OUR HISTORY We appeared in three incarnations in the 1800s 1. A short-lived, Manhattan-based humorous weekly, published from 1859 to 1863. 2. In the U.K., from 1868 to 1914, Vanity Fair was the title of a periodical that became known as the cream of the period’s “society magazines,” best remembered for its witty prose and its caricatures of men 3. In 1890, another American version began weekly publications as a theater magazine

HOW WE GOT HERE 1913: CondĂŠ Nast bought the rights to the name and introduced a new hybrid journal, Dress & Vanity Fair, which had a four-issue run. 1914: We revamped and Re-launched 1936: We suspended publication due to the Great Depression 1983: CondĂŠ Nast Publications resurrected us again, as a quirky cultural satire 1984: Tina Brown took over until 1992, and currently edited by Graydon Carter
