To understand ‘The Big Three’ Greek Gods; their history, personality, appearance, abilities, attributes and attendance.

- To read understand the two series written by the author Rick Riordan - To analyze how the author has twisted the mythology and formed two fictional books out of it.

2. Introduction The Big Three is a term in Greek Folklore used to depict the Three Siblings or primary power holders in the immortal world. The Big Three are Zeus/Jupiter, Poseidon/Neptune, and Hades/Pluto, children of Kronos and Rhea. At the point when the Three Siblings fought Kronos and casted him dead, they made the world into three sections: the Sky/Olympus, the Seas, and the Underworld. Zeus picked first; the Sky/Olympus. He always craved for more power and felt he would do excellent as a ruler of all. Poseidon chose next and he picked the Seas; waters. This left Hades with the last

option that is the Underworld. Embarrassed about his domain, he pulled himself back from Olympus and endured alone in the Underworld.

On Olympus, Zeus picked his sister Hera as his queen. She was dedicated to him because she was the goddess of marriage and pregnant women.

However, the same could not be said for the king. Zeus was a perfect powerful god and everybody used him for their own. He was very easily pounded and persuaded by ladies to make love and have children with them.

In the oceans and seas, Poseidon had a control over every under water creature, both the genuine and the monsters. He controlled the tides, the exchange winds, and even the course of the ships. He was a thoughtful man, making the horse out of ocean foam as a blessing to the people. It was said that on a long adventure one must give a worship to Poseidon for a safe passage to and fro the waters.

The Underworld was a dim and desolate place, and Hades was ashamed that he was the ruler. He always looked for a partner to come along but, none wanted to marry the lord of the darkness. Hades deceived his significant other into marrying him. Persephone, daughter of Demeter, goddess of the harvest. She was in the fields with her mother one evening and she ended up eating six seeds of a pomegranate, those six seeds represent the six months of every year she would have to stay in the underworld with Hades. It is a usual misconception that Hades is one of the evil three but, true to its form, Hades has been made the way he is by his brothers.

3. The Big Three A). Zeus/Jupiter “Very well! In the name of the council, we swear by the River Styx to grant your reasonable request, as long as it is within our power.”

- Zeus, to his nephew; Percy Jackson in the book; The Last Olympian.

Zeus is apparently known as the Greek God of the sky, weather, air, lighting, kingship, honor and justice. He is the main king of Olympus/the youngest son the Titan Kronos and Mother Rhea/husband of the Goddess Hera. His Roman form is named Jupiter.

HISTORY 1. Circumstances of Zeus Birth: Zeus was the youngest son of the Titan Kronos, the Titan King of Mount Othrys. Kronos was very terrified by three of his children (who were gods which are considered a more powerful race of immortals than the Titans themselves). As predicted by Kronos’s father, Ouranos (Father Sky) that his sons will one fine day overpower him and rule the world. Hence, Kronos consecutively ate his own children; Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades and Poseidon. He soon came to be known as the ‘King Cannibal.’ Rhea (Kronos’s sister-wife) pleaded him to spare their children but, even her love wasn’t enough in front of his selfish and evil nature. Rhea soon heard the voice of Gaea (Mother Earth), giving her an advice to give birth to the final child who will save his siblings. Rhea lied to Kronos that her brother Koios had asked her to meet at Crete, she departed immediately for that place and gave birth to Zeus without Kronos being aware of it.

2. Sibling Rescue Operation: On Crete, in a very cave at the bottom of Mount Ida, Rhea gave birth to her sixth and final kid. His name is Zeus. Rhea gave her newborn son to the 9 nymphs that attended his birth and came to Mount Orthys. She used a large smooth boulder the identical size and shape as a newborn (given to her by Gaea) to deceive Kronos, by wrapping it up in swaddling clothes, and pretending that it had been her final kid. Kronos swallowed it while not even looking (which gave him an intense stomachache), and was with success deceived. Throughout his childhood, Zeus was raised by Rhea who visited him often. Rhea would usually tell Zeus regarding his brothers and sisters, all of whom he was destined to rescue from his father's stomach.

