Technique In this pattern you will need to know how to make a square knot (see Figure 1) and how to add cords to a central cord using square knots (see Figure 2).

INSTRUCTIONS To make photos more visible I retouched them to a white background. All the work was made on a block of foam using ball headed pins to hold the cord in place while taking photos of each of the steps. The size of this ring is 6, but by using this tutorial you will be able to make any size ring you will need. Step 1: Cut a 12 inch length of cord. Then put the bead of choice in the middle (center) of this cord. Cut a 24 inch length of the second cord. Using technique from the diagram (figure 2) add this cord to the main cord. (In our case we add one cord to a single main cord, rather than what you see in figure 2 which is how add the cord to 2 cords.) You are now ready to start making the necessary square knots that form the rings band.

Step 2: Now repeat step 1 on the opposite side of the bead. Cut a 24 inch length of cord. Add the 24 inch length of cord to the main one using the technique of adding cords with square knot. (Again from figure 2) Start making the necessary square knots to form the second half of the ring band.

Step 3: Make an equal number of knots on each side of the bead, so that the bead will be centered above the finishing knot. In this case must be 6 knots tied on each of the side of the bead. If you are making a different size ring, then measure using your finger. Make as many knots as you need, but make sure to leave about a half an inch to finish the ring. (You can also use step 4 if you have a ring size taper.)

Step 4: Find the right ring size; make sure to leave room to finish the band. There will be either a finishing knot or glue to finish the band, glue is used in this example.

Step 5: After you found the right size, cut one end of the main cord to the desired length.

Step 6: Use a drop of gel super glue to connect the cut cord to the opposite uncut main cord. Then make the first final square knot over the trimmed short main cord you just glued to the other untrimmed main cord. The result is that the glued cord will be underneath the first final knot. Finish the first final square knot. Tip: you can use flat nose players or other metal clamping tool to hold the main cords together for the couple seconds, before you make the final knot. (This will keep the glue from hardening to all the cords before you finish the final knot.)

Step 7: In this step you will need to repeat step 6

Cut the remaining main cord Use gel super glue to connect the remaining part of the main cord to the other glued main cord. Make the second final knot (Again the glued cords will be under the final knots)

Step 8: Make the knots until they meet each other After this step you will have 4 cords ends remaining from the 24 inch long knotted portions. The last step is to cut the remaining cords flush and use a drop of gel super glue on each end. (This is to protect the cords from unraveling.)

Let it dry for at least 10-20 minutes.

You hemp ring is finished!
