November 25 … Linebacker James Noel is named NEC Defensive Rookie of the Year after tying a singleseason school record with 108 tackles.

November 15 … In the program’s 100th game, quarterback Rich Demaio, in the only start of his collegiate career, establishes single-game school records for completions (33) and passing yards (444) @ Duquesne. Demaio becomes just the second quarterback in Northeast Conference history to throw for over 400 yards in a contest, and his total is also an Arthur J. Rooney Field record. December 1 … A Robert Morris player takes home Northeast Conference Defensive Rookie of the Year honors for the second straight year, this time as defensive back Mike Niklos garners the award. May 17 … On the day of the 11th annual Joe Walton Celebrity Scramble Golf Tournament and Clambake at Beaver Falls Country Club in Beaver Falls, Pa., Robert Morris University President Dr. Edward A. Nicholson announces RMU’s on-campus football stadium, set to open in 2005, will be called Joe Walton Stadium. June 19 … On the eve of celebrating its 10th anniversary season, the RMU Board of Trustees approves building an on-campus football stadium as part of the 20,000 square-foot athletic complex already under construction between the University Drive entrance to the Moon Township campus and the Charles L. Sewall Center.

November 6 … The Colonials bid farewell to Moon Stadium, the program’s first home, with a resounding 34-7 victory over Albany. RMU finished its 11-year run at Moon Stadium with a record of 41-13 (.759), including 22-6 (.786) against Northeast Conference opponents. In the process, linebacker James Noel establishes a new career record for tackles in just his third season with the club and would finish the year with 330 career takedowns. November 18 … Linebacker James Noel is named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year after establishing a single-season school record with 115 tackles.

September 6 … Robert Morris opens its 10th anniversary season with a 33-23 victory @ Buffalo State. Running back Sam Dorsett, who missed all but one game of the 2002 campaign with an injury, rushes for 179 yards and two touchdowns and in the process becomes RMU’s all-time leading rusher.

February 6 … After three straight seasons of reaching the NFC Championship game, former offensive lineman Hank Fraley becomes the first RMU football alum to play in the Super Bowl, as he starts at center for the Philadelphia Eagles against the New England Patriots.

October 4 … Return specialist Tyjuan Massey sets a school record by returning the opening kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown as Robert Morris moves to 4-1 on the season with a 23-20 win over visiting Stony Brook.

July 20 … A triumphant day for the entire campus community, Joe Walton Stadium opens on the RMU Moon Township campus with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Attendees include University trustees, administration, media and former offensive lineman Hank Fraley.

October 7 … Tim Hall is chosen as the program’s AllTime Player as the Robert Morris 10th Anniversary All-Time Team is announced. A total of 25 players are selected to the squad, with voting consisting of ballots sent out to former Colonial players and coaches as well as online ballots on the official Robert Morris website, www.rmu.edu.

October 29 … Wide receiver Tyjuan Massey becomes just the second Colonial in school history to score four touchdowns in a game when he sets a new single-game school record for touchdown receptions against Stony Brook. November 12 … Wide receiver Tyjuan Massey establishes single-game records for receptions (10), receiving yards (272) and all-purpose yards (349) vs. Sacred Heart.

— 2006 — September 3 … Former offensive lineman Hank Fraley is traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Cleveland Browns, where he goes on to start all 16 games at center. September 23 … Robert Morris holds Rowan to one first down, -44 yards rushing and -19 yards of total offense, all school records, in a 21-0 victory. October 14 … The Colonials play their first home overtime game in school history, edging Central Connecticut State, 23-17. The win marked the first time RMU garnered a victory against a I-AA (now FCS) ranked opponent, as the Blue Devils entered the game ranked No. 19 according to The Sports Network. October 21 … Defensive lineman Ray Gensler finishes with half a sack against Monmouth, helping him establish a new Robert Morris career record in the category. Gensler would go on to finish his career with 19 sacks. September 8 … Michael Walser’s 36-yard field goal with 47 seconds to play lifts RMU to an emotional 2017 victory @ Monmouth. The Colonials were down, 14-0, early in the contest but rallied to win under assistant head coach Dan Radakovich. Radakovich served as head coach for Joe Walton, who was absent due to the death of his wife, Ginger. September 15 … Joe Walton returns to the sideline after missing RMU’s victory @ Monmouth a week earlier and leads the Colonials to a 28-10 win over Saint Francis. — 2009 — November … Garrett Clawson’s 20-yard field goal as time expired in regulation lifts the Colonials to a 1310 victory at Albany. Robert Morris snapped a fourgame losing streak to the Great Danes with the win and also snapped Albany’s 12-game home winning streak, which was a school record. November 16 … Kicker Garrett Clawson becomes the first player in Northeast Conference history to be named NEC Special Teams Player of the Year three straight times when he garners the honor after tying an RMU single-game record for field goals with three in a 37-10 win over Wagner two days earlier. — 2008 — April 24 … After 13 years as an assistant coach and assistant head coach at RMU, as well as 48 years overall as a football coach, Dan Radakovich announces his retirement. Defensive line coach John Banaszak is promoted to assistant head coach.

