Accounting

We provide a full range of accounting and bookkeeping services geared towards assisting small to mid-sized companies.

The RNZYS site is located within Bon Accord Harbour, Kawau Island. It is the south western headland of Smelting House Bay, immediately adjacent to the historic copper smelting site.

The property is largely scrubby coastal forest, which has been impacted by grazing wallabies and invasive plants, including some areas of large pine and macrocarpa trees.

The RNZYS are upgrading facilities on the site, including improving the amenity and ecological value of the landscape, restore the ngahere mauri (forest lifeforce) and providing habitat for the threatened native species such as kiwi and weka that live on Kawau Island.

Our vision is that kiwi and other native birdlife will return to the RNZYS site on Kawau Island.

Planting Plan

In year one, we planted 5,000 native plants, including specimen trees planted around the edges to give the project an early spark, as well as smaller ground cover species to improve the landscape. We are continuing our progress reclaiming native bush on Kawau Island, are also proposing a nursery that can hold those plants that we do not manage to plant. A nursery is also a good way to propagate plants for ongoing years, grown from seeds naturally collected on the island.

Going forward, we plan to plant around 2,500 plants per year to cover the RNZYS property and the adjacent DOC land. The nursery will be used to source some of these, and some extra plants would also be brought in.

Be Part of our Legacy

There are different ways you can be part of the legacy, including buying a tree for $25, buy a cluster of trees $150, buy a tree with a plaque $500, or simply donate by pledging your own amount.
