Andrew M. Cohen was born and raised on Long Island. Andrew holds a Juris Doctorate from Brooklyn Law School and an LLM in Taxation from the University of Miami, School of Law.

Andrew is an attorney with a private practice that focuses on trusts and estates law, elder law and guardianship law. Andrew provides comprehensive estate planning for his clients with a special emphasis on assisting families who have loved ones with special needs. Andrew strives to provide his clients with exceptional representation and support so that they feel comfortable throughout the scope of the legal representation. Andrew understands the stress that families with special needs members endure, and he is committed to easing the burden that these families are often faced with.

The representation that he provides includes the preparation of estate planning documents such as Last Will and Testaments, Trusts, advance directives and related documents. Additionally, Andrew has extensive experience in petitioning for guardianship so that family members are vested with the appropriate authority to ensure that their loved ones with special needs are protected throughout their lifetime. On numerous occasions, Andrew has provided his legal services on a pro bono basis for families in crisis.

Andrew is trained and certified as a New York State Part 36 Guardian and as a Part 36 Supplemental Needs Trustee. As such, Andrew has been appointed by various courts to serve as Guardian or Trustee for disabled individuals. Andrew is a member of the New York State Bar Association, and is active in the trusts and estates and elder law sections.

Q&A

What/who inspired you to be on the path you’re on today?

My kids are my daily inspiration. They keep me motivated, grounded and remind me that at the end of each day that practicing law is really about the people you serve and not the overwhelming business that attorneys tend to get too caught up in.
