FEED THE FAM GETTIN’ JAZZY

In celebration of local women musicians, The Nash jazz venue has opened enrollment for its all-female jazz musician program. Phoenix Jazz Girls Rising, open to girls ages 10 to 17 and led by saxophonist Mary Petrich and pianist Claudia Bloom, aims to provide an empowering, judgement-free environment for young women to grow as musicians. During the eight-week program, held every Saturday from Sept. 19 to Nov. 7, the group will learn well-known jazz songs and create improvised solos to encourage self-expression. Due to the coronavirus, classes will begin online and move to an in-person environment when, and if, it’s safe to do so. The program will culminate with a public performance at The Nash. $100. www. phoenixjazzgirlsrising.com.

Royse Contemporary art gallery – which celebrates its three-year anniversary this month – has unveiled a dynamic multimedia exhibition, Elements of Style II, on display through Sept. 27. Featuring works from 12 Arizona artists, the exhibit showcases vibrant colors and striking imagery, with an eclectic selection of photography, assemblage, painting, and more. The gallery has limited public hours including: 6-8 p.m. on Thursdays, 1-4 p.m. on Saturdays, and 6-8 p.m. for the weekly Scottsdale ArtWalk. Private appointments are available, and a limited number of patrons are permitted in the gallery at once. www.roysecontemporary.com.
