OBITUARIES Thomas Lee Adams
LeRoy E. Leeck, 92, of Avoca, Wisconsin, died on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. LeRoy was born on March 15, 1929 in Burt, Iowa, son of Herman and Ida (Bussie) Leeck. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Kienitz on March 3, 1951 at the Pulaski Presbyterian Church, Muscoda. She preceded him in death on May 1, 1998. On September 29, 2001 LeRoy was married to Shirley (Gumz) Kienitz at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Avoca. LeRoy served in the United States Air Force during the Korean war, July 13, 1951 – July 12, 1955. After his service he farmed in the Avoca area for 12 years. He then worked at Badger Ammo, and later, for 17 years, worked for the Village of Avoca until he retired. For 24 years LeRoy worked for the Godager Funeral Home, Muscoda. As a young man he enjoyed playing the accordion and roller skating. He liked woodworking, camping, watching birds, and took great pride in canning vegetables and making his homemade noodles and apple pies. LeRoy is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Dale (Debbie) Leeck, Gary Leeck, Mark (Heidi) Leeck, Amy Jo (Mike) Mellor, Valerie (Mike) Bailey, Debra Schwingel, Sheila Olson, and Michael (Joan) Kienetz; 26 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marlene (Richard) Frambach; two sisters-in-law, Verdell and Joanne Leek. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, parents, five brothers, Ranney, Herbert, Art, William “Toots” Leek and Vern Leeck. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 29, 2021 at the United Presbyterian Church of Muscoda. Pastor Ramona Orton officiated. Burial was at the Avoca Cemetery, where military rites were accorded. Friends called from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, served the family. Thomas Lee Adams ‘Tommy 2 Stripes’, 45, Richland Center, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Meriter Hospital in Madison. He was born on May 21, 1976, in Richland Center, the son of Marion and Barbara (Black) Adams. Thomas graduated from Richland Center High School in 1994. He married Kimberly Paul on September 17, 2002, in Richland Center. Thomas worked at Rockwell Automation for 26 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Thomas loved volunteering and drag racing at the Hillsboro Drag-a-way. He spent a lot of his free time with his family camping, truck pulling, and attending racing events. Thomas pursued his dream and started his business Adams Custom Engraving in 2015. Thomas is survived by his wife of 19 years Kimberly, four children: Trey Adams, Brooklyn Adams, Brandon Adams, Brionna Adams; sister Teena (Chris) Mayne; brothers and sisters-in-law: John Paul, Jennifer (Jeff Alvin) Paul, Michael (Casey) Paul, Kristina Paul; nephew and nieces: Joshua Mayne, Jaylynn, Janessa, Jemma Paul, special cats: Bob, Jim, Fred, many friends, and other relatives. Thomas was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, parents Marion and Barbara, father and mother-in-law Ricky and Norma Paul, sister-in-law Melissa Paul, good friend Erik Schauer ‘Skinny’, and cat Captn. Dan. A Celebration of Life was held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at the Pratt Memorial Chapel. Visitation was held on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at the Pratt Memorial Chapel from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at the Pratt Memorial Chapel from 12:00 PM until the service at 1:00 PM. Masks are optional and casual attire is suggested. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Thomas’s name can be directed to the family. Robert “Carl” Shoemaker, 80, of Richland Center, Wisconsin died on October 31, 2021, at Agrace HospiceCare, Janesville, Wisconsin. Carl was born on October 22, 1941 in Princeton, Indiana, the son of Carl and Betty (Brownley) Shoemaker. Carl graduated from Niles High School, Skokie, Illinois; and from Luther College, Wahoo, Nebraska. Carl married his high school sweetheart, Linda Lantz on October 15, 1959. They had two children, a son Robert Carl “Bob” Shoemaker, and a daughter Victoria Lynn Shoemaker. Carl worked in sales most of his adult life. He sold for Norcross Greeting Cards in Chicago before moving his family to Richland Center, Wisconsin, where he sold for multiple entities including Dodgeland Harvestore and National Chemsearch. During his career, Carl always excelled and earned many awards and accolades for his personal sales as well as the sales teams he trained and built along the way. He thoroughly enjoyed his many customers and colleagues, building relationships and creating many friendships along the way. Carl took great pride in his work, his family and his home. In his free time, he enjoyed working on his hobby farm, refinishing antique furniture, watching the Chicago Bears, and spending summers on the lake in northern Wisconsin. Carl is survived by his wife of 62 years, Linda; son, Bob (Lauren) Shoemaker of St. Peter, Minnesota; daughter, Victoria (Keith) Ruetten of Richland Center, Wisconsin. Five grandchildren, Aaron Shoemaker (special friend Ally), of Chicago, Illinois; Kendra Shoemaker of Newport Beach, California; Emma Ruetten, Abby Ruetten, and Eric Ruetten, all of Richland Center, Wisconsin. