Art Walk
Giving 'street art' a new meaning
Every year, Malverne’s streets come to life with artwork with the village’s annual Art Walk. Organized by the Malverne Chamber of Commerce, the event showcases the work of numerous Long Island artists in stores and storefronts throughout the community, a crosspromotional event bringing attention to local artists and businesses.
From elementary school students to 94-year-olds, the Art Walk takes submissions from a diverse range of artists working in a range of styles and media. “It was a several month process. We put out a call for local artists, from Malverne and all through Long Island, to submit samples," explained chamber president Maria Casini. This year, the chamber collected more than 120 pieces, which were stored at Malverne Cinema before being displayed. The Art Walk's 2022 edition, held last June, was supported by a grant from the Huntington Arts Council, allowing for expanded art displays. With business-lined Hempstead Avenue serving as Malverne’s central traffic artery, it naturally serves as the Art Walk’s focal point each year. Locations on adjoining streets display, art as well, like the Malverne Public Library on St. Thomas Place. Ultimately, the Art Walk serves as an invitation for people to explore Malverne. People can peruse from shop to shop, admiring the work of their local artists while seeing what Malverne’s various vendors have
