T
he most exciting two minutes in sports just got even better. While the buildup to the race is a long, fun party, the race itself is short and intense with a winning purse of $2 million at stake. For the second year in a row, the Stella Artois Derby DayClub – one of the biggest parties to celebrate the Kentucky Derby, America’s most famous horse race – will take place at Turf Paradise.

“With the pageantry and tradition, there’s nothing like the Kentucky Derby,” says Jason Rose, founder of the Stella Artois Derby DayClub. “Here in Arizona, the historic Turf Paradise and Stella Artois Derby DayClub is the perfect setting to sip a mint julep, place your bet, and take in the longest continually held sporting event in America.” It’s also the only Kentucky Derby party in Arizona with live racing and betting. According to Rose, in addition to being able to bet on the big race (and those leading up to it), guests are also able to bet on a series of live horseraces taking place at Turf Paradise throughout the day. There are also a host of new elements added this year, including: • The Hefeweizen Beer Garden, presented by Hensley Beverage Company, featuring wheat and craft beers. • Additional betting terminals and giant flat screen TVs throughout. • The Sanderson Lincoln Black Label VIP Lounge, a shaded, air-cooled tent track-side with a complimentary buffet and cocktails for all guests. All tables will include a complimentary bottle of Chandon Champagne as well. The event encourages all guests to dress the part, with their best pastels, bow ties and audacious headwear – the bolder the better. “The Derby itself is the first race within the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing, where it is followed by the Preakness Stakes race and the Belmont Stakes race,” Rose says. “Twenty horses compete in the Kentucky Derby, a larger field size than most horse races, which typically feature eight competitors.” The 20 horses racing in the Kentucky Derby must first travel along the Road to the Kentucky Derby, a series of 35 races taking place at tracks across the country and the world. “But to enjoy it, you just need to trek to Turf Paradise in your Derby best!” Rose says.
