Nestled within the splendid confines of the Matangi Dairy Factory, The Sunday Society is a hidden treasure trove. It houses a captivating blend of perfectly imperfect vintage European furniture and thoughtfully curated new homewares and gifts.

As an actual family business, our guiding principle is sourcing items we genuinely adore, ensuring that our offerings range from ornate 200-year-old gilt French mirrors to rugged mid-century industrial steel workbenches and everything in between. These are harmoniously accompanied by a thoughtfully chosen selection of contemporary home goods, ranging from daily necessities to exquisite, future heirloom gifts.
Named in homage to the leisurely pace of Sundays, when we pause to relish what we love with those we cherish in places close to our hearts, The Sunday Society embodies the values of a slower time.
Much like the historical treasures nestled within the factory’s walls, the pieces here represent a time when craftsmanship was an art celebrated, skills were poured lovingly into each creation, and the resulting works were revered and cherished.
Being off the beaten path is integral to us, as we aim to provide items that are distinct and not readily found elsewhere, ensuring your visit is always worthwhile. And if you’re fortunate, you may catch a glimpse of our on-site workshop, where we lovingly restore the next treasure that’s about to grace our shelves.
As a fascinating tidbit, the Glaxo Building, our home within the factory, was once hailed as the world’s largest and most modern dairy factory when it was constructed. Its history is intertwined with decades of New Zealand’s farming and business heritage, as the newly-founded NZ Dairy Co-op, the precursor to Fonterra, erected it. We are delighted to carry forward its rich legacy.
When you walk through our doors and explore our 400-square-metre showroom and workshop, we invite you to take a moment to slow down and savour the extraordinary space we’ve crafted.
From our family to yours, we aim to offer exceptional service, products that delight, and an experience that is second to none!
