Adult Learn to Sail Level 1 16-hour Yachting New Zealand sailing course run over 5 weeknights or over a weekend in our Elliott 7m or Sonar keelboats.

Adult Learn to Sail Level 2 Thursday night briefing at the Squadron followed by three-day course run in a larger keelboat includes a stay at the RNZYS’s iconic Lidgard House located in Bon Accord Harbour on Kawau Island. All-inclusive cost covers tuition, food, drinks and accommodation.

Race Crew Training

Perfect course for people who have done our Level 1 and 2 courses or for sailors with some experience who are looking to increase their skills and become an indispensable part of a race crew. The crew then race the Elliott 7s in the Doyle Sails Winter or Wednesday Series (depending on season) and attend the race debrief, prizegiving and socialising with other sailors at the bar.

Level 3 Coastal Skipper, Great Barrier

Our Level 3 Cruising course is a four-day course run in our or a member’s keelboat.

The course starts on a Friday, we’ll teach you how to dock in a marina and finish the day with a planning/Navigation session and safety briefing at the RNZYS.

Saturday morning we’ll cruise the 60 nautical miles from Westhaven to Great Barrier Island. Over the weekend we’ll stay on the vessel and ashore on Kaikoura Island with stunning views across Port Fitzroy. Sunday will be spent cruising around the island getting practical experience anchoring, navigating, managing water/power consumption and also some emergency drills –rudder failure, engine failure plus a few others that we’ll keep as a surprise.

You will finish the course by bringing it all back together by planning the route and sailing back to Auckland on Monday evening arriving in Auckland Tuesday morning.

This is an all-inclusive course; the fee covers food, drinks and accommodation.

Level 3 Advanced Race Crew Training

RNZYS Level 3 Advanced Race Crew Training Course is a Yachting New Zealand endorsed sailing course.

The course format is either over 5 weeknights (Wednesday 5pm – 8:30pm) during the summer or three full days (Saturdays 10am – 4pm) from May to September.

The course is a mixture of practical and theory-based content. During this course you will learn all crewing positions on an MRX, racing in RNZYS sailing events. During this course you’ll learn advanced use of Spinnakers, rules and tactics.
