COMPASSIONATE AND DOWN TO EARTH Deanna F. Longtin

Deanna F. Longtin of Longtin Law Office is not your typical attorney thanks to her approachability and understanding of human nature. With more than a decade of experience practicing law under her belt, Deanna has a soft spot for cases that many others won’t touch. “I advocate for victims of domestic violence and domestic abuse. Not everyone is cut out for that area of work, however, I willingly jump into that arena to defend someone I believe has been wrongfully accused or on the flip side to advocate for someone who needs help finding their voice,” she says. After earning her law degree at the age of 36, Deanna’s legal career began in North Dakota in a town of 1,200 people. She was known in the tri-county area as the “lady lawyer on Main Street” which brought her a multitude of legal opportunities. “I was one of the first court appointed mediators in North Dakota and involved in the pilot project that the state had implemented. Since that time, I have conducted or been involved in over 400 mediations. And I love every minute of it!” she shares. Today, Deanna is focused on her Scottsdale location with a concentration on family law, mediation, and domestic disputes. She brings a great deal to the table with her knowledge of different areas of law and business experience, which helps her clients and mediations be more successful. Her background in criminal defense also gives her a unique perspective about cases involving domestic violence, and not always a popular one. “I will defend a man against a protection order if I

believe he has been wrongfully accused,” Deanna says. “Most people don’t realize that a domestic violence protection order can destroy a person’s life.” Family is important to Deanna and she is dedicated to fighting for families that need a voice. Whether it’s mediating during divorce or child custody cases or personal issues such as parent-teen disputes, she has a passion for the process and loves watching the participants see the light and actually hear the other party or feel heard. Compassion, empathy, and understanding is what Longtin Law Office is built upon. “I understand how small issues can really impact a person’s life. A two-minute phone call can make or break a weekend or holiday and I try to be there as much as possible to answer those questions and deal with issues immediately,” Deanna says. Along with growing her practice, Deanna will continue to focus on DaEA, her workshops for Domestic abuse Education and Awareness. “DaEA has an emphasis on educating men to identify an unhealthy relationship and to be aware of when other men are victims of mental/emotional abuse, while teaching them what to do to get out of it, and teaching women to identify abusers or unhealthy relationships by working on themselves,” she shares.