When Zeus grew to adulthood, he with success reworked into a large version of himself, and (with quite a help from his mother) infiltrated Mount Othrys by convincing Kronos to take him as his royal cup bearer. With the assistance of his nice singing and recreation skills (as well as his information of the many atrociously humorous "satyr jokes"), Zeus was able to perpetually give a show to each of them at Mount Othrys including Kronos.

Shortly thenceforth, Zeus inspired all of the male Titans to participate in drinking contests because the Titan King of Mount Othrys, Kronos would invariably win, since he couldn't let his siblings or nephews overcome him in something. Finally, the Titan King began trusting Zeus utterly, that is strictly what the latter was awaiting.

Once upon a time, Kronos was eating along with his titanic brothers and nephews, Zeus had prepared a special set of drinks for all of them. The god prepared nectar mixed with sleeping drinkable for Kronos's guests to knock them out, whereas he prepared a very powerful emetic (made from nectar mixed with mustard) for Kronos himself which might build him vomit everything that he had once consumed out. As before, Zeus 4

amused all of them along with his glorious singing, wild Kouretas’s dance moves, and atrociously screaming satyr jokes. Close to the top of the large banquet, Zeus inspired all of the Titans to own yet one more drinking contest and two-handed out the ready goblets.

As before, Kronos won the competition, however Zeus' emetic was therefore powerful, that it forced him to instantly disgorge all of the contents of his stomach, in reverse order of swallowing: initial the boulder, then Hades, followed by Hera, Demeter, Hestia, and Poseidon. All of them had been growing in Kronos' stomach.

Zeus quickly introduced himself to his elder siblings that they all promptly set loose at Mount Othrys, before their titanic uncles and cousins came to their senses. In Zeus's cave, at the bottom of Mount Ida, all six of them merrily reunited with their mother Rhea, who tearfully embraced all of her reclaimed kids. Shortly after that, the gods accepted Zeus as their leader, and reached a unanimous agreement on declaring war against their father. Since the Titans were armed, and the gods had no weapons, Zeus determined to unleash his Elder Cyclopes and Hekatonkheire uncles from Tartarus (the deepest part of the underworld) 1st so that they could craft weapons for them.

3. Elder Cyclopes and Hekatonkheires: Zeus' eldest brother, Hades, was an expert in navigating below the underworld, and was ready to lead all of them into Tartarus (through a network of Underworld tunnels).

Now, within the maximum-security zone, enclosed by large bronze walls, and volcanic rock lava and guarded fierce demons, were the Elder Cyclopes and Hekatonkheires. Their guardian, KampĂŞ, was the rightly furious and a dreadful monster of Tartarus, and even Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades at first shuddered with horror after they saw the infernal monster for the 1st time. However, the gods overcame their worry, and were ready to sneak in. Zeus managed to speak to the 5

Cyclopes Brontes, and convinced him to forge powerful weapons for him and his siblings behind KampĂŞ's back.

The 3 Elder Cyclopes made three unbelievably powerful weapons: the Master Bolt (for Zeus), the Trident (for Poseidon), and finally, the Helm of Darkness (for Hades). With these weapons, Zeus killed KampĂŞ, and Poseidon shattered the chains of the Elder Cyclopes and Hekatonkheires, giving them their freedom.

Afterwards, Hades safely guided his siblings and uncles back out of Tartarus. When they returned, all six of Zeus's uncles agreed to fight in the forthcoming war with the Titans.

