The Next Three Years

As construction crews broke ground on the new Mosing Middle School building— the physical culmination of the 2013 strategic plan—ROBS leaders were in a conference room next door talking about what comes next.

The meeting was one of a dozen strategic planning discussions over the last year in which we sought input from hundreds of people—parents, employees, board members, alumni, church members, and even students. Every group was asked how the School needs to evolve to best prepare students for the future, as well as what aspects of the School they hope will never change.
Out of this extensive process, four priorities for improvement emerged: • Differentiation: How do we adapt subject area content, teaching processes, classroom tools, and the learning environment to stretch each student to his/her full potential recognizing the uniqueness of each learner’s gifts and abilities? (See “What Is Your Genius” for deeper look into differentiation.) Diversity & Inclusion: How do we nurture a culture of inclusivity, honoring the humanity and dignity of each student? Wellness: How do we advance programming that promotes intellectual, physical, spiritual, moral, and social wellness? Programming: How do we accomplish the above initiatives recognizing the practical limits of time (academic calendar) and space (ROBS’ campus)?

WHAT NOW?
These strategic initiatives sketch a picture of the 2019 Strategic Plan. Now it’s time to add some color. Over the summer the ROBS administrative team will synthesize the data, benchmark ROBS against top private schools, and research industry best practices. With this comparative and historical data, the team will flesh out each initiative with actionable deliverables, overlay a timeline, and forecast associated costs.
WHAT’S DIFFERENT
While strategic plans allow for flexibility in terms of how and when to implement the tactics, they typically span a 5-year cycle. With the current planning effort coming on the heels of an expansion doubling the School’s square footage, these initiatives are very much an extension of the priorities set forth in 2013. ROBS leaders will develop action items within a 3-year framework.
COMING SOON: FALL 2019
Following approval by the ROB Board of Trustees, the School will share the full report with ROBS community. Expect to see it this fall!
