Mayfest and Blue Dome Arts Festival Coming Downtown

T

ulsa International Mayfest (May 16-19) held in downtown Tulsa will draw more than 350,000 attendees with artists, crafts, gift items, food, music and more, says Festival Executive Director Heather Pingry. The festival has evolved to inspire a simultaneous Blue Dome Arts Festival (May 17-19) with offbeat and unique artist-crafted items for sale. Admission into the festivals is free. Mayfest – in its 41st year – also boasts a Youth Art Gallery, huge Kids Zone and much more including food vendors. Festival hours are Thursday-Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday and is located in downtown Tulsa on Main Street from 3rd to 6th Streets. The 10th annual Blue Dome Arts Festival – centered along Second Street and Elgin Avenue - is focused on supporting OK artisans and entertainers who sell their original works. “The mission of the Blue Dome festival is to allow all artists, including emerging artists, to have a venue,” says Blue Dome founder Michael Sager. “At the end of the day, everybody emerged sometime, and Blue Dome was created in response

to the outcry for an artist venue without a judge and jury.” This year Blue Dome will have a new festival layout including 220 artist vendors, whose crafts include painting, pottery, carving, photography, jewelry, home decor, etc. Third Street ClayWorks will have their pottery wheel on site and Blue Dome’s first emerging artist Fashion Show &Contest has local designers preparing for their big debut. The fun includes food trucks, a chalk circle, street performers, face painters and balloon artists. Live performances include Native American exhibition dancers and drummers, singer-songwriters, belly dancers, and more. Nicole McMahan will display her famous ArtCars and host the Art BoxCar Children’s Parade at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Admission is free, and all are welcome!

River spirit event center Summer entertainment at River Spirit Event Center kicks off in May with Herman’s Hermits, Friday, May 3 and the Beach Boys on May 17-18. More info at www. tickets.riverspirittulsa.com.
