Did you know?
• The East Meadow School District is among the oldest in New York state and has continuously educated students for more than 200 years. The districts earliest students were taught in a rural one-room schoolhouse on the northwest corner of Front Street and Newbridge Avenue, now East
Meadow Avenue. • Before Nassau University Medical
Center was the 19-story hospital it is today, it was a 200-bed community hospital called Meadowbrook Hospital.
It opened in 1935 and was not reconstructed and renamed until 1970. • Eisenhower Park is roughly 1.46 square miles and larger than Manhattan’s Central Park, which is roughly 1.32 square miles. • Matt Serra, former UFC Welterweight
Champion, grew up in East Meadow before establishing his mixed martial arts training centers on Long Island.
This year, he was accepted into the
UFC Hall of Fame. • Joy Mangano, the entrepreneur and inventor of the self-wringing Miracle
Mop, was born in East Meadow in 1956. • Jenna Ushkowitz, who played the character Tina Cohen-Chang on the
Fox comedy-drama series “Glee,” was raised in East Meadow, moving from
Seoul, South Korea, after she was adopted at 3, in 1989. • Snapple was previously headquartered in East Meadow before moving to its corporate offi ce in Plano, Texas. The offi ce is now occupied by the Epilepsy
Foundation of Long Island. • Eleanor Roosevelt, the former First
Lady of the U.S., spent part of her childhood in East Meadow.
