End NEW IN TOWN

ANGELS IN ARCADIA

One of Phoenix’s popular breweries opens its second location with a twist

Since 2012, Angels Trumpet Ale House has been a staple of Downtown Phoenix. But, owners Sharry and Mat Englehorn always had bigger plans. As Arcadia-area residents, the couple always knew they eventually wanted to open a location in their own backyard. “We’ve now officially realized our dream,” says Mat, who with Sharry opened Angels Trumpet Arcadia inside the Arcadia Crossing Shopping Center on Thomas and 44th streets this month. “And while still a beer-lovers heaven on earth, the location will also share its brew-infused space with our newest passion project, a craft cocktail lounge named Tall Glass.”

Angels Trumpet Angels Trumpet Arcadia, formerly the 10,000-square-foot Sears Auto Center, has been completely restored and revitalized with a midcentury modern motif, but still has a bit of a garage – albeit stylish – feel. At sunset, guests will be able to catch views of Camelback Mountain thanks to the ample glass doors that adorn the building and inside-outside patio. Altogether, the venue can seat 240 guests and boasts a

fully private 46-person dining room with television and audio capabilities. On the food side, the menu features the same acclaimed menu as the original, both for lunch and dinner (and yes, happy hour, too!) including such favorites as Angels wings ($11.50), served naked with dipping sauced; and The Tractor ($11), a housemade pizza consisting of eggs, bacon, Brussels sprouts and more. But, what about the beer? “Of course, we also offer our signature and ever-changing selection of local and national craft beers on tap, with the day’s offerings written on an oversized slate chalkboard,” Mat explains. The craft beer selection constantly rotates between 31 handless, including current favorites: Ballast Point Fathom IPA ($6), Ace Space Bloody Orange ($7), Maui Bikini Blonde Lager ($6), and Samuel Smith’s Nut Brown Ale ($7).

Tall Glass Tall Glass is a separate craft cocktail lounge with its own entrance and extensive menu of craft cocktails, including spirits from craft beer distilleries such as Rouge Spirits and Cutwater Spirits. “Here, guests will be able to belly up to the 40-seat island-style bar, relax in a cozy booth, or unwind on an outdoor patio featuring a mature paloverde shade tree, all hidden behind a stylish, perforated steel fence,” Mat says. The couple also plans to eventually open a small microbrewery onsite, which Mat describes as, “an intimate brewer’s playground, where we’ll make the sort of beers that we like to drink.” Angels Trumpet Arcadia is open daily from 11 a.m. to midnight, while Tall Glass is open daily from the late afternoon (times will vary) to midnight. Opening this month, Angels Trumpet Arcadia, 2339 N. 44th Street, Phoenix; www.angelstrumpetalehouse.com.