November 21 … RMU caps a dramatic turnaround to its 2009 campaign by concluding the year with a 23-9 victory at Monmouth. After starting the year 0-6, the Colonials reel off five straight wins to close out the season and finish tied for third in the Northeast Conference with a record of 5-3.

September 6 … Sherrod Evers ties an RMU singlegame record with 10 receptions in a 27-13 victory over Morehead State in the 2008 season opener. Evers finished with 159 yards receiving and a touchdown in the win.

October 25 … Robert Morris forces six Wagner turnovers, returning a pair for touchdowns, in a 35-3 victory over the Seahawks on Staten Island. Cornerback Rolf Bathold returned an interception for 65 yards for a touchdown, while safety Michael Landers returned a fumble 59 yards for a score.

November 21 … Robert Morris draws No. 25 North Dakota State in the preliminary round of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Playoffs. November 26 … A day before its first appearance in the FCS Playoffs, running back Myles Russ is named NEC Offensive Player of the Year, linebacker Alex DiMichele is tabbed NEC Defensive Player of the Year and head coach Joe Walton collects the fourth NEC Coach of the Year accolade of his career with Robert Morris.

September 20 … Running back Myles Russ is named the FCS National Offensive Player of the Week by The Sports Network and Fathead.com after compiling 229 all-purpose yards in RMU’s upset victory over Liberty two days earlier. Russ is the first player in school history to earn national I-AA or FCS weekly honors. October 2 … A 35-14 victory over Saint Francis in Loretto, Pa., helps Robert Morris notch program victory No. 100. October 9 … Defensive lineman Cory Nolton partially blocks a 28-yard field goal by Monmouth’s Eric Spillane with six seconds to play to help preserve a 17-16 victory over the Hawks at Joe Walton Stadium. November 8 … On the strength of its eight-game winning streak, a share of the 2010 Northeast Conference championship and the league’s inaugural bid to the FCS playoffs, Robert Morris earns its first national ranking in school history. The Colonials are ranked No. 25 according to the Top 25 polls from both The Sports Network/Fathead.com and the FCS Coaches.

November 27 … North Dakota State scores 23 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to break open a tight game as the Bison post a 43-17 win over Robert Morris in the preliminary round of the FCS Playoffs at the Fargodome in Fargo, N.D. Running back Myles Russ finishes with 117 yards rushing and concludes his career with RMU records for rushing (4,271) and all-purpose (4,651) yards.

October 11 … Myles Russ establishes an RMU singlegame record for rushing attempts with 37, compiling 246 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 34-27 win over Duquesne.

November 15 … The Colonials score 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to post a 35-20 victory at Saint Francis in RMU’s 2008 season finale. The Red Flash turn the ball over three times in the final quarter, with Robert Morris turning each of those miscues into points.

November 6 … Robert Morris clinches a share of the 2010 Northeast Conference championship with a 42-24 victory over Central Connecticut State at Joe Walton. The win helps the Colonials earn the league’s inaugural berth in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoffs.

King breaks a pair of records in the process, including becoming the program’s alltime leader in career receptions. October 8 … The first home night game in school history at Joe Walton Stadium features the Colonials rolling to a 45-14 victory over in-state rival Saint Francis in front of 4,384 fans, the largest crowd in the facility’s seven-year history, as part of the University’s Homecoming festivities.

December 6 … Brad Banas and Nolan Nearhoof are both selected as Capital One Academic AllAmericans. RMU was the only FCS school to have multiple Academic All-Americans in 2012.

— 2013 — September 28 … RMU storms back from a 10-point, second-half deficit to win at VMI, 37-31, in double overtime. The Colonials break the single-game school record for all-purpose yards by tallying 745 against the Keydets, an amount highlighted by Antwan Eddie’s record-breaking 88-yard punt return for a touchdown.

JAN. 24, 2012

— 2012 — January 24 … Assistant head coach John Banaszak, who has been on the Robert Morris coaching staff since 2003, is named the program’s coach-in-waiting. September 1 … RMU opens the season by facing defending FCS national champion North Dakota State. The Bison, who would repeat as national champions in 2012, entered the contest ranked No. 1 in the FCS Coaches’ Poll, marking the first time the Colonials ever played a top-ranked team in the history of the program. A standing-room-only gathering of 18,769 witnessed the contest, marking the largest crowd to watch a RMU football game. September 29 … Greg Langer knocked through a 33yard field goal with just 19 seconds remaining to lift RMU to a 31-28 victory over previously undefeated Lafayette in the inaugural meeting between the two programs in front of a standing-room-only crowd as RMU won a Homecoming night game for the second straight season. Jeff Sinclair accounted for 285 yards of total offense while rookie Marcelis Branch forced two turnovers in the victory.

