che ha origine dalla dottrina inglese. Il Comando della Brigata è ad Anzio (Roma). La RISTA è un ambizioso progetto sorto anche sulle ceneri del disciolto 13° GRACO, (Gruppo Acquisizione Obiettivi) all'epoca di stanza a Verona. Più tardi, il Reggimento IEW, già di stanza a Treviso, cedeva la "I" a favore di un'altra organizzazione creata dalla fusione dei tre SIOS (Servizio Informativo Operativo di Sicurezza) delle Forze Armate italiane: il CII, il Centro Intelligence Interforze di stanza a Ponte Galeria, in provincia di Roma. Il CII è sotto l'autorità del RIS, Reparto Informazioni e Sicurezza, subordinato allo Stato Maggiore della Difesa. Dal RIS dipende anche il CIFIGE (Centro Interforze di Formazione Intelligence e Guerra Elettronica). Il CII coordina inoltre diversi DAI (Distaccamenti Autonomi Intelligence) distribuiti in tutta Italia. Così, lo Stato Maggiore dell'Esercito, subordinato a SMD, è riuscito a gestire/controllare alcune attività distinte d’intelligence tattica con capacità di ricerca informativa e contro-intelligence, con ampie capacità tecniche, il know-how necessario e risorse umane ricche di expertise. La Brigata RISTA-EW fu fondata e costituita sotto il COTIE, (Comando delle Trasmissioni e Informazioni dell'Esercito) ad Anzio. La struttura della Brigata RISTA-EW è molto eterogenea e tutti gli assets principali sono di stanza nel Lazio e in Veneto. Gli assets specialistici dei singoli reparti fanno riferimento a precise branche di intelligence: • 13° BTG "Aquileia" di stanza ad Anzio è specializzato in operazioni Human Intelligence (HUMINT) e acquisisce informazioni sulla base di fonti umane, in particolare tramite contatti interpersonali. Per essere Operatore del settore, è necessario frequentare il "Corso H" ed essere qualificato come operatore HUMINT, essere in grado di sopravvivere in qualsiasi tipo di terreno e avere un'ottima conoscenza della lingua inglese oltre che di altre lingue “rare”. • 33° RGT EW schierato a Treviso e specializzato in operazioni Communication Intelligence (COMINT) e Electronic Signals Intelligence (ELINT), è il reparto di intelligence più antico dell'Esercito Italiano. Per operare come Operatore di Guerra Elettronica e Ricerca Elettronica è necessario possedere il massimo livello di NOS essere in gra-

ISTAR-EW originates from the British doctrine, embodied in our country by the RISTA-EW Brigade, whose Headquarters is in Anzio (Roma). RISTA Brigade was an ambitious project conceived in the late 1990s, on the ashes also of 13st GRACO, at that time stationed in Verona, under the direct authority of NATO. Later, the IEW Regiment, already located in Treviso, lost his “I” of intelligence in favour of another organization created from the amalgamation of the three SIOS’s (Security’s Operative Intelligence Service) of the Italian’s Armed Forces into CII, the Joint Intelligence Centre stationed in Ponte Galeria, in the province of Rome. CII is under the authority of the RIS, Security Intelligence Department, subordinate to the SMD, Italian Defence General Staff. RIS is also in charge of CIFIGE (Electronic Warfare/Intelligence Training Joint Centre). CII also coordinates various DAIs (Joint Autonomous Detachment) deployed throughout Italy. So, the Army General Staff, SME, subordinate to SMD, has managed to hold in its hands some tactical intelligence assets with manifest and distinct information and counter information research connotation with the necessary technical capabilities, know-how and human resources. The ISTAR-EW Brigade was founded and set up under COTIE, (Information and Transmissions Command of the Army) in Anzio. The structure of the ISTAR-EW Brigade is very patchy and all the main assets are stationed in Lazio and Veneto. In the ISTAR-EW Brigade’s bosom there are many specialized departments which refer to more precise intelligence branches: • 13th “Aquileia” Battalion stationed in Anzio is specialized in HUMINT operations, providing intelligence based on human source, particularly with interpersonal contacts. Before being operative in this sector, you have to attend the “H course” and be qualified as Human Intelligence Operator, to be able to survive in any kind of terrain and to have excellent knowledge of English. The knowledge of uncommon foreign languages is also highly recommended. • 33rd EW Regiment deployed in Treviso, specialized in SIGINT, COMINT and ELINT operations, is the oldest intelligence department in the Italian Army. To operate as a EW specialist you must have the highest NATO clearance (NOS), be able to speak several foreign languages including some rare dialects, such as Serbo-Croatian, Russ-