4. The First Titan War: Shortly after they came back from Tartarus, Zeus and his siblings formally declared war on Kronos including the other Titans, which resulted in the horrific 11-year-long Titan War. The Titans at first had the superiority, because they were far more knowledgeable about wars. However, as the war passed, the gods quickly became proficient warriors likewise, and with the assistance of their new extraordinarily powerful weapons such as Zeus' Master Bolt, Poseidon's Trident and Hades' Helm of Darkness. Moreover, the aid of the Elder Cyclopes and Hekatonkheires's strength became extraordinarily helpful as the war progressed, the gods finally prevailed. While preparing for the ultimate battle of the war, Zeus and his siblings ascended to Mount Olympus (the tallest mountain in Greece after Mount Orthys) and defeated the Titan King Kronos. After that, the gods invaded the ruins of Mount Orthys, and eventually flooded the remaining Titans Hyperion, Atlas, Lapetus, Koios, and Krios. In the aftermath of the battle, the Elder Cyclopes tied up all the defeated Titans, whereas Hekatonkheires then forced them to kneel before 6

Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. Zeus took his father's scythe and sliced Kronos into tiny pieces, before casting him into Tartarus, together with the rest of the party of his followers (except for Atlas, who was forced to hold up the sky). Soon after that, Zeus offered the Hekatonkheires to live in Tartarus as the jailer of the Titans.

5. Became the King of Olympus: The gods selected Mount Olympus as their official residence. The Elder Cyclopes designed impressive palaces up there for all the gods. As a result, the gods began to decide their Olympians.

Shortly After that, Zeus had a personal meeting along with his brothers, Poseidon and Hades, they came to an agreement to divide the world between themselves. Though it had been Hades' birthright (as Kronos' eldest son) to be named his father's successor, he in agreement to divide the Titan King's former domain along with his brothers. Hades received the Underworld, Poseidon had taken the seas and Zeus took the heavens as his domain. After they divided among themselves, they called themselves 'The Big Three.' However, Zeus's authority was recognized as superior to all of his brothers (probably thanks to him releasing his brothers and sisters), so Zeus became the king of Mount Olympus, and also the king of Olympian Gods.

6. Married Metis: Zeus married Metis after the war. When Metis became pregnant, he learnt that their son would over throw him like he did to Kronos. Out of fear, he then swallowed both Metis and the child which she carried. One fine day, Zeus had an extremely huge headache. Hephaestus opened Zeus’s head, revealing his one and only daughter Athena, the goddess of wisdom, warfare and art.

7. Married Themis: After Zeus swallowed Themis, he married Themis, Titaness of Divine Law and Justice. Themis gave birth to two pairs of triplets; 7

The Fates (three white robed personality of destiny) and The Horae (goddesses of seasons). The Fates were born as old women and looking at that, Zeus asked Themis to peacefully step aside and end their marriage.

8. Hestia Hesitant for Marriage: Hestia never wanted to get married after looking at her own father who swallowed her and looking at how her mother Rhea suffered throughout that period. Moreover, looking at Zeus swallowing Metis and last she also saw Zeus and Themis’s children. She dint want to risk having disabled and strange kids.

Her past experiences indulged a fear of marriages and even though, Poseidon, Apollo and Zeus approached her, she declined.

She asked Zeus to grant her this one wish of staying single throughout her life and even though, Zeus never understood he reasons, he still granted her wish. Henceforth, Hestia came to be known as the Goddess of Hearth.

9. Relation with Demeter: After Zeus ended his marriage with Themis, he married Demeter and had a beautiful daughter named Persephone. Even though, Zeus’s and Demeter’s romance ended, Demeter kept Persephone as a dear daughter to her. She spent most of her spare time with her. Her mother also shared few of her powers with Persephone and later, she became the goddess of springtime and flowers.

10. Married to Hera: Hera is the oldest daughter of Kronos and the oldest in all the Olympians. Hera was extremely intelligent and the most beautiful goddess in the world (before Aphrodite’s birth). Both Hera and Zeus had feelings for each other but, Hera was too stubborn to admit it. Moreover, Zeus was more stubborn to woo her. Zeus

made a bet with Hera that if she would confess then, he would make her his bride.

After a few days later, Zeus generated thunderstorm around Olympus and cunningly disguised himself as an injured bird. The bird flew into Hera’s chambers.

The goddess felt disheartened and dried his feathers, gave the bird some divine nectar. Thereafter, the next morning the bird did not want to leave and the very instant, the bird transformed into Zeus himself.

