INTERVIEW - GOOD RIDDANCE

“We are secure with our modest place in the music world and our legacy inside of that” How did you end up reuniting then? “We realized we really missed the songs and missed playing them live. We also found that we are all at a place in our lives where we actually have the time to do this in a limited capacity. We had been approached countless times about reforming to play over the last five years and had turned them all down. The time seemed right and we were all actually available, able to make it happen.”

After having been gone for years. Does this new start feel like a new beginning or is it different from that? “It's vastly different. It's a known quantity now. We have none of the desperate competition or pressure we once felt. We are secure with our modest place in the music world and our legacy inside of that. We have nothing to prove and are just hoping to reconnect with our fans who we still feel are some of the most passionate and supportive in the world.”

“We all got together for several hours and discussed it. The others made a convincing case for playing a few shows and I agreed.” Did you make the decision together or did some of you have to be persuaded? “I was reluctant. We all got together for several hours and discussed it. The others made a convincing case for playing a few shows and I agreed.” What does this reunion mean to you? Is it a new fresh start? “I see it as an opportunity for us to play songs which we have all missed and which meant a lot to us. Also an opportunity for fans to relive, perhaps, some fond memories. Maybe some younger fans who got into our music through older siblings or friends but never saw us play will come and check it out.”

You're playing Groezrock in Belgium this year. A festival where you’ve been to before. What do you remember of those times? “Always had a great time at Groezrock, both in Good Riddance and Only Crime. Looking forward to being a part of it and seeing all the other bands there. We always had a blast in Belgium - really looking forward to it.” Are there any other plans to tour, or record music, in the future? “There are still a lot of ideas floating around. When things are confirmed we will announce them at that time. We always enjoyed touring Europe and I think we would all enjoy playing more shows there. We will have to wait and see.”
