Colonial Hockey History

Moxley enters her first season as an assistant coach for the Colonials. Prior to arriving at Robert Morris, Moxley worked as the Head OnIce Instructor for Canadian Hockey Enterprises from 2002-2008, where she was responsible for implementing on-ice practice plans for various age and skill levels. She was also in charge of analyzing player’s skating and shooting skills through video analysis and served as a guest speaker about being a student athlete in the NCAA.   Moxley’s background also includes several more stints as an on-ice instructor/trainer around Ontario. This past summer, Moxley worked at Stephanie Boyd’s Female Hockey School, developing practices targeted towards specific skills regarding the game. From 2006-2007, she acted as an on-ice trainer and skills coach for Goulding Park Midget Boys AA Hockey. Moxley was responsible for implementing pre-season conditioning practices and developing individual skills practices.   From 2005-07 Moxley gained her first experience coaching, acting as the assistant for Markham District High School’s women’s varsity team. Prior to her job as an assistant coach, Moxley worked at the New Ice Age Hockey School in Stouffville, ON as an instructor and worked with players one-on-one and executed pre-planned practices and skill sessions.   Moxley first began instructing athletes during the summer at Niagara University, while also competing for the Purple Eagles as a Division I player. While playing for Niagara, Moxley led her team to an NCAA Frozen Four appearance in 2002, was the Niagara Women’s Hockey CoRookie of the year and was also a member of the CHA All-Academic Team from 2002-2005. In the 2003-04 season, she earned assistant captain duties and was promoted to team captain in the 2004-05 season. In her final season at Niagara, Moxley earned the Taps Gallagher Award for Sportsmanship and was named All-CHA Second Team.   While playing in the National Women’s Hockey League, Moxley led the team in scoring in 2008, was top 10 in the league in scoring in 2007 and acted as assistant captain from 2005-08. She nabbed the Unsung Hero Award in 2007, earned a silver medal at the ESSO Nationals and earned another silver medal at the 2007 Provincial Championships.

Spencer returns to Robert Morris for his third season, where he specializes in recruiting and goaltending. Previously, he served as an assistant at Bemidji State University from 2003-06. In his three seasons with the Beavers, Spencer split duties taking on the role of assistant coach with the men’s program while overseeing the strength and conditioning of the women’s program. During that time he helped guide the men’s program to two regular season titles, two conference tournament championships, and two appearances in the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament for the Beavers.   Spencer also had a hand in starting the Junior A squad North Iowa Outlaws of the North American Hockey League in the 2005-06 season. In his duties with the team, he acted as an assistant coach working directly with the defense and goaltenders, as well as heading the recruiting, overseeing the strength and conditioning of the team and serving as an academic advisor.   Prior to his career in coaching, Spencer played four year of collegiate hockey with the ACHA Division I Minot State Beavers. In his four seasons of play, the team earned bids to the national tournament three times, were ranked in the top-10 three times, and finished as high as third place in the division in 2001-02. Spencer’s accolades include winning the player’s player award in the 2000-01 season, being named captain for the 2001-02 season and receiving honorable mention honors in the ACHA tournament in 2002.