Even though Hera was very embarrassed but, she was impressed too. She agreed to marry Zeus in one condition that he would remain loyal to her. He agreed to keep that promise but, once they got married Zeus broke Hera’s trust. Their wedding has been described as the most magnificent in the Greek Mythology History. After the wedding, Hera became the Queen of Mount Olympus and the Olympian Gods. They received many gifts and the most important one was the Golden Apple Tree which was later planted as an Orchard.

Both Zeus and Hera were very happy for 300 years. Together they gave birth to Ares (the god of war), Hebe (the goddess of youth), Eileithyia (the goddess of childbirth), Hephaestus (the god of fire and blacksmiths) and Enyo (the goddess of war). However, since Zeus broke Hera’s trust and she devoted most her time in keeping Zeus in sight. Hera hated Zeus’s mistresses and she made Zeus’s illegitimate children’s life miserable. This is most evident in the story of Hercules, whom she tried to kill repetitively.

11. Riot in Olympus: Hera was extremely furious with Zeus and she decided to start the first Olympian Riot against Zeus. She managed to include Poseidon, Apollo and Athena too. All three of them waited for Zeus to fall asleep and they waited for a signal from Hera. Then, they chained him up. Hera wanted Zeus to rule Olympus better.

After they chained him up, the rest of the Olympians went to have a meeting as a council. Zeus was found by Thetis and only after he convinced him to be merciful towards the rioting Olympians, he found Briares by the sea shore who untied Zeus.

Poseidon and Apollo were temporarily left with no godly powers.

They were punished by Zeus and were sent to serve the mortal king of Troy where Poseidon served him until the Trojan War. After a number of years when Poseidon returned to Olympus, Zeus gave back his powers but, he could not trust his brother anymore and suspected him 1000 years later when someone stole Zeus’s Master Bolt.

Hera received the most severe punishment of all: Zeus chained her above the Void of Chaos. Every day he would go visit her and threaten her with his Master Bolt. Hephaestus would hear his mother screaming and her son sets her free. Hera hugged Hephaestus and promised to never call him ugly. However, Zeus marched into Hephaestus’s chambers and he flung him to Lemnos. He broke every bone in his body which in time were healed and as he returned back to Olympus, Zeus was ashamed of his mistakes and apologized and welcomed his son back with open arms.

15. Zeus is quite a show-off and hence, Poseidon says that he would have done well being a god of theatre.

16. Zeus does love his children but, he doesn’t show that love too much.

17. Zeus can be sympathetic too.

18. Charming, Strict, Prim, Serious Persona and a sense of Humor.

Zeus Appearance: Zeus is very tall, imposing and muscular with shoulder – length black hair and a gray and black neatly trimmed beard. He has electrical blue eyes with a serious, proud and a handsome face. When Zeus becomes very furious his face turns into as dark as a thundercloud. When Zeus is sad, his faces turns into as far away as the ozone layer. Zeus’s attire is a dark blue pinstriped suit. He smells like, rain and clean wind. He also wears white robes with threads of gold. In his divine form he looks like, massive column of twisting lighting and fire.

Zeus Abilities: 1. Massive Strength – very powerful 2. Battle Powers – prone to win battles 3. Height Manipulation – can change height any rate 4. Aerokinesis – Absolute control over air.  Wind Generation – create the density of wind  Air Ropes – divine authority over the 4 wind gods.  Inhalation – can swallow anything  Flight – can fly with the help of find  Nephelokinesis – making replicas of gods using clouds.  Air Waves – detect radio waves.

Zeus Attributes: 1. Symbol is Master Bolt 2. Aegis robe-shield 3. Eagle 4. Scepter Zeus Attendants: Zeus has several loyal attendants such as the four wind gods; Boreas, Notus, Zephyros and Eurus. They pull his war chariot. Nike is the goddess of victory who serves as Zeus charioteer and Hermes who his son and the messenger and last Ganymede has cup-bearer and lover.

