Through research and self-analysis, Lyons has partnered with a student at RMIT to explore the topic of “Why we Draw the Way we Draw”. The drawings of six key Lyons projects have been analysed to understand working methodologies, concepts and communication techniques, all that have evolved over time, through shifts in technology and audiences. The drawings of Lyons has been situated within the current profession and the history of architectural drawing through a genealogy map. A series of new hybrid drawings has also been identified that make new connections between Lyons drawings and historical ones uncovering commonalities, subconscious influences and potentially new ideas.
The RMIT Architecture Practice Research Elective provides an opportunity for students to study with architectural practices and undertake design research within their practice
