PSEG Long Island is thrilled to once again sponsor the Herald’s Long Island Choice Awards. We encourage you to nominate your favorite local business so they get some added publicity and keep our downtown areas thriving.
Why does PSEG Long Island care about local businesses?
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, they account for about 44% of our national economic activity. Locally, on Long Island, they are our economic backbone. According to the Long Island Association, roughly 90% of the businesses here are small or medium-sized. Supporting small businesses means keeping our local commercial districts thriving, which optimizes electric usage in our communities.
PSEG Long Island has been supporting small businesses since 2018 with economic development grants and other incentives that keep local commercial districts booming.

The initiative includes a visit
from a PSEG Long Island Energy Consultant who will conduct a free energy assessment, followed by an assortment of suggestions and options.
Guy Brogna, owner of All Music Inc. in Plainview, was getting tired of replacing ballasts and light bulbs in his music instrument shop. He sent an email to PSEG Long Island and received a response with a
list of local contractors who were energy consultants. He called one, who came in and went room by room, light by light and came up with a plan.
Brogna received $5,900 in PSEG Long Island rebates to replace his store’s old lighting with energyin a basement location and having the proper lighting to make all the guitars and equipment look great is important. Now everything is much brighter—and more costeffective.
“I’m saving about $1,800 a year in energy costs with LED lighting,” he said.
Since 2015, PSEG Long Island’s business customers have completed a total of 26,300 projects, earning $215 million in rebates and incentives. The installed energy conservation

Restoring our Downtowns
the strength and vibrancy of Long Island communities more than its downtowns. Recognizing their
importance PSEG Long Island has placed considerable resources into its Main Street Revitalization
incentive awards for projects in a local business district that are likely to improve the economic stability and growth of the community. Eligible projects may include interior renovations, storefront or façade improvements, streetscape improvements, and engaging design elements that contribute to a robust “Main Street” that, in turn, encourages commerce.

John Riley loves comic books. For the last 30 years, he’s been sharing that love with readers young and old. And we’ve been with John every step of the way, helping plan improvements ranging from upgrading LED lighting to replacing a 50-year-old oil tank with a super-efficient heat pump. These upgrades save him money that he reinvests in—you guessed it—more comic books. As it should be.
