Marla Jeane Fortun – Dopson gained her Angel wings on Monday, March 20, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family. Marla Jeane Fortun was born on November 13, 1963, in Viroqua, WI to Martin and Ronda (Pellett) Fortun. Marla attended Kickapoo Area Schools and lived in the Viola area all her life. Marla’s greatest treasure was her family, and she loved and accepted everyone as family. Marla enjoyed campfires, camping, spontaneous outings, cookouts, and was always up for an adventure. Marla will forever be known for her love and kindness to all people, her infectious laugh and smile, her love of tie-dye, and never knowing a stranger. Marla worked various jobs including: Meca Sportswear, Springdale Cheese Factory, Hillsboro Footwear, several nursing homes as a CNA, GoMacro, Hillsboro Hardwoods, and Bergums Food Mart. She was a lover of crafts and animals and always made sure to attend her grandkids’ sporting events. Marla was well known for playing kickball with neighborhood kids. Her family always remembered Marla going out to the train tracks and laying coins out on the tracks for the trains to flatten, which was something that always gave her a big smile. Marla is survived by her parents, Martin and Ronda Fortun of Viola; her children, Marronda (Aaron) Appleman of LaFarge and Missea (James) Strothman of Viola; her grandchildren: Metayah, Majesta, Mohnee Strothman, Raevyn Hicks, Daija McNamer, Terrio Henderson, and Naysion Henderson; and her great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Curry; and her brothers, Marty (Lisa) Fortun of Green Bay and Rocky (Amy) Fortun of New Hampshire. She is further survived by her sisters-in-law: Donna Dopson, Suzanne (Scott) Keyser, Kimberly (Greg) Severson, and Karen Heried; and brothers-in-law, Steven Dopson and Larry Clark. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Marla was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; mother and father-in-law; her husband and love of her life, Greg Dopson; brothers-in law: James Dopson, Kenny (Jo) Dopson, Butch (Barb) Rutherford, and Gary Heried; sister-in-law, Betty Clark; her granddaughter, Murcei Gladys Glee Strothman; and her nephews, Bryden Hanson and Jesse Keyser. A Celebration of Marla’s Life was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the Viola United Methodist Church. Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24, at the Viola United Methodist Church Additional visitation was held Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Marla will be laid to rest at a later date at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com. Alan Charles Welte, 90, of Richland Center, died Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital. He was born on November 22, 1932 in Metamora, Illinois the son of Charles and Mary (Miller) Welte. While in school Alan was presented an American Legion Medal and the Babe Ruth Foundation Sportsmanship Award. He was in the US Army during the Korean Conflict serving in Korea for 17 months in the DMZ, as a heavy equipment mechanic. He received the Korean Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and Korea Presidential Unit Citation Medal. Alan was united in marriage to June Verdun January 22, 1955 in a double wedding with June’s twin sister JoAnn Verdun and Ray Hoegger in St Paul’s Catholic Church in Odell, Illinois. After his honorable discharge he and June farmed in Odell for 4 years before purchasing a farm in Richland County. The couple retired in 1997 and moved into Richland Center. After his retirement Alan worked on a 300-acre tree farm for 22 years. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, dancing, and country music. Alan was a proud member of VFW Post 2267. He always promised June, he would take her to see Washington DC and 46 years after he made the promise, he was able to keep his word to his loving wife. Alan was happiest when he was with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alan is survived by his wife of 68 years June Welte of Richland Center; Children: Suzanne (Calvin) Sebranek of Richland Center, Charles (Janie) Welte of Washington, Duane (Shirley) Welte of Richland Center, Donna (Mike) Gethings of Sextonville, David (Paula) Welte of Richland Center, Nancy Coffman of Minnesota; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; Brothers: Robert (Madonna) Welte of Branson, MO, Mark (Barbara) Welte of Richland Center, Stephan (Sandra) Welte of Richland Center; Brother-in-law: James Krause of Illinois; Sisters-in-law: Mary Kathryn Louis, JoAnn Hoegger, Catherine Verdun all of Illinois; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Alan was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Richard Unbehaun, brother Francis Welte and sister Iloe Krause, in-laws Harry and Anna (Close) Verdun, sisters-in-law Phyllis (John) Cleary, Helen J. (Charles) Strickland, brothers-in-law John Louis, Ray Hoegger, and Harry J. Verdun. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Pratt Memorial Chapel. Burial with military graveside rites will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at the Pratt Memorial Chapel from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 3:45 PM. Visitation will also be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at the Pratt Memorial Chapel from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.