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Kenneth (Barbara) Lantz of Round Lake, Illinois; nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2021 from Noon to 3:00 PM at the Clary Memorial Funeral Home in Richland Center. A funeral service for his family will be held at a later time. Stanley Duane Dilley, age 78, of rural Blue River, passed away Monday, November 1, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, WI. He was born on November 4, 1942, at home in Crawford County, the son of William and Ethel (Copus) Dilley. He graduated from Boscobel High School in 1961. Stanley met Rita, the love of his life, while raking hay. He married Rita Kay Goplin on September 11, 1965, at the Blue River United Methodist Church. Stanley worked at the University of Wisconsin Arlington Farm, Morrisville Feed Mill, and in 1969 moved to Boaz area, purchasing with his father-in-law Jesse, the Boaz Feed Mill. Stanley operated the Boaz Feed Mill for 25 years before retiring and then worked at Cardinal Glass for 10 years, while he continued farming. He enjoyed gardening, cutting wood, fishing, turkey hunting, and horseshoes. Most of all spending time with his kids and grandkids. Survivors include his wife Rita of Blue River; 3 children, Amy Louis (Troy Wardell) of Blue River, Kris (Doug) Kratochwill of Richland Center, Shane (Cherith) Dilley of Blue River; 11 grandchildren, Dillon (Michelle) Louis, Travis (Julie) Louis, Shaylyn Louis (special friend Cauy Isaacson), Samuel and Wryn Kratochwill, Chase, Kadin, Justice, Ty, and Violet Dilley, Destiny DeFabbio; 4 great grandchildren Everett, Ellie, Tensley, and Isabella; a sister, Miona Young of Boscobel; 2 brothers, George Dilley of Boscobel, John (Leila) Dilley of Pardeeville; a sister-in-law, Pat Dilley of Janesville; 2 brothers-in-law, Wayne (Luanne) Goplin of Gays Mills, Ron (Debra) Goplin of Cross Plains; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Meredith (George) Hembree, Willa (Raymond) Monroe; 4 brothers, Manual, Frank, Ben and Clarence Dilley. A celebration of Stanley’s life was held on Friday, November 5, 2021, at 6:00 PM at the Clary Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Rob Richards officiating. Visitation was Friday, November 5, 2021 from 2:00 PM until the time of services at Clary Memorial Funeral Home. Ronald Lee Schmidt
Ronald Lee Schmidt, age 82, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at home in Gotham, WI. He was born on August 20, 1939, the son of Leonard Robert & Gladys Donnie (Schweiger) Schmidt in Clifford Township, Monroe County, WI. He married Marilyn Marie Mayfield at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Richland Center on June 10, 1961. After graduating from Ithaca High School in 1957, Ron immediately served in the Marine Corp for 4 years. While stationed in Okinawa, Japan, he achieved the rank of Lance Corporal. Upon returning home in 1961, Ron began farming in Gotham with his parents on the old Clarence Cooper farm. Marriage to Marilyn and his first son came soon afterwards. Ron grew the farm over the years, expanding from milking about 40 cows on 160 acres to milking 120 cows on over 600 acres. Ron and Marilyn were proudly named the Outstanding Young Farmers for Richland County in 1970. This week, the families of his son Randy and grandson Ryan will be similarly honored. While farming, Ron helped many hired men get off on the right foot. He was always willing to help a fellow farmer, neighbor or friend who could use a hand or a few dollars. He greatly enjoyed running and fixing machinery, teaching many how to drive tractor. He greatly enjoyed fall harvest, driving his TR75 New Holland combine. Fall of 2021 was Ron’s last harvest. When not farming, Ron thoroughly enjoyed life, whether it be at a car race, Badger game, hunting trip or standing in a circle of good friends. “I’m glad you got to see me” was a popular wisecrack of his. Ron and Marilyn loved dancing and traveling. Trips included the Hawaiian Islands and boating down the Mississippi River with friends, venturing from Lacrosse to St. Louis through 24 locks. Ron’s grandchildren were also a major highlight of his life and he loved attending their events. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Schmidt of Gotham, WI, his sister, Donna Mae (George) Kelbel of Hillsboro, two sons, Richard “Rick” (Ann) Schmidt of Madison and Randall “Randy” (Shelly) Schmidt of Gotham, seven grandchildren: Regan, Ryan (Chrissy), Logan (Emily), Courtney, Russell (Crystal), Abigail (Ben) and Kevin, and two great-granddaughters: Lillian and Addison. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Gladys, his parents in-law, Asa and Mildred Mayfield, and several in-laws, nephews and friends. Visitation was held at Clary Memorial Funeral Home in Richland Center, WI, on Sunday, November 7, 2021, from 1-4 pm and on Monday, November 8, 2021, at 10 AM, followed by a funeral at 11AM. Lunch was served afterwards at the Phoenix Center in Richland Center. The family would like to thank all of the health care providers who helped Ron in his home, at Pine Valley and at RC Hospital. Special thanks goes to Jaime, Rita, Bernie, Valerie and Erika and to our Muckler neighbors.