Big Three Take an Oath: Over the centuries the Olympians moved west to the countries that held the seats of their great power and influence. During World War II, Zeus' and Poseidon's demigod children fought together against Hades' own demigod children. After Hades' side (Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Imperial Japan) was defeated, the Oracle prophesied that a half-blood child of one the three brothers would either cause the downfall or salvation of Olympus. This caused The Big Three gods to swear an oath to no longer sire any more demigod children. But, Zeus does eventually and that makes Hades really mad.

Thalia and Jason Zeus was attracted to a television starlet, Beryl Grace and he had a child with her named Thalia Grace. Even though, the three of them took an oath, Zeus broke it and sired Thalia Grace as his daughter. Years later, he returned to same woman in the Roman form Jupiter and had another kid named Jason Grace who was named after Argonaut Jason. In order to appease Hera because she was angered by this act. The Gods aren’t supposed to have Greek and Roman children in the same house. That’s a risk of the two of them not getting along together. Zeus left Beryl again because that’s the custom, the gods are supposed to leave their mortal consort. This got her really unstable and she died in a car crash.

B). Hades/Pluto “I am not an Olympian! My family has made that very clear.�

Hades was feared by all the gods and goddesses and was never invited in the Mount Olympus. Except for the Winter Solstice, the darkest day of the year. However, by gaining the Underworld, he captured authority, metals, jewels under the earth and he became the richest Olympian. Hades was so feared by the mortals and the demigods that they rarely revealed his name. They called him ‘The Rich One.’ 5. Persephone Kidnapped: Hades was away from his family and he was lonely. So, he wanted a wife to fill the void. When Hades spotted Persephone, the daughter of Demeter, her beauty won his admiration. Hades fell madly in love with the young goddess. He carried portraits of her in his pockets, then he tried carved her name into his breakfast table, imagined long conversations with her and he 16

also secretly spied on her wearing his Helm of Darkness. He fell in love so much that he couldn’t perform well as the Lord of the Underworld. Hades wanted to take her as his wife, despite what Zeus and Demeter would say. He knew that Demeter would never agree to it. So Hades tried speaking to Zeus instead.

Hades took the courage to visit Mount Olympus and begged Zeus to allow the marriage Zeus was in a very good mood and he advised him to kidnap Persephone. Hades succeeded in kidnapping his beloved but, she did not want to stay and she wanted to be rescued. With time, she began to admire Hades’s power and wealth and she fell in love with him. Hades was very kind, patient and he never bossed her around. He wanted his love for her to be reciprocated. He spent all his day with her, buying her presents and trying to woo her. He also built her a garden with her favorite trees and flowers right down in the Underworld. It was Hades’s kindness that finally won Persephone’s heart.

Meanwhile, Demeter soon realized why Earth became so barren. She furiously blamed Zeus for allowing Hades to kidnap Persephone behind her back. After Zeus saw the condition of the planet and when mortals began to pray too much, he asked the Lord of the Dead to return his daughter and he sent Hermes to deliver the message.

Hades became devastated but, he had to listen to Zeus. While this happened, Hades’s gardener tricked Persephone to eat six pomegranate seeds, so she had to stay with Hades for six months of the year. Demeter became even more furious but, she couldn’t do anything about it. Her daughter had to stay with Hades for half the year.

He has a mesmerizing and an evil charisma. He has a shoulder length black hair with bangs that cover his forehead. Hades voice is very oily.

Hades wears black flowing robes with evil souls threaded to the cloth. During battles, Hades rides on a huge gold and black chariot pulled by a black Stygian Iron Armor with helm engraved with images of death and torture. He wears two rings; silver skull one and an opal one. Hades black robes are tied at the waist with a white cord. Hades height is about 10 feet but, the gods have powers to be any size they want.

The Big Three Oath: Over the centuries, the Olympians moved from Greece and Rome towards the west of the globe. Now, during the World War II, Zeus and Poseidon’s demigod’s children fought against Hades’s demigod children. After Hades’s side was defeated that is; Fascist Italy, Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany. The Oracle said that a demigod child of either of the three main gods would cause a downfall or salvation of Olympus. This was the main reason why all the three gods took an oath to never have demigod children. But because Hades already had two demigods (Nico and Bianca di Angelo), Zeus ordered him to take them to Camp Half Blood. Hades disobeyed, for fear that his children would either be turned against him or killed.

