DIVISION HIGHLIGHT The Administrative Services Team keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes. With sharp organization and attention to detail, they turn complex processes into seamless operations. Their work does not just support the mission—it keeps it moving forward. Read on to discover how they bring structure, efficiency, and a touch of excellence to it all.

Tell us about the work your team does and the If your team had a theme song, what would it be impact it has on the Human Resources Department. and why?

The Admin Services team provides operational and administrative support that helps keep the Human Resources Department running smoothly. We assist with coordinating executive meetings, department events, communications, and various administrative functions that support our leadership team and staff. While much of our work happens behind the scenes, our goal is to create structure, organization, and support that allows our department to focus on serving the County and its employees effectively.

If our team had a theme song, it would be, “She Works Hard for the Money” by Donna Summer. As a team of dedicated women supporting a fast-paced department, we work hard behind the scenes to keep things organized and running smoothly.

Do you have any funny stories, inside jokes, or team traditions you’d like to share?

Our team has learned that when working behind the scenes, flexibility and communication are essential to ensuring our leaders receive the support they What does a typical day look like for your division? need. A good sense of humor also goes a long way, No two days are exactly the same for our team. On as some days can feel like a rollercoaster ride full of any given day we may be coordinating executive twists and turns. calendars, supporting department meetings, planning events, assisting with internal communications, or helping staff navigate administrative processes.

Our team is often balancing multiple priorities while ensuring leadership and staff have the resources and support they need.

What advice would you give someone interested in joining your team?

Be organized, flexible, and ready to adapt. Much of our work requires balancing competing priorities while maintaining a positive and professional approach.

Strong communication skills and a willingness to support others are also key.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT To better highlight the great work happening across our department, we’re introducing a new feature that spotlights our team members. In this edition, we feature Alyssa Wallace, who brings precision and passion to Class & Compensation. She plays a vital role in supporting HR operations that is felt across every department.

What division are you part of, and what do you do on your team?

I’m part of the Classification & Compensation division. My role primarily focuses on classification studies, market research, and drafting memorandums and reports. I also handle class specification amendments and AB 339 reviews.

How long have you been with the county?

I’ve been with the County since 2019, so this August will mark my seventh year.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I really enjoy the team I’m on, we’re a smaller group, but very collaborative and supportive. I also genuinely enjoy the research and writing aspects of the job. Writing has always been something I’ve loved, so being able to incorporate that into my day-to-day work has been especially rewarding.

I recently transitioned into Class & Comp after spending several years in Recruiting, and I’ve really been enjoying this new chapter.

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?

I love going to the movies, specifically I’m a big horror movie fan. I go at least once (usually twice) a week! My favorites are The Fly, Hereditary, and The Thing.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love spending time outdoors, especially backpacking. I got more into it after taking a wilderness travel course through the Sierra Club (highly recommend!), and it’s become one of my favorite hobbies. One of my most memorable trips last year was a backpacking trip near Aspendell, where temperatures dropped to around 7° overnight. It was an incredible experience! I’m currently planning a trip to the Channel Islands later this year.

Favorite food, movie, or weekend activity?

Favorite food is definitely pizza but I’m a picky about it.

A good crust (preferably sourdough) is key! Two of my favorite spots are Quarter Sheets near Dodger Stadium and Folks Pizzeria in Costa Mesa.

Is there anyone on your team or in the department you would like to shout out who has supported your success?

I’d like to give a shoutout to Brandon Lee, who was assigned as my mentor on my first day at the county and is now my supervisor! Also, Edgar Chavez, who started the same day I did and has been a great colleague to collaborate with over the years. And Victoria Gonzales (now Valdez, congrats!), who I met in Recruiting and have stayed close with, she’s been a constant source of support.

What strengths do you bring to your team that you’re proud of?

I’d say my strengths come from my enthusiasm for the work, especially when it comes to research and writing. I also value building strong working relationships and contributing to a positive team environment.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I’m really proud to work for the County of Riverside and have genuinely enjoyed my time here. I’m excited to continue growing in my career and contributing to the organization.
