Fridays through Sept. 2, Desert Botanical Garden

The desert is cooler at night when the sun goes down and plants and creatures come to life. On Saturday nights, bring a flashlight and enjoy Desert Botanical Garden after dark with performances, treats, hands-on activities, and creature features. August nights will feature entertainment by Isabella Olson Orozco (August 5), Ernesto Razo (August 12), Ballet Folklórico Esperanza (August 19) and Harmony Project – Orqusta Caribeña (August 26 and September 2). The Phoenix Herpetological Society (August 5 and 19, and September 2) and Liberty Wildlife (August 12 and 26) will provide educational sessions on the animals of the desert. 6:30-9 p.m. General admision, $16.95; Garden members, free. www.dbg.org.

Celebrate Hip Hop

Aug. 12 & 13, Musical Instrument Museum

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop with dance workshops and musical performances. On Saturday, admission to the Mega Ran concert and album release is included with event tickets. Dancing for one-n-ten

Community leaders will perform with professional dancers to raise funds for one-n-ten, an organization that provides resources, mentorship opportunities, and educational support for LGBTQ+ youth. Valley Youth Theatre’s VYTal Affair

Valley Youth Theatre’s annual fundraiser helps support award-winning productions, education, and outreach programs. The new season kicks off with a performance of Cinderella, so the VYTal Affair’s theme will be “Show Us Your Shoes.” The event will feature food, entertainment, and the fanciest shoes around, along with the opportunity to support youth and the arts. 5-10 p.m. www.vyt.com.

The Australian Pink Floyd Show: The Darkside 50 Tour

It’s been 50 years since the release of Pink Floyd’s popular album The Dark Side of the Moon. Performing the music of Pink Floyd, this critically acclaimed show strives to reproduce the complete Pink Floyd experience and bring the music to new audiences. The show will feature state-of-the-art lighting and video, pinpoint lasers, gargantuan inflatables and flawless live sound. The Dark Side of the Moon will be performed in its entirety for the first half of the show, while the second half will feature a selection of Pink Floyd’s iconic songs. 7 p.m. $68-$88. www.chandlercenter.org.

Beetlejuice

Based on Tim Burton’s film, the musical tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose whole life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon with a thing for stripes.

Beyoncé Renaissance World Tour

Aug. 24, State Farm Stadium

Beyoncé has officially returned to the stage for her first solo tour in more than six years. The concert, stopping in the Valley for one night only, will feature tracks from her 2022 album of the same name, along with more of the legendary pop stars mega hits. With flashy sets and dynamic dance performances, the show will give members of the Beyhive the night of their lives. 7 p.m. Prices vary. www.statefarmstadium.com.

Cactus Classic

Aug. 26, Silverado Golf Club

Support children impacted by disasters at Comfort Bears in a Catastrophe’s scramble-format golf tournament that will include breakfast, lunch, and two drink tickets for every golfer. There will also be a hole-in-one contest and chances to win prizes. Golfers will receive a player’s gift, get heckled by professional hole hecklers, and enjoy the day on a beautiful course. Comfort Bears in a Catastrophe is an organization that provides a stuffed bear and a handwritten note of encouragement to children facing trauma. Full Moon Rising Tour

Aug. 30, Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center

Ever wondered about the nocturnal activities of desert native wildlife? A guided tour of the conservation center by the light of a full moon can give a glimpse. If lucky, tourgoers might hear a serenade from the Mexican gray wolves or the tiny howl of the grasshopper mouse. Attendees may see the courting dance of a tarantula or the climbing acrobatics of coati. Reservations are required. Tours are outdoors, so dress accordingly with close-toed shoes and bring water.