Angered, Zeus tried to kill the young demigods, Bianca and Nico di 20

Angelo, by destroying the hotel they were currently residing in, but Hades managed to protect them. He, however, failed to save their mother Maria di Angelo, and was greatly grieved, and threatened to "crush him" for what he had done. Hades however placed a curse on the Oracle instead because he couldn't directly take his anger upon Zeus and it was her who issued the prophecy.

Tried to kill Thalia: Right after Luke, Thalia and Annabeth encountered Grover, Hades found out that Thalia was a mortal child of Zeus. Hades was extremely mad at Zeus for killing Maria, Hades’s lover. He sends the most terrifying monsters from the underworld to destroy Thalia. The Cyclopes chained all of them into thin air but, Annabeth saved all of them. When their group reached the Camp Half-Blood hill, Hades’s army caught up with them, Thalia asked the rest of the party to get inside the camp while she fought with the army all by herself. Zeus took pity on his daughter and to prevent her soul from going to Hades, Zeus transformed Thalia into a pine tree which protected the Camp Half-Blood.

Poseidon is the Greek god of the sea, storms, earthquakes, droughts, floods and horses. He is the son of the Titan Kronos and Mother Rhea, one of the Big Three. His Roman form is Neptune.

HISTORY 1. Birth and Rescue of Poseidon: As you know, the beginning of how the big three came from Titan Kronos and Mother Rhea.

Zeus quickly introduced himself to his elder siblings that they all promptly set loose at Mount Othrys, before their titanic uncles and cousins came to their senses. In Zeus's cave, at the bottom of Mount Ida, all six of them merrily reunited with their mother Rhea, who tearfully embraced all of her reclaimed kids. Shortly thereafter, Poseidon and the other gods accepted Zeus as their leader, and reached a unanimous consensus on declaring war against their tyrannical father. However, since the Titans were well-armed, and the gods still had no weapons, Poseidon agreed to help Zeus release their Elder Cyclopes and Hekatonkheire uncles from Tartarus first.

4. Empowering the Seas and the Oceans: The gods selected Mount Olympus as their official residence. The Elder Cyclopes designed impressive palaces up there for all the gods.

As a result, the gods began to decide their Olympians. Shortly After that, Zeus had a personal meeting along with his brothers, Poseidon and Hades, they came to an agreement to divide the world between themselves. Though it had been Hades' birthright (as Kronos' eldest son) to be named his father's successor, he in agreement to divide the Titan King's former domain along with his brothers. Hades received the Underworld, Poseidon had taken the seas and Zeus took the heavens as his domain. After they divided among themselves, they called themselves 'The Big Three.' However, Zeus's authority was recognized as superior to all of his brothers (probably thanks to him releasing his brothers and sisters), so Zeus became the king of Mount Olympus, and also the king of Olympian Gods.

Even after that Poseidon and Zeus fought and argued between the domains. Right after the new generation of gods established their domains, Rhea suggested that Poseidon should take his leave to explore the domain of seas, sending him to live with the Telekhines.

Poseidon spent all his time with Telekhines who gave him proper education about the ways of ocean, skills learnt from his Trident.

After all the information he gathered from them, Poseidon built his own palace and soon he had the Elder Cyclopes build Atlantis (his official under water residence) at the bottom of the Aegean Sea.

5. Poseidon and Athena never get along: Athena and Poseidon have a huge rivalry between them. It all started off with both of them wanting to be the patron of the city Attica. The people of the city, asked the gods to create a gift for them and the one they liked, they would make him/her the patron. Athena gifted the people an olive tree and Poseidon’s gifted them salt-water spring and created horses. At first, people of Attica thought that Poseidon’s gift was more appealing but, when they tasted the water, they realized, it was salted. It wasn’t drinking water. The people then decided to take the olive tree and the city’s king Kekrops made her the patron goddess of the city because they could use the olive tree for food and oil. They also named their city Athens after the Goddess Athena and they turned their city symbol into an owl or an olive branch. They also built her a Parthenon in her honor. Even today the Athena Parthenon Statue stands in the city of Athens, Greece.

