Stoughton Opera House is Jewel of the Community
For over a century, the Stoughton Opera House has stood tall as one of the largest second-story theaters in the Midwest. The Opera House is a beacon in the community, providing multi-generational entertainment and drawing visitors from across Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and Michigan. Originally called the City Hall Auditorium, The Stoughton Opera House opened on February 22, 1901 and served Stoughton until the 1950s, when it fell into a state of disrepair. In the 1980s, a group of citizens organized efforts to restore the Opera House back to its original beauty, using donations, many volunteer hours, and no public funds. With the majority of renovations complete, the Opera House celebrated with a Grand Reopening Celebration in February 2001 – its 100th birthday. It has since become an icon in southern Wisconsin and one of the premier music venues and entertainment spaces in the region. Each year, the Opera House hosts a wide variety of world-renowned performers playing everything from bluegrass, Americana, country and folk music to classical, jazz, and rock & roll as well as comedy, spoken word, and theater. The Stoughton Opera House offers something special for everyone. To experience the beauty and history of the Stoughton Opera House, come see a show or stop by for a tour!
