Youth Theatre’s street performance THE art of street performance will be taught at workshops hosted by the Riverland Youth Theatre next week. Award winning physical theatre ensemble Born in a Taxi will lead the workshops, which will take place from Monday to Friday and

will support the development of the new RYT Street Ensemble. “The Riverland is an outdoor activities region and our social calendars are spotted with markets, field days, parades and sporting events,� RYT artistic director Olivia Allen said.

“The Street Ensemble is a chance to take arts into the streets and community events with fun, ironic, quirky and satirical performances.� There are limited places available for the workshop, so book your place by contacting RYT on 8586 3437.

IT IS HARD to believe that Suicidal Tendencies was once voted the worst band and almost three decades later the hardcore punk band continues to tour, reliving the days when the punk rock scene was leather jackets and hair standing on its end. Vocalist ‘Cyco Miko’ Mike Muir has had his fair share of controversy and attention but according to the outspoken singer, the band’s early criticism was based on fear. “When we did our first record, the punk fanzines and little magazines said our first record sucked, ‘it was metal, it was terrible, don’t listen to it’,� Mike told the Riverland Weekly.

“You sit there and you just have to laugh it off. “We came out into punk rock where everybody had their leather jacket on and 22 bands written on the back of it. “The first interview we did we said ‘we’re not here to be the 23rd or 24th band you write on the back of your leather jacket, we’re here to get you to take that leather jacket off and put a Suicidal shirt on’.� Suicidal Tendencies, regarded as pioneers of skate punk, grew its music over the years to mix elements of metal and funk and create its own unique sound, while Mike believes many other bands at the time were