The other time when there was conflict between the two was when Athena transformed Coronis into a raven as a response to her prayer for help. Poseidon was trying to seduce her and as a result, Poseidon wanted revenge. Hence, he took Medusa (his new lover) and her two sisters into Athena’s temple. Furious with Poseidon and Medusa, she turned Medusa and her two sisters into Gorgons. She cursed Medusa additionally. Anyone who looked into her eyes, they would be turned into stone. As a matter of fact, in the book Percy also faces Medusa and she tries to make Percy a statue so that she could keep her exlover’s replica to herself. The more Poseidon and Athena can’t get along together in reality. The fictional book shows Percy (the son of Poseidon) and Annabeth (the daughter of Athena) together.

He learns who his father is and also understands the other forms of Greek Gods and Goddesses through their demi-god children. He learns to go on quests with the help of Oracle and also learns to fight with wild demons and monsters. Annabeth and her friends Jason, Piper and Leo fly on the Argo II and cross Camp Jupiter. Hoping that they see their praetor Jason on the deck and realize that the visitors from Camp Half-Blood are coming in peace.

Annabeth has more to her list of worries; she carries a gift from her mother Athena, Goddess of Wisdom. It says follow The Mark of Athena. She was already weighed down by the Doors of Death Prophecy that now, she has to complete this task too.

In this last book of the series, both Greek and Roman crewmembers of the Argo II have succeeded in many quests and are still far behind from defeating the Mother Earth; Gaea. All her giants have risen and are stronger than ever. All of them must be stopped before the Feast of Specs- when Gaea plans to sacrifice two demi-gods at Athens. She needs their blood (The Blood of Olympus) in order to wake up.

The demi-gods are having frequent visions about a terrible battle at Camp Half-Blood. The seven demi-gods are tempted to take Athena Parthenos to Athens to use as a secret weapon but, they know that it belongs to Long Island where it might be able to stop the huge war between the two camps.

The Gods suffer from multiple disorder and are useless in this battle against the demi-gods and the mother Earth. As dangerous as it is to head to Athens, they don’t have any other option. If Gaea wakes, the game is over!

5. Statement of the Problem  The area of work revolves around the two series i.e. ten books written by the author Rick Riordan. The author incorporates his imagination about Greek and Roman mythology and creates a fictional story out of it.

6. Scope of the Study  The area of the study strictly concentrates only on Greek Mythology; from how it began to how the author Rick Riordan used his imagination in the two novels.

7. Significance of Study  This study has great significance for educational interventions; those who are into writing novels. The significance of this study will help the students to understand how to take something that is real and convert it into a creative concept.

9. Findings  The Lightning Thief: The book contains a narrator that is Percy Jackson who lives in New York and has ADHD and Dyslexia. Towards the beginning of the story, Percy encounters Ms. Dodd’s, his pre-algebra teacher who takes the form of a monster and attacks him in the museum. Later, he realizes that he is a half-blood; half human and half god and a mortal son of 34

