Continuous Business Process Improvem The First Performance Audit of Prince George’s County Public Schools in Nearly 20 Years Educating County children to compete in a global economy remains a critical element to the success of Prince George’s County. A world-class 21st century school system is a shared priority and requires commitment from all stakeholders working together to create more high-performing schools. A key step to achieving that goal is conducting a comprehensive assessment of County school operations—the first in nearly 20 years. In January 2016, the County took the first step in this process by initiating the “Continuous Business Process Improvement Study of Prince George’s County Schools.” This independent study is an important, historic and transformative partnership between the Council, County Executive, the Board of Education, CEO of Prince George’s County Public Schools and all stakeholders in education in Prince George’s County. Council Member Davis sought a performance audit that would provide important oversight over multiple facets of County school system operations funded by County taxpayers. School improvement requires a thorough examination of both operations and fiscal practices. How are County funds being spent? What areas should be funded? And where can savings be achieved? The long-awaited “Continuous Business Process Improvement Study of Prince George’s County Schools” has begun the process of comprehensively assessing school operations in five key divisions of Prince George’s County Public Schools: Human Resources, Curriculum and instruction, Supporting Services, Business and Management Services, and Information Technology. The process, which is continuous and ongoing, will result in a more efficient and effectively run education system, and ensure the highest return on the significant investment ($1.9 billion or 63% of County resources in FY2017) citizens consistently make in education in Prince George’s County. It is the first step in a continuous and ongoing improvement initiative. Please visit the Council’s website at pgccouncil.us for periodic updates and opportunities to participate.
