Upscale tech-driven mini-golf experience Puttshack opens at Scottsdale Quarter

BY ALISON BAILIN BATZ

Four to a skateboard park. But the mini golf is just the beginning. There are guest DJs invited in often and when they’re not performing, music is pumping throughout Puttshack, helping keep up a nightclub-like vibe. In fact, dancing along the course is encouraged.

Remember good old-fashioned mini golf courses from the 1980s and 1990s, complete with windmill obstacles and manmade waterfalls? Well, Puttshack is not that kind of mini golf course.

Now open at Scottsdale Quarter, Puttshack is a 25,000-square-foot, twostory entertainment destination unlike anything else in the Valley. It features four competitive courses, each with nine holes. The courses are integrated with Puttshack’s patented Trackaball technology, which powers the entire gameplay experience and provides seamless automated scoring, bonus point opportunities, and interactive games at each hole.

Visually, the space feels like an interactive art installation with glow-in-the-dark elements in every direction, bright colors from floor to ceiling, and themed holes. One of the most popular holes is modeled after beer pong, but with golf balls. Another, called ring of fire, is an obstacle course-inspired hole that challenges players to make choices – play it safe or attempt the wild ramps and hazards – for the chance at a hole in one. Other holes are modeled after everything from a giant-sized Connect

The space is also home to a sit-down restaurant and full-scale cocktail bar. The food menu is globally inspired with items like falafel cakes with chickpea fritters, rainbow slaw, tahini dipping sauce ($11); wood-fired Thai octopus with sesame peanut sauce ($19); Mediterranean lamb skewers ($15); and a Tuscan pork porchetta sandwich with slow-roasted garlic herb pork belly ($18). There is also a lengthy menu of flatbreads, salads, and sandwiches, as well as a signature appetizer called the Arizona tailpipe, which is a spring roll filled with chimichanga chicken, chihuahua cheese, sauteed veggies, and refried beans ($14). A portion of proceeds from every sale of this item benefits the Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center, a local nonprofit dedicated to rescuing, providing sanctuary, and rehabilitating wildlife that has been displaced or orphaned until they are ready to be returned to their natural homes in the wild.

The cocktail menu, featuring 10 signature offerings ranging from $13 to $16, includes a frozen prickly pear margarita ($14), a cold-brew espresso martini ($14), and a spiced pineapple mezcal margarita with a jalapeno-infused popsicle as garnish ($16). There are also ample beers and wines, by both the glass and bottle.

Puttshack is open Sunday to Wednesday from 11 a.m. to midnight and Thursday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Kids and young adults under 21 are welcome until 8 p.m. nightly, after which it becomes an adults-only venue.
