t all started with a scrunchie, a sewing machine and a dream. “I may have grown up in a small town in Maine, but thanks to my seamstress mother, my style was on point practically from the womb,” says Risa Kostis, who would sit with her mother sewing custom scrunchies to match her mom’s custom-made looks each day. “It was like I had a ready-to-wear collection at my fingertips daily!” Couple this with Kostis’ love of theater, performing and Broadway – especially the costumes and wardrobe – and the seeds of style were firmly planted before she could even drive. But, she was initially destined for a different path.
