Munchkin League, Gardening and the Recycleman

Rivermount Seedlings have enjoyed an action packed semester with an array of inquiry based learning experiences designed to build confidence, enhance fine and gross motor skills and of course the opportunity to learn through play.

As part of their Early Childhood Development Program, our youngest students were recruited by the Munchkin League in May. With a Rugby League Twist, students learnt about teamwork and communication as well as developing their ball skills.

Earlier in the year, the Kindy students had a special visit from an environmental superhero, The Recycleman. Bringing his educational show to the College, The Recycleman entertained and educated students on creating a sustainable environment, the importance of recycling and how the recycling system works. Children were keen to get involved and learn about what they can do every day to help.

At the end of the semester, our Seedlings lived up to their name when representatives from Bunnings visited their classroom to provide an educational session on potting and caretaking for plants.

The Kindy students all enjoyed decorating their own pot before carefully choosing a flower to plant and nurture. All the children were looking forward to taking their creations home to continue caring for them and watching them grow.

This interactive initiative forms part of Bunning’s commitment to giving back to the community and the College’s philosophy and commitment to environmental connection and awareness
