Dedicated to my friend Mason, a wrestling champ. It was 5:00 p.m., and a man in Texas knew he would have to be home soon. Near 7:00, the sky was starting to fade, and if you were in the desert, like him, you’d know that coyotes and other creatures might be

This is the story about a little girl I used to know. A sweet young woman, she is today, with the head of gold. Her name is Lily. Lily was going to be turning six, which overwhelmed her with excitement. Curiosity surged through her veins, yearning to witness the unveil of the crimson ribbon wrapped gift. It sat on mother’s pearl white coffee table, waiting. Confetti hovered and candlelight turned to foggy swirls. Finally, she got to open the gift, carefully untying the silk ribbon. Then, there I was. Laying down in a cramped, yet cozy, shoe box. My porcelain face brightened to the sight of a young girl, her expression, ecstatic. We would play varieties of games and talk for hours. Though, she did most the talking. As our friendship grew, so did she. Her mother didn’t come home. Time passed and days became years. She doesn’t play with me anymore. “I’m too old for dolls!” Lily exclaimed. Even so, I waited. I stayed perched on my nightstand, seeking the same face I knew when we first met. I won’t be able to age alongside her, so patience is all I have. Patience was evaporating. My glass frame was gathering dust. One day, when no one was home, I decided to stretch my legs. I stumbled like a toddler learning to walk. I was greeted by a teddy bear, named Bubbles, who introduced me to Miss Ragdoll. We played and had lots of fun! Finally, I remembered what it was like to be included. Bubbles got careless and tore some stuffing, but Miss Ragdoll fixed him up. He was as good as new! We had to scurry back to our places, because Lily was going to be home soon. That’s when I heard someone. It was Lily’s father. Lily’s dolls and old toys are taking up space. She doesn’t use them anymore. Do you know anyone who’d take them? He must mean us! I couldn’t believe my ears. They can’t just get rid of us! I had to tell Bubbles and Miss Ragdoll the bad news. Ragdoll packed her needles. Bubbles packed some tea cups, and I took a small quote Lily would often read to me. Though, it was only small writing on the back of a fortune cookie. We started to run towards the door, but were interrupted by a teen girl. It was Lily. She looked confused, as to why we were leaving. I handed her the quote. Lily’s salty tears stained her rosy cheeks as she read the bold fountain pen. “A relationship with no bend. That’s what makes a true friend.” It was writing in Lily’s mother’s best cursive. Oh, how she missed her mother. She knew she had to make things right. Once again, they played together. This brought joy to their faces and Lily’s face was brightened like on the day we met. That day, we learned that your oldest friends grow to be your most valuable. We stayed together through thick and thin. Lily remembered us and we knew that we’d always remember her.

Far away in a Brazilian Jungle lived a leopard named Sydney. Today her goal was to clean out the library. It was a big project, so she started right away. The first dusty book Sydney picked up was about stolen jewels and treasures. She was glad she found the book. She was so excited that she totally forgot about cleaning her library, and went off to read. A couple of pages through the book, she found the most beautiful jewel she had ever seen! It was one of a kind, sparkly, purple jewel! It had been missing for 3 centuries. Sydney exclaimed, “I’m going to find this jewel even if it’s the last thing I do!” In the book it said there was a map buried in her own backyard. She decided to call her best friend, a unicorn name Magic and her cousin Gypsi. They agreed to help. When Magic came, she brought her two daughters, Razzle and Dazzle, and when Gypsi came, she brought her husband, Fetch. Fetch was a dog so he loved to dig. He kept asking when they were going to start digging for the map. Finally, they started digging so Fetch would stop bothering them. It took them eight hours and they dug up Sydney’s whole yard but they finally found the old, ripped up map along with about a million worms and other bugs. The six of them all looked like mud monsters so one by one they took long showers. After all of their showers, they took a look at the map. They had to go through the deepest, darkest part of the jungle known as “The Haunted Layer.” This was the only part of the jungle that Sydney had never explored, and there was a reason. Legend has it that ten explorers walked in and never came out. Everyone was afraid when Sydney told them this, even Sydney was worried. Fetch said that Pugsley, his old roommate, wrote a book on legends so they called Pugsley and he said that this legend was probably fake. Everyone was glad and they all started to pack. Now they were definitely ready to go! They packed everything they needed. Fetch called Pugsley back to thank him for the advice and asked if he wanted to come on their adventure. Pugsley wanted to come too, so he started packing. When he made it to Sydney’s, they all jumped into Gypsi’s Jeep. At the entrance of the jungle, they checked one last time if they had everything, then went in. The first thing they saw in the jungle was a rotting log that they had to cross to get over a canyon. All of them freaked out because they couldn’t take the heavy Jeep across and they were planning on using it for shelter that night. So they each grabbed a bag and crossed one by one. Once the seven of them were across, they saw the most amazing thing to have in their situation. “Another Jeep!” Sydney shouted. It even had a full tank of gas! Sydney said that it must have been left behind from other travelers. The next day they went off in the Jeep. A few hours later, they came up to the cave that the jewel was in. They were all so excited! They went in. “Ooh, it’s so pretty,” exclaimed Sydney. They found the jewel! It was exactly how the book described it, BEAUTIFUL!!

out and about. So, he headed to his little cottage near a stream that headed out to the Gulf of Mexico. It was darker now, and then he heard something. This sound he had heard before and it sounded like growling. Once he knew that it was, he started running. They were coyotes! He had run away from these scoundrels before, and he always outran them. When he was about thirty feet away from them, for some reason they stopped. They ran off, but he kept walking. Then he passed little bugs and they ran the same way as the coyotes, which was weird. It was almost like they wanted to be bug stew! But he kept going so he could get home. Then, he understood. An asteroid was heading for Earth, and it was going to hit somewhere near him. He prepared for a blow. But it didn’t. Instead, a red-eyed, fierce and black bull landed. It headed right toward him when... A voice awakened him, “Honey, wake up!” You don’t want to miss your first day of wrestling do you?” “Okay,” said the boy. And then he walked down the steps and said, “That was a great dream!” When he got to wrestling class, he couldn’t focus on the practice match, but he kept thinking about the dream he’d had. He tried to figure this out, but once he was on the ground his only focus was to not get pinned. After practice he wasn’t sweating as much as he had thought he would be. His cheeks were not red at all. That was because at practice, he hardly moved one muscle. The night after his great dream, he couldn’t get to sleep. He tried to think of something to do, when it hit him. He would write down what he thought would happen in his dream. After writing for a while, he drifted off to sleep. And the rest of the dream began. The bull charged toward the man, but he wrestled the bull, trying to throw the bull to the ground. The bull kept trying to get up, but the man was keeping him down. When he was getting ready for the last take down, the bull threw him off, but it didn’t hurt the man. The man got right back up and started running at the bull. He threw the bull to the ground and knew that the bull would never be getting back up again. Wiping his shirt and clothes off, he said, “Well, I need to get home.”
