GM’s Note: January 2017 By Charles Musto

H

appy New Year Riverview! I never know how long into the new year it’s still appropriate to wish someone a Happy New Year but I’m doing it anyway! By the time this issue of the Reflector gets published, we’ll be well into January but since it’s the first issue of the year, I think I can get away with it. With good reason too. There’s so much on the horizon for the RVCC in 2017 that it’s hard not to be excited about what lies ahead in the next 12 months. Last January I listed some ‘New Year’s Resolutions’ for the club and it proved to be a pretty good road map for us so here we go again. • Finally finishing the kitchen renovation!! This renovation has taken over a year to complete (almost 2 years if you include all the planning and grant applications). To say we’re excited to move on to the next project would be a very, large understatement. When the kitchen is finished and fully stocked with all new kitchen equipment, we’ll have an incredible space for all sorts of new possibilities • Once the kitchen is done, there’s no time for rest. We’ll move right back into the hall and add some really cool upgrades to the space that will make it much more versatile and attractive to all sorts of users. Highlights will include more efficient and dimmable lighting as well as sound treatment to reduce the echo. • Calling all performers! We’re getting a new stage in the hall. No more creaky wooden risers. The new stage will be adjustable to two different heights, a variety of sizes and will have a non-slip surface. Perfect to set the stage for the community performances at the Spring Carnival, the Blues Social or anything else that comes our way • Batter Up! After an inspiring start up to our baseball program last year, we’re looking to swing for the fences this year and bring some upgrades to the diamonds. On the combined strength of the softball AND baseball programs, we’re looking to get the tools desperately needed for better diamond maintenance. We’re also looking into upgrading the player’s benches with some sun shelter and, who knows, if we’re really lucky we may see a batting cage in our near future! As always, this is just a sample of what’s to come and we’d like to recognize that none of this is possible without the herculean efforts by all the volunteers that work so hard to bring such amazing things to this small centre. Thank you, thank you, thank you! On the backbone of this great community, there’s so much more coming up in 2017 so strap yourselves in and enjoy the ride!
