The long slog THE Easy Runner Sodbury Slog has proved to be a big hit again with 1,300 runners putting themselves through their paces this year. The route uses the same paths, fields, ditches and mudbaths since it's inception in 1990. This year there was
a spectator friendly finish in Chipping Sodbury High Street - but only once runners had conquered Boggy Bottom, the Sheep Dip and the Pig Trough. The event, organised by Bitton Road Runners raised £2500 for Chipping Sodbury Rotary.
More ups than downs Honours even for Old Sodbury for trampoliner against league leaders
Gold at the English Championships CHIPPING Sodbury student Holly Parker has enjoyed a golden few weeks with success at two major national trampolining events. Holly, who trains with Bristol based Axis Trampoline Club and represents the South West, won gold at the English Championships at the Skydome in Coventry, competing in the individual event for 17-18 year old girls. The South West team won silver over a weekend of
competition. Holly went on to take the gold in her class at the National Trampoline League Finals held at the Lee Valley Velodrome at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London. She is now National League 2 Champion. Studying A-Levels at Chipping Sodbury School 17 year old Holly still finds the time to train with her club three nights each week and clearly her dedication is paying dividends.

BACK to back fixtures against league leaders Westfield ended the year for Old Sodbury under 16s. The first encounter on Westfield’s undulating surface resulted in disappointment for the visitors. The hosts took an early lead but as the first period progressed, Old Sodbury gained a foothold and duly equalised. As the half drew to a close last seasons top marksman, Ross Womack, sprinted through to slot home past the keeper. Westfield’s response was immediate however and they went into the break a goal in front. Old Sodbury was forced to reduce to just eight fit players as several of the team were struck by injury early in the second period. The league leaders took full advantage of this and romped to a 6-1 victory. The fixture list provided Old Sodbury with an immediate opportunity to reverse the previous week’s outcome and they did so convincingly with their best performance of the season so far.
After a very bright from the home side it was Westfield who opened the scoring. Womack duly equalised and this time it was the hosts who were in control. Kieron Kay dominated the crucial midfield area and Dan Watson and Josh Timbrel proved to be water-tight at the centre of defence. Old Sodbury attacked in waves but Westfield are league leaders for good reason and there was a period just before half time when it looked like they would break through but Josh Pearce’s fine goalkeeping. Ethan Lloyd’s spectacular strike on the halfvolley enabled the home team to reach half time in front. In the second period Old Sodbury’s work ethic brought them chance after chance. Top scorer Ross Womack ran the opposing defenders ragged and completed his hat trick for a magnificent 4-1 home win. With the top two teams in the league now having been well beaten at the Badminton Road ground, Old Sodbury will be entering the new year confident of continuing their climb up the table.
