Natural Coco Medium Our Roots Grow Deep

COCONUT NATURE Mother Nature has provided humankind with many things. Life on earth would cease to exist without the presence of plants and trees. The coconut tree has played an integral role in the existence of many cultures across the globe. “Kalpa Vriksha” known in Sanskrit is defined as “the tree that gives all that is necessary for living.” Nature’s miracle, coconut tree, is referred to as ‘Tree of Heaven’ in some cultures and ‘Miracle Tree’ in others. Every part of the tree, from the roots, trunk, milk, fruit, fiber and leaves, each are significantly useful to humans and can be used in one form or another.

COCONUT MIGRATION With the movement of currents and waves, bobbing its way to new shores and enriching new soil, the coconut goes way back to adventurous seafarers exploring new territories and coming across a strange new fruit provided by the gods. The coconut has journeyed its way through the hearts of people in Sri Lanka and their hard working hands of preparation diversifying the many values of the coconut that is centuries in age.

COCONUT FOUNDATION The coconut history derives from the Spanish and Portuguese word, coco, which means “monkey face.” Explorers of Spain and Portugal found the three round indented markings at the base of the coconut to be very similar to a monkey’s face. It’s suffix ‘nut’ was added as botanically known as cocos nucifera, with nucifera meaning “nut-bearing.” In the 15th century in an English print, the English name for the fruit-bearing palm was written as “coconut.” Although the palm family is native to many tropical locations in the world, the light, fibrous husk allows it to easily drift on the oceans to other locations to propagate.

COCONUT TREE IN SRI LANKA Sri Lanka, the treasured ‘pearl’ of the Indian Ocean is located south of the Indian subcontinent and part of the South Asian region. Over centuries, founders have called the land of Sri Lanka, Paradise, for its abundant beauty from the ocean shades of blue that surrounds the island, its astonishing colors of the rising and setting of the sun, to the cultivating fields where the Sri Lankan staple of rice grows and the vibrant greenery of the tea country up in the hills. The coconut tree is the most common palm in Sri Lanka and was put to many uses by the natives in their daily lives since centuries ago. Since the inception of the coir industry in Sri Lanka in the 1860s, the coco pith and fiber have been considered beneficial for many reasons. With the discovery of the benefit as a soilless growing medium for hydroponics crop production and many other growing methods, Sri Lankan coconut husk has emerged as world’s best soilless coir growing media to grow plants.

Our extensive curing process takes a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks, after which time the coconut fibers are separated and graded. This process adjusts the electrical conductivity, as well as, increases our coconut fibers’ flexibility and durability without causing deterioration. We control the intrusion of contaminants and salts into our coir materials during collection and processing by implementing a stringent quality control system. This aids us in maintaining the product’s consistency and uniformity. We maintain detailed documentation for every product from its origin to its final destination.
