Mid-Major Basketball: A Five-Year Study (2007 to 2012) ... Since the beginning of the 2007-08 season, Robert Morris has become one of the nation’s elite in regard to mid-major basketball. Over the last five years, the Colonials have compiled an overall record of 117-56 (.676), with the 117 victories tied for ninth with Kent State among mid-major programs in the country. Butler of the Horizon League has posted 139 wins over the same span, tops among mid-major institutions. Four Score and ... Robert Morris extended its winning streak to five games with an 84-70 win @ Saint Francis U. (1/24/13) as junior guard Karvel Anderson paced the Colonials with 22 points. Anderson was one of four Colonials to reach double figures in scoring against the Red Flash, as he was joined by sophomore forward Lucky Jones (16), redshirt senior guard Velton Jones (15) and redshirt senior forward Russell Johnson (12). RMU has had at least four players reach double figures in scoring a total of 31 times in three seasons under head coach Andrew Toole, with RMU owning a record of 22-9 (.710) in those contests. Included in that stretch is a 7-2 (.778) mark so far on the 2012-13 campaign. On The Offensive - Bolstered by a shooting percentage of 51 percent (26for-51) in a 76-68 victory over Mount St. Mary’s (1/26/13), Robert Morris extended its winning streak to a season-high six games while continuing its streak when shooting 50 percent or better from the field. RMU has now won 34 consecutive games when shooting 50 percent or better dating back to the 2008-09 season. The last loss for Robert Morris when hitting at least half its shots came in a 92-72 setback @ Pittsburgh (2/2/09), when the Colonials shot 57.4 percent (27-for-47). Under third-year head coach Andrew Toole, RMU is a perfect 19-0 when turning the trick.

2012-13 RMU Basketball

Streaker - Redshirt senior guard Velton Jones owns the longest double-figure scoring streak by a Colonial on the active roster at 19 games. Jones turned the trick in the final six contests of the 2010-11 season and the first 13 games in 2011-12. Over that span, Jones averaged 16.6 points per contest. The streak stands as the third longest in school history and fell one game shy of allowing Jones to become only the third player in school history to score at least 10 points in 20 consecutive contests. The longest double-figure scoring streak of the 2012-13 campaign belongs to Jones and junior guard Karvel Anderson, who have each reached the plateau in five straight games.