November 9 … Robert Morris storms out of the gate at CCSU by scoring 40 points in the first half en route to a 54-21 win over the Blue Devils. The 40 points set a new record for points in a single half by RMU, a figure which was aided by two interceptions returned for touchdowns in less than one minute in the second quarter. November 23 … Joe Walton coaches his 207th and final game for Robert Morris, a season-ending contest at Saint Francis. Eight days prior, he was inducted into the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame. Walton, who finished his career with 114 wins, was tabbed for the NEC Hall of Fame within two months. Mike Cook (117 tackles) and Duane Mitchell (52 receptions) both broke RMU single-season records in Walton’s finale.

November 21 … RMU wins a pair of major NEC postseason accolades. Nolan Nearhoof, who broke the RMU and NEC career record with 26.5 sacks, is named NEC Defensive Player of the Year while Marcelis Branch is selected as NEC Defensive Rookie of the Year after forcing five turnovers in 10 games played.

November 8 … Duane Mitchell’s catch on the game’s opening drive gives him a reception in 31 consecutive games, a new school record. He would conclude his career by catching a pass in 33 straight outings. November 24 … Ryan Richards Jr. is named NEC Rookie of the Week after the final regular-season weekend. In doing so, RMU ties a league record by having four different players earn that honor in the same season. Rameses Owens, Nic Lamica and Gerald Ferguson also claimed the accolade in 2014.

December 18 … Senior offensive lineman A.J. Dalton and junior cornerback Antwan Eddie were both named All-Americans as announced by The Sports Network, just the third time ever that RMU produced multiple All-Americans in a single season.

October 13 … Nolan Nearhoof posts three sacks in a game at Bryant to break the career sacks record of 19 formerly held by Ray Gensler.

November 3 … RMU used a fourth-quarter touchdown and a late defensive stand to take down local rival Duquesne, 17-13, ending the Dukes’ chances of a NEC championship. In engineering the game-winning 77-yard drive, Jeff Sinclair became RMU’s career-leader in all-time game-winning drives in the fourth quarter with six, a mark that would move to seven with a comeback victory the following week at Sacred Heart.

October 18 … Robert Morris posts the largest comeback win in program history in a victory over Central Connecticut State. The Colonials trailed, 24-6, in the third quarter but scored 21 unanswered points, 18 of which came in the fourth quarter, to pull off a stunning victory. Hunter Khaleghi broke a single-game school record by making four field goals while Derik Abbott’s 11-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth gave RMU the lead for good.

December 1 … John Banaszak officially becomes the second head coach in RMU history.

October 6 … Greg Langer converts his 11th consecutive field goal attempt in a game at Saint Francis, extending his own school record in that category.

October 24 … Nolan Nearhoof earned the highest academic honor in program history as he was selected as a National Football Foundation (NFF) National Scholar-Athlete. Nearhoof was one of just 15 football student-athletes from across all divisions of the NCAA as well as NAIA to claim this honor and was the only student-athlete selected from 121 schools that play at the FCS level. As a result of earning this distinction, Nearhoof was awarded an $18,000 scholarship to assist with postgraduate studies.

September 10 … In the midst of his eighth season as a defensive coordinator for RMU, Scott Farison is promoted to assistant head coach.

— 2015 — October 10 … Eight former Colonials are named to the Northeast Conference’s 20th Anniversary Team. RMU’s eight selections were the most obtained by one school, past or present, on the 27-member squad. October 10 … True freshman Dante Satcher returns a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown against Sacred Heart, resetting the mark for the longest kick return in school history. OCT. 18, 2014

— 2014 — January 16 … Fewer than two months removed from concluding his coaching career, Joe Walton is announced as one of three inductees for the 2013-14 Northeast Conference Hall of Fame class. August 28 … John Banaszak makes his Division I head coaching debut as the Colonials open the season at home against Eastern Kentucky. The game doubled as the first non-Saturday home game in program history. September 6 … True freshman Rameses Owens runs for a RMU freshman record 199 yards at North Dakota while making his first collegiate start. Owens, who compiled 237 all-purpose yards in the game, would earn National Freshman of the Week honors as a result of his effort.

November 7 … Robert Morris registers nine sacks in a 21-9 win over East Tennessee State. Six Colonials contributed to the mark, which broke the program’s single-game record against a Division I foe. The victory was RMU’s third of the season in which it trailed in the second half. November 9 … True freshman Mathew Barr is named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week. Barr is the eighth Colonial to earn a NEC weekly award during the season, breaking the RMU singleseason record in that category. November 23 … Wide receiver Kyle Buss is named a finalist for the STATS National Freshman Player of the Year honor, the first Colonial to reach this stage in the award’s five-year history. Buss surpassed six RMU freshman records while catching 50 passes for 742 yards. Two days later, he is named the NEC Offensive Rookie of the Year.
