January 30, 2019 Bruce Gabrys, 63, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Eagle River, Alaska, passed into eternity on Jan. 30, 2019 after a year-long battle with cancer side-lined this tenacious and industrious man. Upon graduation from UW-Madison, where Bruce met the woman he would forever introduce as “my beautiful wife Theresa Ramsden,” he earned a commission in the US Army and was assigned to Fort Richardson. In January 1979, the two braved the Alcan Highway. Stopping along the way to help a stranger in need, Bruce made a life-long friend who introduced him to the challenge of Cook Inlet commercial fishing, which quickly became an annual summer “fish camp” adventure involving the entire Gabrys family for over 35 years. Bruce devoted himself to the responsible use of the Wild Alaska resources by serving on numerous fishing boards until his death. To remain in the state he and Theresa had fallen in love with, Bruce transferred from active duty to the Alaska Army National Guard fulltime, from which he retired as Lieutenant Colonel after 20 years of distinguished service. Upon this “second retirement,” this untiring businessman earned his MBA degree and CPA license, culminating in the creation of his own CPA practice to work from the comfort of his home office. A lifelong Roman Catholic, Bruce was faithfully devoted to St. Andrew’s Parish, serving its community through a variety of roles. When asked “How are things?” he would never fail to respond “Just another day in Paradise!” When you love your God, your family, and your work, even this life can be a paradise. Bruce is survived by his devoted wife Theresa; siblings Margaret, Leonard, and Robert; children Johanna, Stephanie, and Paul; and seven grandchildren. A Funeral Mass was held in Eagle River Alaska on Saturday, February 9, 2019. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Avoca, WI on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 12:00 PM. Burial with military graveside rites will follow in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Saturday, February 16, 2019 from 11:00 AM until the time of the mass at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests donations be made to the St. Andrew’s

January 31, 2019 Bonnie Rae Stafford, age 67, of Richland Center died Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Pine Valley Community Village in Richland Center. She was born on December 12, 1951, the daughter of Louis Gordon and Frieda (Bruenning) Jones in Kenosha, WI. Bonnie was a waitress for 40 years of her life. Meeting new people, serving people, getting to know people is what she enjoyed doing. It suited her servant heart. Her real and abiding passions were her family and friends. Bonnie’s 2 boys and 3 grandchildren were her passion for life and what kept her fighting. She never missed Fred’s sporting events through school, she was always in the crowd cheering and supporting, which didn’t change when it came to her grandkids. She loved watching them, watching them grow, constantly making her smile and laugh, giving her joy every single day. Bonnie was a fighter, one of the strongest, toughest women there is. She had a rough life, but did it with so much joy. She will be truly missed and was an inspiration to never let life knock you down. Survivors include 2 children, James Stafford, Fred (Sara) Jones; 3 grandchildren, Zander, Rainey, and Maddix Jones; brother, Daniel Jones; sisters, Marion Mielke and Kathleen Christman. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother David Jones. A Celebration of Bonnie’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at 6:00 PM at Richland Center Fellowship with visitation from 4 PM to 6:00 PM. February 1, 2019 Bernard J. Hanko, age 92, of Cazenovia, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019. He was born on May 17, 1926, at home in rural Cazenovia, the son of Edward J. and Elise (Braund) Hanko. On August 23, 1947, Bernard was united in marriage to Elizabeth J. Kneip. This marriage was blessed with two children. Bernard was a life-long farmer. For 20 years, in addition to farming, he was employed with Kraemer Construction. He enjoyed being outdoors especially lawn mowing and working in the woods. He was a NASCAR fan and listened to classic country music. Bernard was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Cazenovia. He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Judith Lynn Hanko. Bernard is survived by his wife, Betty; Son, Donald Hanko; Grandchildren: Lisa Laverty, Tammy Fowell, Julie Potts, Heidi Meyerscough, and Kristin (Billy) McAlpine; 17 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; sister, Priscilla Burdick along with nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Germantown, with Father Nathan Thainase officiating. Visitation was held on Wednesday morning beginning at 9:00 AM. The Rosary was prayed Wednesday morning at 10:40 before the Mass. Burial took place on Saturday, February 9, in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery, Germantown. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church for Masses. The Farber Funeral Home, Reedsburg, is assisting the family.

February 7, 2019 Donald James Pearsall, age 78 years, of Richland Center, Wisconsin, died on Thursday, February 7, 2019, at the Richland Center Hospital. He was born on June 2, 1940, at home near Elroy, Wisconsin, to Margaret (Bogardus) and James Pearsall. He graduated from the Elroy High School. Don was united in marriage in October of 1959 to Judith Olson. They divorced after 25 years of marriage and he spent the rest of his years with his friend and life partner, Agnes Dearborn. As a young man, Don worked at American Motors in Milwaukee, Badger Ammunition Plant and then farmed at East Troy and in Richland County. He later left farming and went to work as a heavy equipment operator before retiring in 2003. Don was a proud retiree of the Operating Engineers Local 139 until the time of his death. Survivors include his ex-wife, Judith, and their three daughters: Theresa (Gary) Spencer of Richland Center, Susan (Dennis) Kaderavek of Richland Center and Lisa (Kier) Klepzig of Newton, Georgia; six grandchildren, Derek Spencer, Danielle Spencer, Chelsea Kaderavek (David Breck), Jim (Kayla) Kaderavek, Graham Klepzig (Karen Ackiss) and Cassie Klepzig (Nick Ray); step granddaughter, Sarah Coy; two great grandchildren, Duke Spencer and Cullen Kaderavek and two step great granddaughters, Alex and Katie Coy. He is further survived by his life partner, Agnes Dearborn, and her children, Steve (Paula) Dearborn, Tom (Patty) Dearborn, Mike (Debbie) Dearborn, Bonnie (Don) Carey and Andrea SchneiderMaier (Brett Wetter); seven Grandchildren and eleven Great Grandchildren; and siblings, Ron “Bud” (Mary) Pearsall, Mary (Wayne) Randall, Kathy (Dave) Neitzel, Dan (Sharyl) Pearsall and Rita (Dayton) Bruha. Don was preceded in death by his Parents. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the Picha Funeral Home – 1600 Academy Street, Elroy.
