Slow heat

THE ADVANTAGES AND EFFICIENCIES OF THERMAL MASS. According to the relevant EC test standard, this type of stove must retain heat in the thermal mass for at least 4 hours after the fuel has been completely burned. Added to this, the surface temperature of the stove must not fall below 75% of the temperature recorded at the time the stove is turned off. The PYROLIS TM1 operates at efficiencies above 80%, which means that it is losing only about 20% of the energy provided by the fuel out of the chimney. The total energy value of the fuel (3kg of dry wood pellets) has been calculated at 14.4kWh, which means that the stove stores about 11.52kWh of energy in its thermal mass. This heat energy is transmitted slowly into the room over 10 hours, at roughly 1.1kWh.