Poseidon. In the book, along with Annabeth (mortal daughter of Athena) and Grover (a satyr) he encounters Medusa, Zeus’s Lightning Bolt and Athena Parthenos and he also goes to Tartarus to meet Hades which is a part of the actual mythology. Percy’s entire life in the book revolves around finding with the lightning thief and returning the master bolt to Lord Zeus. These were the differences from the book in the actual mythology.  The Sea of Monsters: In this book, Percy meets his half-brother named Tyson, a cyclope and he goes on a quest to the Sea of Monsters aka the Bermuda Triangle along with Annabeth to find Grover and recover the Golden Fleece. On the way, he meets Pan (the lost god of the wild). The enchanted tree that protects the camp-half blood is dying and only the Golden Fleece can save it. Percy encounters numerous mythological creatures on the way in order to save the world.  The Titan’s Curse: The book tells the story of the adventures of the fourteen-year-old demigod Percy Jackson as he and his friends go on a dangerous adventure. In this quest, they have to rescue his friend Annabeth and the Greek goddess Artemis, who have both been kidnapped. Atlas, the head Titan general, is also Zoe's father. He's forcing Artemis to hold up the weight of the world, which is the Titan's Curse. Percy temporarily takes it from her so she can battle Atlas. Luke appears and urges Thalia to join him in overthrowing Olympus. The fact that Artemis was kidnapped by the Titan Atlas is the actual fact based knowledge.  The Battle of Labyrinth: The story tells of Annabeth Chase as she leads her friends in a quest to find the inventor of the infamous Labyrinth when they discover its role in a dark plot against the camp by Kronos' Army. Kronos begins to revive from Tartarus in this book and all the demigods have to 35

make sure he doesn’t win. The book has many mythological creatures from the actual Greek folktales.  The Last Olympian: Kronos's army is stronger than ever, and with every god and halfblood he recruits, the evil Titan's power only grows. While the Olympians struggle to contain the rampaging monster Typhon, Kronos begins his advance on New York City, where Mount Olympus stands virtually unguarded. In this book, the gods and the demigods together defeat Kronos, the Titan once more.  The Lost Hero: Annabeth is disappointed that Percy isn't there, but takes Leo, Jason, and Piper back to Camp Half-Blood, where they all find out they are demigods. Leo is a son of Hephaestus, Piper is a daughter of Aphrodite, and Jason is a son of Zeus or Jupiter, though he's been chosen as the champion of Zeus's wife Hera. This series gets a touch of the Roman Gods of the Greek and Roman Folktales.  The Son of Neptune: The story follows the adventures of amnesiac Percy Jackson, a demigod son of Poseidon, as he meets a camp of Roman demigods and goes to Alaska with his new friends Hazel Levesque and Frank Zhang to free the Greek god of death, Thanatos and help save the world from Gaea, the earth goddess. This time the battle is bigger than the Titans. The war is with the Mother Earth, Gaea, the mother of the Titans.  The Mark of Athena: Mark of Athena is filled with fascinating mythology, a bold sense of adventure, and intriguing love stories all tinged with Riordan's signature demigod humor. The story is told through the eyes and ears of four demigods: Annabeth, Percy, Piper, and Leo. Annabeth has to follow a secret quest given by her mother in order to defeat Gaea, the Mother Earth when the time comes.

The House of Hades: As the novel begins, two of the story's demigods, Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase, have become separated from the others. Arachne has facilitated their fall into Tartarus, which is an abyss beneath Hades. It is important to note that Tartarus is also considered to be a deity, much like Earth, Time, and Water. The entire book is based on their quest on how they defeat the actual real monsters of Tartarus taken from the Greek Mythology.

 The Blood of Olympus: Picking up after the events of House of Hades, our heroes are divided into two groups. The first group is made up of Jason, Piper, and Leo (along with Percy, Annabeth, Frank, and Hazel). They're on the Argo II and they need to make it to the Acropolis stat. The book brings in the prophecy of seven into action.

“Seven half-bloods shall answer the call To storm or fire the world must fall.

An oath to keep with a final breath, And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death.”

Both Roman and Greek demigods together against the Mother Earth Gaea, towards the end the villain gets defeated along the monster giants.

10. Conclusion We have seen the stories of how Zeus, Hades and Poseidon evolved. We have seen few short stories in which they are the main emphasis. We have also seen their personalities, appearances, attributes, abilities and attendances. The main difference should be noted that, in the book the author has cooked up the story of how the Greek Gods and Goddesses have mortal children but, in reality according to the Greeks, their gods and goddesses only had immortal children. The author has converted the entire setting to New York and Manhattan. Just a few gists such as; Tartarus,

Mount Olympus, Medusa, Midas King and many other relevant stories are taken from the main mythology. The rest of the work is author’s creativity.

From this study we learn the ways of how one can create a fictional book, taking examples and stories from the reality.
